Harry Potter MMO incoming?

Mystery Pottermore site launches.

A mysterious new Harry Potter teaser website has fans of the teenage wizard's adventures speculating that an MMO based on the series could be on its way.

The site, pottermore.com, shows nothing but a logo, author J K Rowling's signature and the words "Coming soon".

It's definitely legit – as Massively notes, the site is owned by Warner Bros. - however, no further details have yet been made public.

It could of course refer to a new book in the series, or some kind of community portal perhaps, but an MMO is another likely possibility.

Its trademark page betrays a few hints as to what Warner has in store:

"Providing multiple-user access to a global computer information network; providing on-line chat rooms and electronic bulletin boards for transmission of messages among users in the field of general interest; providing on-line communications links which transfer the web site user to other local and global web pages; providing on-line facilities for real-time interaction with other computer users concerning topics of general interest."

Adding further fuel to the fire, Massively's report points out that the "-more" part of the title could stand for "Multiplayer Online Role-playing Experience".

On top of that, a rumour did the rounds a few years back that Lord of the Rings Online developer Turbine – which is owned by Warner Bros – had netted $40 million of funding to work on a Potter MMO.

We might not have to wait too long to find what's afoot. A count-down on Rowling's YouTube channel is due to run out on 23rd June.
