This week sees two noteworthy iOS titles getting big-screen ports. Culinary slice 'em up Fruit Ninja becomes Fruit Ninja Kinect, while Mobigame's Edge teeters onto PC and Mac.
Fruit Ninja Kinect is this week's Xbox Summer of Arcade title. It's Kinect exclusive, and sees the game's touch-screen fruit chopping transferred into full body arm-flailing.
Edge, a retro-styled platform puzzler, was first released for iPhone in 2008. Since then it's rarely been out of the headlines - not because of the game itself, but due to an ongoing and very public trademark squabble over the game's name. PC and Mac versions launch this week via Steam and the App Store, respectively.
Some other dates for your gaming diary: if you're yet to purchase a 3DS, Nintendo will sweeten the deal this Friday as its shock 3DS price-drop takes effect. Individual shops have been left to set their own prices, but expect the 3DS sale price to be cut by around a third to about Ł150.
Sony opens pre-orders for games in its Summer of Arcade rival PlayStation Network Play starting this Wednesday. Putting down your money early will earn you an extra PS3 theme on top of Play's main attraction - a morsel of free DLC. On offer - Street Fighter III, The Baconing, BloodRayne: Betrayal and Renegade Ops.
This Wednesday also sees the launch of Resistance 3's public beta for PlayStation Plus subscribers. Two maps and two modes are on offer, allowing a privileged few to level up their characters before the rest of the world.
This Week in Virtual Shops!
Fruit Ninja Kinect
- Developer: Halfbrick Studios
- Publisher: Microsoft Studios
- Formats: Xbox 360
What is it? Downloadable Kinect Arcade title where you slice open unsuspecting fruit with your bare hands. Rather like that samurai sword game in Wii Sports Resort, or indeed Fruit Ninja on iPhone. It costs 800 Points.
- Hysteria Project 2 (PS3)
- Warhammer 40K: Kill Team (PS3)
- Edge (PC, Mac)
- New Star Soccer 5 (PC, Mac)
- Avenging Spirit (3DS Virtual Console)
Each week one of the team will step up to predict the UK all-formats chart. The following predicts the outcome for the week beginning Friday 12th August (to be reported on Monday 15th August).
Tom Phillips, Website Administrator, Eurogamer.net
"Who would bet against Zumba Fitness' current chart rampage continuing? Let me know and I'd happily take that wager. Hopefully Nintendo 3DS software sales will improve post-price drop, although I can't see any threatening the top five. With that in mind, and nothing out at retail again this week, I predict the charts will stay fairly static."
- Zumba Fitness: Join the Party
- Dirt 3
- Just Dance 2: Extra Songs
- Cars 2
- Lego Pirates of the Caribbean
Last week, Eurogamer's News Editor Wesley Yin-Poole attempted to peer through the fog of war. How well did he do?
