Rockstar readies return to the West.

New downloadable content is coming for last year's Western epic Red Dead Redemption, Rockstar has announced.

A message on the official Rockstar Games' Twitter account last night told fans to "look for a release date and details in the coming weeks".

The news comes as surprise - all signs pointed to last year's Undead Nightmare story add-on being Rockstar's farewell to the award-winning title.

That DLC brought gamers an alternative storyline in which the game's world was invaded by a mysterious zombie plague. It followed three previous expansions for the game's multiplayer modes.

A delayed launch of various Red Dead Redemption pre-order items followed earlier this year.

Since then Rockstar has focused squarely on recent release L.A. Noire, supplementing the period crime drama with its own selection of DLC case add-ons. The final helping, Reefer Madness, launches 12th July.

L.A. Noire's story-centric gameplay lacked any sort of multiplayer. Will new Red Dead Redemption DLC bolster its online offerings? Or will gamers be treated to a further few hours in the company of John Marston and his Wild West world?

Only halfway through original campaign. Was late to the party, although a brilliant game all round. Pre-ordered GTAIV and only finished yesterday so expecting to complete RD around 2013.

Hmmm, now would be a perfect time to announce a PC version which would include all the console DLC released so far. If we're getting L.A. Noire then why not Red Dead Redemption too? Go on, Rockstar, you know you want to really.

MrTeatime - you didnt finish Undead Nightmare because it wasn't realistic? Its about a ZOMIBE INVASION and is called UNDEAD NIGHTMARE, of course its going to be unrealistic!! Shouldn't you have seen it coming? Agree with you on the multiplayer though, once the novelty of riding around with your mates wears off, it didnt really have anything going for it.

Still, hopefully this will be a proper single player story-expanding piece of DLC. I'm sure I still have my copy of RDR somewhere.....

i liked the trophy 'bearly legal': kill and skin 18 bears.

i got it when i was stationed next to an old log cabin next to the river for ages during the night. looking for badgers to kill so i could finish a side mission. kept getting jumped by bears... very atmospheric game. graphics are beautiful.

Another reasonably lengthy piece of single player content with a couple of new multiplayer modes would be lovely Rockstar, so basically what the Undead Nightmare pack was. I enjoy the EG Friday night games of the multiplayer which is still pretty lively.

Best case scenario would be some prequel stuff with John Marston during his time in Dutch's posse, even more excuse to behave like an evil arsehole to keep in character!

I will hope and pray this is a single player expansion. I loved the main game, my personal favourite Rockstar title. I think the sparse, open plain setting dotted with towns just suits the RAGE engine a lot more than crowded cities, as in LA Noire and GTA. That aside, it has a lovely atmospheric 'feel' about it that just made simple things like whistling for your horse and riding off into the desert such a pleasure. It's essentially the childhood cowboy fantasy made flesh (kinda).

Really enjoyed the Undead Nightmare too, as the restricted ammo and weapon distribution changed the dynamic of the combat to a significant degree.

I'd like a bit of a prequel, to cover how John ended up in Dutch's gang, and maybe some of their exploits that gave them their reputation.

That, my friends, is why I just smile and shake my head every time another self-proclaimed master race PC gamer goes on about how their elite rig makes all consoles look like Atari machines. I must be the only person in the world to have played the undead nightmare missions first.
The missions in the main game are a bunch of glitchy bollocks

I am fedup of being told MISSION FAILED without knowing why or how, or even what mission i was doing in the first place.

The game engine in rockstar games is usually impressive, the mission structure is always wank

Undead Nightmare was far better than I had expected, and was so genuinely spooky that it was a relief to finish it and return to the main game where everything was bustling and normal again.

Come on Rockstar, how about some fan service and enable the cars for us to drive? Or switch the trains on in multiplayer so we can push each other in front of them?

Next to San Andreas this is probably Rockstar's best, this can only be good news whether it's MP or solo but I think it's clear we want extra solo campaign DLC just a little bit more (but I'll be pleased either way !).

your talking bow locks. i had the 360 version then when my 360 RROD i bought a PS3 bundled with RDR and within a matter of hours i was playing again. As far as I can tell the game looked and played no different to the 360 version.

Without trying to say to much the end game leaves an interesting position to further the story of a certain character.
A few could come back as well if it is single player game. Hopefully because Liars dice is a nice little mini game but hopefully it will be something a little more substantial.

Girlfriend bought me Undead Nightmare about 2 months ago but I hadn't played Red Dead Redemption at that point.

So before playing Undead Nightmare, I bought the original Red Dead Redemption on Xbox Live. Absolutely loved it!! Never been a fan of Western movies so though I wouldn't be too fussed on this game, but I played through single player in a couple of weeks.

Started Undead Nightmare about 2 weeks ago and finished it there on Saturday, must say wasn't all that fussed on Undead Nightmare.

I've very interested to see what the new DLC will be...
