10 co-op maps confirmed for Battlefield 3

Two players supported.

Battlefield 3's co-op campaign will feature support for two players over 10 different maps, developer DICE has confirmed via PSM3 magazine.

Sure, it's a slim morsel of news, but the first real details the studio has let slip about the feature.

Eurogamer's Martin Robinson took a close look at the keenly-anticipated shooter's standard multiplayer mode in his Battlefield 3 hands-on preview earlier this week.

"It strikes a middle ground that's likely to offend as many as it appeases," he wrote, "stopping a little short of Battlefield 2's nuance, while offering a more intricate game than that seen on the hyper-caffeinated killing fields of Modern Warfare."

The game marches forth to retail on 28th October.

One assumes these will work the same as onslaught mode, be sections of general maps you can play in coop.

Nice to see they're not making us pay for it again like they did with Onslaught.

While every piece of BF3 news is filled with awesome, this could have been slightly more awesome had there been support for more than 2 players.

That Tank Battle with 6 mates? Please?

    Co-op, yes - but is it split-screen?

Well coop has already been confirmed for four player coop.

The fact that it says two, which I recon, is the minimum number required to actually play coop in the first place.

Also iv not heard anything about it being split screen.
  • rudedudejude #8 11 months ago

It won't be split screen, no chance.

    Sounds more like COD's Spec-Ops than a co-op campaign...

4 players would have made a good training ground for new players. And if each player was forced to use all 4 classes in 4 player coop.Would have been good to spread the word of actually helping each other out as a squad.

More intricate than MW? I'm pretty sure almost every game is more intricate than pushing the left stick forward, shoot, throw grenade, repeat.

Just give us a theatre mode and the package is complete.

I'll be very disappointed if there isn't one.

Don't care about this. All that matters is 64 player conquest on PC, staying as close to the BF2 gameplay as possible.

Will never play single player or co-op.

    Campaign + 10 maps = syntax error.
If it's a campaign you usually talk about value in terms of hours, not how many maps there are. Also you call them levels, not maps.

Wonder if you can read into this far enough to suggest that there will be 10 multiplayer maps.
  • menschenfracht #18 11 months ago

I wonder if EA accounts would help with cross-platform coop?

Only 2 players? Surely BF thrives on multiple people working together?

Would it be too hard, when writing about games, for Eurogamer to clarify if a game has Local campaign co-op or Live campaign co-op? or local multiplayer and Live multiplayer?

Most times, we read a 3 page review of a game and there is no way to know if a game has local multiplayer campaign /split-screen multiplayer?

Believe or not, many people find these options important assests when purchasing a game.

I don't even expect a full article on it. Just a little speadsheet in the Related content box, with small check boxes: Live campaign multiplayer (check) Local campaign co-op (check) Live competitive multi (check) Local competitive multi (check),...

    @ronuds

Indeed it does. Although many people would rather die than admit it. Even if it was called Call of Battlefield co-ops.
I'm fine with it though. Spec Ops is the best thing about MW2
