So the non-console PC gfx engine is finally being rolled out at last? ;)
  • kirankara #2 11 months ago

love to see what this looks like after this is installed, any pc users fancy doing honours for us? I dont have gaming pc , so will not get to see the results otherwise
  • bdc #3 11 months ago

Tried it, it looks better than the original Crysis now.
Better late than never, but hopefully this will be present at Crysis 3's launch.
  • dsmx #4 11 months ago

It should look better than crysis, however crysis is still technically a better game, it's far harder rendering a forest full of trees then a street of buildings and cars.
  • darkphoenix #5 11 months ago

    Half a street, you mean.
Or some sections of a train station.
Or a sample of Times Square.....

Not even the biggest, bestest patch will elevate C2 to the level of Crysis ( technically ).
The original renders massive landscapes, the sequel is a corridor shooter.

Yum, those realtime reflections looks brilliant. Shame I've got to re-download Crysis 2 before I can play though!
  • ianegg #8 11 months ago

    Realistic Shadows with Variable Penumbra
    WANT.

Does any other game do variable penumbras? "slighly lighter outline" shadows have always bugged me - more than hard edged ones.

Dx9 or Dx11,the gameplay is still the same.
  • GooseUK #10 11 months ago

yes! Back to the feeling that my pc wont run crysis, which was a shock for me when it absolutely destroyed crysis 2
  • Neil__ #11 11 months ago

    Polishing a turd.
  • Cjail #12 11 months ago

Crysis 2 as it should have been 3 months ago!

Now only 2/3 of Crysis 2 owners are left screwed...I am sure that despite this now Crytek probably is still very proud or what have done!
  • ajaxpliskin #13 11 months ago

    They're just.... graphics.

Except for shadows and reflections, that makes for great gameplay.

Now they should also give as a major upgrade
pack for the A.I routines which are really, really
disappointing and affect more than anything else
    the quality of the gameplay.
We have quad core CPUs and they remain unused.
    What a pitty.
  • Badassbab #15 11 months ago

Well....time for a new PC then. Too sluggish at 1080p and my rig is pretty decent. i7 950, ATI 6850, 12GBs RAM.

Still can't skip some cut scenes.

I still miss the qucksave option to experiment with different situations. That's what made Crysis so much fun... Oh well, at least now I can restart an entire section with pretty graphics.
  • StooMonster #17 11 months ago

    Brilliant!

Off to download, and finally going to play Crysis 2.

Edit: patch 1.9 downloads on Steam, which is good news; now to get the graphics-n-stuff.

    @MMMMMM7

    You're not alone.

We Cell users have six SPUs and they remain unused.

All the decent price online retailers are showing delays, think there has been a rush on copies.

My order is in and patches are downloading ready.

Looking forward to playing it how it should be played.
  • GooseUK #20 11 months ago

Christ, the 'Semper fi or die' level is slaying my PC with Ultra water and tessellation on.... Time for a core i7 I think, about time something forced me to shell out for one...

Crytek release a Crysis 2 that works well on most systems: BOO HISS NOT LEET HARDCORE ENOUGH

Crytek patch the game with envelope-pushing graphics: BOO HISS MY COMPUTER BLEW UP I CAN'T RUN THIS ON MAX SETTINGS WAA WAA
  • mr2ange #22 11 months ago

Well done to them for releasing this, I dont have a pc that can run this, but still good on them for giving such an upgrade for free.

I bet it looks shit-hot with everything up on a high end machine.

  • caligari #23 11 months ago

I'm looking forward to the Digital Foundry comparison.

It may be the 'placebo effect' talking - but the graphics really do look rather luscious now, don't they?

I was halfway through the game before installing the patch - now I actually feel as though I'm playing a PC GAME, rather than a high-end console game.

...it's still no Crysis 1 - but at least it now looks as GOOD as Crysis 1.
  • EVERYGAMER #24 11 months ago

Great news my copy crysis 2 always used to crash after you exited the game and some times when transitioning to a new section of the level...not a big deal as you would have already finished playing when this happened so not interferring with gameplay but still a niggle that I wanted to fix.
After deciding to have a little blast on it this evening the patch downloaded and now it doesn't crash anymore. So for anyone who has been experiencing crashes even once they had downloaded the latest drivers etc hopefully you need worry no more :)
  • up_the_ante #25 11 months ago

2.3GB for a patch/update must be some kind of new record?
Crysis 2 is only £12.99 now on Play. Good time to pick it up
  • TheGuvernor #26 11 months ago

I genuinely don't understand the hate for Crysis 2.
(With the exception of DX11 & lack of MOD support)
My two + year old rig could run it maxed out flawlessly & I thought the game was absolutely stunning.
And the game play was amazing too - Crytek have always offered open environments that encouraged diff tactics - Crysis 2 really wasn't that different essentially.
And yes, I've played the originals many times.
  • subedii #27 11 months ago

    @TheGuvernor:

    Not hate as such.

I've already had a rant on this so I'm not going to repeat it all (It's here if you really care: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2011-0... ).

But basically, show me where in Crysis 2 there's a level that's a follow on from the amazing "Assault" level in Crysis, and then we'll talk about how things haven't changed.

  • Buran #28 11 months ago

@TheGuvernor: Due the game has low-to-none relation with Crysis & Warhead in terms of story, characters and gameplay design in his levels.
  • Slikz #29 11 months ago

    I can only manage 20fps on ultra settings :( @ 1920x1080

Any idea if/when they'll be releasing a patch to improve the DX9 features for consoles?
  • wizbob #31 11 months ago

People don't seem to remember the HDR patch for Far Cry - it gave the game a second wind. I'm going to be very pleased if it's anything near that impressive.
  • sabbede #32 11 months ago

Looks fantastic. Exactly like the game was supposed to look when it launched.

I can confirm this looks amazing my play order didn't take too long (£12.99).

Runs amazingly smooth with all settings on ultra at 1080p, might get fraps reading my actual FPS figures.
