Limbo PSN, Steam release dates

Developer promises a "little extra secret".

Playdead Games has announced the release dates for the PlayStation Network and Steam versions of stunning downloadable game Limbo.

Limbo launches on PSN on 19th July in the US, and 20th July in Europe.

It goes live on Steam worldwide on 2nd August.

"It has been one year since Limbo originally launched on Xbox Live Arcade," Playdead said in a statement issued to Eurogamer.

"So we are happy, on the mark of Limbo's birthday, to bring the game to PC through Steam and to PlayStation 3 through PSN."

Playdead suggested PS3 and PC gamers may be in for a surprise if they buy the game.

"So, with less than four weeks to wait to get Limbo on PSN and Steam, we hope everyone will enjoy the game and the little extra secret we have in store for you..."

Meanwhile, the Limbo soundtrack launches on iTunes from today (Monday, 11th July).

Been hoping this would come out on PS3 for ages now, so i'm definately getting this. I just hope that its not overpriced like some games are on PSN (Plants vs Zombies at £11.99, for example).

I am intrigued by that 'little secret' though. Exclusive content, perhaps? Can't wait!

It's a beautifully stark game. And now we can all play it. Go us!

And with the BF3 trailer overkill. I think most of us here already know if we are going to buy it or not. Less is more etc.

Extra content of some kind? It better not be anything more than themes or something, I'll get insanely jealous if it's extra chapters or something. But either way, it's good that one of the more quality titles from XBLA is being given the attention it deserves.

Always a kick in the nuts for the "early adopters" when they add specials to later releases.

I do hope they patch in something nice for all those 360 folks... even though MS does not like doing that sorta thing... it would be a nice gesture.

Now my 360 has moved room I would rather have this on my PS3... but I am loathe to pay for it again even when it IS that good. I will probably break down when it gets a PSN+ deal at some future point.

Negged for suggesting that those who believe in your product and buy it early to ensure success are the ones that get left out when there are some "free extras"?!?!?

    Or

Negged for not wanting to REALLY show support by buying it twice? :)

Free hats for the Steam version, and leaked credit card info for the PSN version.

    /Too soon?

Okay Nuanimal, that did make me grin :)

Very much looking forward to this. I wonder if there will be price parity between Steam and PSN?

You are not an 'early adopter'. You bought a product and you own it. Did you think the developers were just sitting with their thumbs up their arses between then and now? Do you take the theatrical DVD version of Lord of the Rings back to HMV complaining they've just released the Blu Ray Directors Cut?

Why do some gamers feel entitled this way? It's fucking annoying.

Every once in a while I'll let a non-gamer play Limbo telling them that it's a 2D game and they will get scared when playing the game. They don't really believe me and then try it. I enjoy watching them playing the game, because for me, that's a way I can experience the game all over again with partly fresh eyes. After a while the non-gamer playing says I'm right and that he is scared hahaha. But by then he is so hooked already, that he wants to finish the game. Brilliant! It's also an interesting test to get 'casual/non-gamers' to play excellent arty games and see what it means/does to them. Of course I made the room dark and turned up the volume so that they truly immerse in the experience. Limbo is so fucking good. One of my most enjoyed games of the last year.

"Do you think Limbo on PSN will be very cheap, since they got the cash from M$ not to release it rightaway anywhere else?"
    -Not a chance?
