Sony has announced a bevy of freebies for PlayStation Home users as part of its Welcome Back programme following the recent PSN downtime.

Between 30th June and 28th July, it's offering free access to a new content pack that's apparently worth €85/£65. Here's what's included:

  • Anime Style Apartment
  • Anime themed clothing and furniture sets
  • Paris Modern Office furniture set
  • nDreams Big Bash party bundle
  • nDreams Fantasy Fashion and Funkster costumes
  • Aurora OrbRunner Booster Bundle
  • A cuddly Stitchkins Bunny Toy from Lockwood
  • A Midway Green ticket (50 plays)
  • Cardboard Cartel Furniture from Codeglue
  • Fortune Cookie active item
  • A selection of Tops, Shirts, Skirts, High-top trainers and glasses
  • Go Fish – a new, free-to-play fishing game based in the Shopping Centre

With the exception of Go Fish, all of the above will be available in Home Square, and you'll need to be 16 or older to download them.

The pack will then launch as paid content from the 28th July.

Head on over to the PlayStation Blog for more details on the individual items and a few pics.

Since I'm never ever going to use Home, can you please just credit my PSN wallet with £65 Sony?

    /overly optimistic optimism

Thanks for the freebies Sony, but not even freebies will tempt me back to that place.
  • riceNpea #3 11 months ago

thanks but no thanks. it's a nice idea but ultimately it's a hollow experience.
  • RodHull #4 11 months ago

Blimey. £65 worth of freebies per Home user? That's going to set Sony back just over £800!

It's not like the hack really inconvenienced any if you! It's an online store and online gaming for god sake! People act as if Sony just took a big shit in their mouth. It's games! They are great but surely there is something else you guys could do instead!

As a regular Home user this sounds pretty good. I like the sound of the anime stuff.

I actually went into the E3 booth in Home and it was pretty impressive, or so I thought. There were game trailers (with a free gift for each- loving the T-Rex pet from Ratchet and Clank), an opportunity to look at a 3D model of the Vita that you could rotate and get a good look at, a playable arcade game (not sure why but it was fun) and overall a general E3 atmosphere.

Does Home add much to the PS3? Probably not. But I find it an oddly compelling experience to wander around these places. I think they serve as pretty nice adverts for the games themselves: I went into the Fat Princess area and learnt all about the different classes, and got a throne furniture for my trouble by playing a minigame. I've also tried out a few of the other minigames like Sodium: not perfect by any stretch but still pretty nice for a free add-on. And I like the free rewards like hats and clothes (and a little PS Vita accessory to carry around with you!)

I mean, as a social experience it's limited right now simply because most people don't have a keyboard to hand. And the minigames aren't that deep or meaningful. And I suppose there's not much point to it all: arguably, you could put all the game info onto a bulleted list and have trailers streamed from the PS Store. But it's an interesting experience that could really grow to be something impressive if given the chance.

I will try the fishing game but isn't Go Fish a pairs game?
  • alcides #21 11 months ago

I could live without being remembered this exists every now and then. Good for them if they are making money off it.

Went on home once, very good and all but not for me. Anyway I'd quite like to see the EU store be on par with the US store, and put an end to the EU being shafted by Sony.
  • Lucodeath #23 11 months ago

A years xbox gold membership an £25 quid to spend then please Mr an Mrs Sony
  • Murton #24 11 months ago

As an occasional home user I'll likely take a look, but from the vague description given it looks like this pales in comparison to the huge pile of stuff US users have been given. That mansion that the US have got looks sweet and some of the clothes aren't bad either.

Our welcome back is fine if you're an anime fan, but if not there's just not much there, would have preferred some sort of Home credit so that I could kit my avatar out the way I would like to without having to pay actual money to do so.
  • KrazyFace #25 11 months ago

That would have been a better idea Murton, but I guess us EU beggars can't be choosers. From the description it does seem rather wimpy in comparison to the NA's package, but really, what can you do?

I've been getting more and more into Home in the last few months and it's become clear to me where the attraction is - friends. I guess all these people that can't see the point either have no friends or can't understand the fundamentals of online social networks. I think myspace and Facebook are rather drab so I don't use them, but I wouldn't go out of my way to put in a comment someplace just to let that opinion be known. Still, if complaining makes you happy...

    @Mister-Wario

It's mid-way through 2011. Home had a chance over the past 3 YEARS.

From my PS3 XMB, there's no reason at all to select that 'Home icon' - especially due to the pain involved in downloading/installing almost ANYTHING on the PS3.

Good luck to those who'll enjoy this.
  • Mister-Wario #27 11 months ago

Ryze: what pain? You press "download" on the respective page and let it run. You can even let it run in the background while you look around at other stuff. Then you go to the XMB, choose the bubble and install it. Sure, it takes a while, but other than that how is it painful?

And regarding Home: has something like this been done before on a console?
  • cheeky_BILLY #28 11 months ago

This is a decent offer and Home is an excellent concept but I just don't play it myself.
  • BuddyChrist #29 11 months ago

Keep your bullshit Malaysian peanut currency.
  • Murton #30 11 months ago

Home just needs a couple of small additions and it would be perfect.

Interactive items such as virtual TVs, stereos, games consoles and laptops to access our XMB media and browser, the functionality exists within Home already to make these things possible, it just needs to be implemented

Meeting areas for big games to find players/make friends. Something like a recreation of Vasari's Palace as a Killzone meeting area, combined with the game launcher this will make community events a doddle to organise, simply meet at the Palace at 7pm.

Fix the club system and then release fankits so that clubs can build clubhouses dedicated to their theme. For example a Killzone clan could built a Clan HQ "clubhouse" that looks like a Helghast outpost and contains links to the clan website, stats boards etc

Home is a great example of stage 1 thinking, they've got this great idea that could go really far and revolutionise modern gaming, but they've only taken it so far and no further. It's been nearly 3 years now, I think it's time for Home to evolve rather than simply grow.
  • KrazyFace #31 11 months ago

That's exactly what they should be doing with Home Murton, the NA servers have a meeting area for developers to do a Q&A with the general public, which is great, but I've never seen it in action. The EU seems to be about a year behind NA in terms of implementing better, and more user friendly ideas. The access to the HDD through Home is the problem, it allows us to broadcast our stored content. If the EU had a more unified set of laws we'd be closer to that ideal Home. And BTW whoever negged you, shame on you! SHAME ON YOU!!!
