Ms. Splosion Man release date announced

Twisted Pixel returns next month.

Ms. Splosion Man blasts onto Xbox Live Arcade on 13th July, developer Twisted Pixel has announced.

The sequel to hit 2009 platformer Splosion Man features 50 new single player levels, a 50 level multiplayer campaign, revamped network support and new gameplay mechanics.

"We are incredibly proud of Ms. Splosion Man and feel like it is our best game to date. We are very excited to launch it this summer on XBLA," commented CEO Mike Wilford.

Its predecessor won a solid 7/10 upon release, with Dan Whitehead judging it “a game that nudges greatness but never quite embraces it” in his Splosion Man review.

Arcade's hotting up. What with this and SoA on the horizon and Trenched today and... oh wait.

Splosion Man is boring as hell. It's fun for ten or so levels but then it's just a bloody boring mess, always doing the same things in the same environments. I played the beta of Ms. Splosion Man and it doesn't seem to change the formula. It's just more of the same boring stuff. Considering how great The Maw was I find it hard to believe that they actually think Ms Splosion Man is their best game yet. I think they only went downhill. The Maw was great, Splosion Man was ok, Comic Jumper was bad, Ms. Splosion Man is not good, The Gunstringer is an on rails (yeah, pretend that it isn't because you can run from the left to the right while being on the rail, doesn't change anything) Kinect shooter that nobody would care about if it had gamepad controls. The Maw showed so much potential for characters and even storytelling, they have been a huge disappointment ever since. They try so hard to include humour in their games it hurts.

They should have made a game called Splashing Woman.

Looking forward to getting it. Twisted Pixel games are getting funnier with each release, although I preferred the gameplay of Splosion Man to Comic Jumper. This should be a winner.

Well, I really enjoyed the first Splosion Man, and I would recommend it (and the sequel?) to any platformer fan. That said, I found the multiplayer incredibly frustrating. It requires very precise co-ordination.

Multiplayer was the best thing about the last one, cant wait to play 50 levels of that on the new one!

Oh yeah, I got a beta version of that but I forgot to play it. Should perhaps check in on it before long.

@Subdominator - How does 'on rails' equal 'bad game'?

Can't believe this isn't Summer Of Arcade.

Would you consider Panzer Dragoon, Fantasy Zone and Space Harrier terrible on-rails games too? Can't say I agree with their choice to develop a kinect only game, but I'm not going to simply write off anything developed for the platform.

Seeing them go back to something like the Maw would be great.. but 'Splosion man is great too and it's the game that really made them big, so what do you expect? Comic Jumper was a disappointment but hopefully they at least learned something from that.

Ok, two things: I don't dislike the concept of rail shooters. It can be fun, just like Rez or Child of Eden or Panzer Dragoon Orta or House of the Dead 2. There's two things that are good about a rail shooter: 1) It can offer amazing graphics because the developers know all the time what the player can see. 2) It can concentrate on the experience itself, taking away the stuff that makes a game feel clunky sometimes. The Gunstringer is different. It uses a rail because no one has come up with a way to use Kinect to actually control player movements (Kinect needs at least a navigation controller addon because no matter how much you like the "you are the controller", there is no working substitute for your legs with Kinect and holding a gamepad while playing with Kinect - like Ryse will use - just feels strange). It does not make the controls any less annoying or unresponsive. And the graphics are bad. It's an on rails game with none of the advantages an on rails game normally has. Yes, it's a set piece and it's supposed to look like one. Doesn't mean it has to be a bad looking set piece.

I hated Splosion Man, can see why some people like it but I thought it repeated some of it's jumping sequences too much and I didn't like the weight and inertia of the character.

I loved Splosion man, though it was desperately crying out for some more varied locations. Looks like Ms Splosion Man takes the game out of the science labs though, so I can't wait!

Don't look to the screen for 'Splosion Man, he's in MY heart!

Oh and the multiplayer was FANTASTIC exactly because it required extreme co-ordination :)
