Microsoft registers Microsoft-Sony.com

UPDATE: Microsoft explains itself.

UPDATE: Move along, nothing to see here. According to a Tweet from Microsoft corporate communications VP Frank Shaw the listing is just an innocuous "defensive domain name hold".

ORIGINAL STORY: Microsoft has registered the domains Microsoft-Sony.com and Sony-Microsoft.com.

Both domains were registered this month. But why?

Perhaps a one console future is about to become a reality? Would you buy a XboxStation or a PlayBox?

Or maybe Microsoft has bought Sony, or Sony has bought Microsoft.

Or Nintendo has bought them both, and decided to merge them into one gargantuan company. One can only hope.

Some have speculated that Microsoft may be readying some kind of comparison marketing campaign along the lines of Apple's Mitchell and Webb-fuelled "Get a Mac" campaign from a few years ago.
