F: NV DLC Old World Blues release date

New title update to improve stability.

The third downloadable add-on for open world role-playing game Fallout: New Vegas launches on Tuesday 19th July, Bethesda has announced.

Old World Blues releases on PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on that day. Presumably on PS3 in Europe it launches on Wednesday 20th July alongside the regular EU PS Store update.

Before launch a new title update for New Vegas will add support for the DLC as well as improve performance and stability in "major areas".

Old World Blues follows previous DLC Dead Money and Honest Hearts. In it the Courier becomes a lab rat in a science experiment and discovers how some of the Mojave's mutated creatures came to exist.

A fourth add-on, called Lonesome Road, is also in the works.

Each New Vegas add-on costs 800 Microsoft Points or £7.49/€9.99.

Still need to finish vanilla NV. Judging by the reviews of the last 2 DLC's though, this will probably follow suit.

Increased stability you say? This may be the closest Bethesda ever come to admitting that their engine has a problem. Here's hoping that it's really fixed as Fallout 3's patches claimed to fix many issues that are still live, such as the GOAT and Haircut bugs on PS3. Might finally be able to finish this if the fix is real.

I hope this update means I'll finally be able to finish that Fucking ED-E mission. Though I hoped for the exact same thing with all the previous updates.

I just want to play FNV for longer than 90 minutes before it either freezes or crashes completely. I've had this game from launch, and can put up with the bizarre programming decisions, but I can put up with or even finish the game because IT IS STILL a buggy mess.

Although I've recently been playing Obsidian's 'Dungeon Siege 3', it's much more stable having only crashed 7 times. Hired a new programmer perhaps?

New Vegas' DLC just hasn't been up to the standard set by Fallout 3 for me.

Nice to see they prioritised fixing those major stability and performance issues then....

Would like to see a list of the fixes to see if they have actually improved anything or if they're just saying they have, because I would have thought if they have actually been working on this stuff since release, they would have released an update when it was ready, not tied into a DLC launch a year after the game came out...

I bought all the DLC for Fallout 3 PC and really enjoyed the game, finished it twice in fact on 360 then later on the PC, but I got bored of New Vegas about 15 hours in and haven't bothered playing it since or buying any of its DLC. The game felt way too samey and dated (thanks to its clunky engine) to me to be considered a worthy sequel.

Not a bad game I suppose; just another example, along with the equally disappointing BioShock 2, of how sequels to addictive, enjoyable games aren't necessarily themselves anywhere near as good.

Old World is right. At this point, looking at FONV screenshots makes me sad. They are so...ugly, so...creaky and bland.

Just started playing this again, and I'm about 70 hours in. I'm loving it and I'll finish it, but I don't know if I'll get the DLC.

Why dont they hurry up and release them all already. Its obvious they have been made a while ago.

I'm pretty sure no one would deny the Gamebryo engine is dated; it's not exactly a conspiracy. I for one like the way it feels and looks; it has character like a classic car and I'll take Chris Avellone's writing with a few bugs over the slick pollish, but otherwise nonsense storyline of the modern warfare series.

How quickly we forget the problems of yester-year and grow fat on the frantic immediacy of modern corperate chowder.

Ho hum. I'm sure I'll get back to it eventually. I used to breathe and sleep Fallout (bad for the lungs), but NV I just couldn't get stay interested in.

Great, new quests. :) I only started playing New Vegas about a month ago, I thought it sucked before. Over the last couple of weeks I have played the game for 130 hours (50 hour Hardcore playthrough, 80 hour do everything, see everything playthrough). I have experienced a couple of freezes, especially while doing the BoS quests, but it can't be more than 10. How anyone experiences a freeze every 90 minutes is beyond me.

IMO it is far superior to Fallout 3 because it is actually a successor to Fallout 1 and 2. Fallout 3 had the name and the characters and the weaponry, but it was not a very Fallout experience. And the map (especially the DC area where you had to use tunnels to get to places and could not pass ruins otherwise) sucked. With Fallout New Vegas there is just so much to see and explore, even at 80 hours I have yet to find every location and do every quest (that is without listening to the characters, I just read and click them away).

As for the DLCs I strongly disagree with EG. Dead Money had a good story but the gameplay sucked. And the environment was very shallow and small. Honest Hearts on the other hand is offering a totally new environment which is both beautiful and pretty big. The story is not as good as Dead Money's, but overall it is a much better DLC because you get to explore much more stuff. And there are some pretty interesting side stories to be found while looking around caves. It actually expands New Vegas, where Dead Money pretty much has no real connection to the main game. You can't even go back to the Sierra Madre after you completed the game to get some challenges done or whatever, it just ends while you can go back to Zion valley as often as you want to.

Dead Money 6/10 (EG says 7/10)
Honest Hearts 8/10 (EG says 6/10)

    I enjoyed Honest Hearts.
  • Zaiz #18 11 months ago

Honest Hearts was fun, but I think I've got a mild mod conflict since in VATS the thompson shoots red ! signs at me. >.> I find it terribly amusing, so I'm not going to fix it.

Also, I'm pretty pumped for this DLC. It looks like a fun environment with lots of wacky creatures/weapons. The original Fallout's DLC was really, really meh, with the exception of Point Lookout, which was of better quality than the main game.

I have already played well over 200 hours of F:NV. My woman is going to be so unhappy when I get all these DLCs and start my, what, 6th playthrough.

    YASSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!
