    I'm still a little unclear on how "free" these games are.
    If bought with a PS+ sub, can I only play them WHILST I have a PS+ sub? Or will they remain free forever.
    I suspect that they will be locked after the sub expires, but I imagine other people may be asking the same question.

    If it's a discount, you keep it regardless of subscription. If it's free, a subscription is required. No more complicated than that.
  • X201 #5 11 months ago

    @javvyman

    Anything that is 100% free will mean that you need to have a sub in order to play them.

    Anything that is just discounted (i.e you paid for it - even if it was at a massive discount) is yours to keep and play forever.

    These "free" PS+ titles and DLC last as long as your subscription.

    Anything you buy will remain part of you collection, so you would still be able to play Braid after the subscription ends.
  • lucky_jim #7 11 months ago

    This again? Right, free stuff (like Burnout) can only be played while you have a PS+ account. Discounted stuff (like Braid) is yours to keep even after the account expires, at no extra cost.

    So the half-a-dozen people worldwide who are yet to play Braid should snap this up, it's a steal at two quid.

    @javvyman:
    It's to my understanding that Downloadable Titles (including PSX and Minis) remain free and playable until your PS+ subscription expires.

    With Additional DLC on the other hand that content remains playable and is yours to keep regardless to when your subscription expires - this is further suggested from the reply to comment #25 on the EU Playstation Blog Entry explaining why the US PS+ features both MAG DLC whereas here only has 1.

    "Hi, the US are doing it slightly different to us at the min. they get both the packs but access to the add-ons they give expires with your membership. However, in Europe, currently you get to keep and add-ons you download forever and so the compromise is that you only get Interdiction this time. Thanks"

    Also content you buy with the PS+ discount as well as the free themes and avatars are yours to keep forever.

    Happy gaming,
    Boogalicious

    NO

    the socom and mag stuff are free forever, DLC never expires even if it was free as there is no DRM on it.
  • Zombie-Hamster #10 11 months ago

    Regarding the content, if you've not got Braid already it's a massive bargain at £2! I'd wholeheartedly recommend it :-)
  • menage #11 11 months ago

    Meh, I knew the rest of the Plus offers wouldn't be much, seeing as anyone can dl it now.

    @javvyman

    Stuff that's "free" is free to play as long as you maintain your sub, various people who haven't thought it through will claim that this makes it a rental rather than actually being free because if your sub lapses then you lose that free stuff, but what their faulty logic doesn't take into account though is that if you continue your sub then you'll keep the free stuff you already have and gain more stuff. As such even a three month sub becomes worth keeping as you acquire more and more free titles.

    Anything that is discounted or classed as an add-on however is yours to keep, forever, regardless of subscription status, which made the Failout 3 DLC last year an absolute steal as buying the add-ons seperately would have cost just 4 pence less than a one year sub, with the one year sub giving you 12 month's access to a load of great content plus a load of free expansions to keep forever.

    These little mid-month extras are very welcome, will be grabbing both map packs and will finally grab Braid which I've been waiting for a price drop on for a while now, cheers SCEE dudes.

    Conversely I thought Braid was the worst type of up it's own arse wankery and a rubbish puzzle platformer to boot. But that's just my opinion.
  • repeater #14 11 months ago

    I was thinking of trying out the MAG trial anyway, wonder if the map pack works with that? (I've heard the only limitation on the trial compared to the retail game is that there is a level cap at level 8, that's why I'm asking).
  • FarFromSane #15 11 months ago

    bugger i just bought MAG Interdiction map pack last week
  • Lunastra78 #16 11 months ago

    I've been waiting long for that Braid discount.

    Yes I'm a greedy bastard...
  • Phily50 #17 11 months ago

    @wizlon

    We can't all be right all of the time, can we?

    We forgive your ignorance.
  • kingcrowbar #18 11 months ago

    I'm glad I held off getting the MAG DLC when it was on PS+ sale a few months ago. It seems to be a recurring theme though with stuff getting PS+ discounts first and then released free a few months later.

    It is nice to see that SCEE chose to release it DRM free compared to the US store, so at least everyone can take advantage of it even when their PS+ runs out.

    Can another 10 people please answer the same question :)

    Anyway sounds like these deals suck s bit, likely as every a##hole currently has access to PS+
  • 32768Colours #22 11 months ago

    So if you have a PS+ account, do you get to get to keep games that were free from say, 6 months back? So for example, if I signed up to PS+ this month, I'd be able to keep the free copy of Burnout Paradise until the sub runs out?

    Or - after downloading them - are the free games then only available to play for free during the course of the month they're on offer?
  • Murton #23 11 months ago

    @colours - you have to claim the stuff while it's there and it's yours to access whenever you please as long as your sub is active. For example everyone has plus this month, they can't go back and get stuff from March because it's not available anymore. But if you claimed your freebies in March and let the sub lapse and thus lost access to them in April before the outage, you'd regain access to everything that still on your HDD this month as you have been given plus access again.

    Additionally any free content claimed goes into your downloaded items list same as paid content so you can go back and get it at a later date as long as your sub is still active.

    Hope that helps

    Huuuge discount on Braid. Nearly bought it the other day, too. Very happy with that! :)
  • Kaminari #25 11 months ago

    There is no such thing as free games on PSN. There is free, time-limited rental.
  • HiddenAway #26 11 months ago

    @Kaminari

    Unless of course you downloaded the Welcome Back games ;)

  • Jolly_Armadillo #28 11 months ago

    YES YES YES! interdiction final two trophies here I come!! Should be more than enough players to get games in!!

    Bought this map pack earlier on a previous discount on ps plus (not free) but I'm not gutted at all, just happy I should be able to play more on these maps!! :D
  • kingcrowbar #29 11 months ago

    The are 2 downloads for the MAG DLC, presumably they differ with regards to which Blu Ray you have hence the codes ending 558 and 818.

    The problem is I have the downloaded version of MAG, so which “disc” do I have?
  • 32768Colours #30 11 months ago

    @Murton

    Thanks! I must say that does make PS+ a rather attractive proposition actually. I'm a bit gutted I didn't look look into to the specifics of it sooner. Probably missed some good stuff I imagine :)
  • Ashcroft #31 11 months ago

    The free month of + taught me something. I had + before, and got Syphon Filter for PS1 for free. Obviously I couldn't use it when + ran out, but I didn't delete it. But, I still can't play it, even though I have + again. You don't get the free stuff back, even if you don't delete it, the expiry date is coded into the download, and will only change if your expiry date does. But once it runs out, that appears to be it.
  • Dreadaxe #32 11 months ago

    @Ashcroft

    Have you tried to re-download it from your download list in the store?

    Does anyone know which version of the MAG DLC the psn version can use?
  • Acrid #33 11 months ago

    ohh, getting Braid then, thank you very much
