PS Move "doesn't add value" to FIFA

EA explains.

EA has confirmed Kinect support for FIFA – indeed it's set to incorporate the motion-sensing tech into the series for next year's game. But what about PlayStation Move?

Sony's motion controller isn't on EA Sports' radar for FIFA, senior vice president of worldwide development Andrew Wilson told Eurogamer.

"We have not focused on PS Move for FIFA, but that's not to say we won't," he said.

"There have been different problems we're solving as we go through the process. That's not one we've sought to solve. We've focused a lot with PS Move with Tiger, and we've looked at other sports where it seems a natural fit."

Why isn't Move right for FIFA? Because it "doesn't add value" to the experience.

"What we learnt coming through the Wii development cycle is to use the controller to add value, and if the controller doesn't add value, don't use it.

"Far be it for me to say the Move controller is right or wrong for FIFA. We've not seen it to add value today. But it's only one person that comes and says, 'I've got a great idea.'"

EA Sports president Peter Moore popped up on stage during Microsoft's E3 press conference last week to reveal three games set for Kinect support: FIFA, Madden NFL and Tiger Woods PGA Tour. A fourth mystery game will also receive Kinect integration.

I agree, pretending you're kicking a football in front of the telly adds so much more to the experience.
  • PixelPirate #2 12 months ago

lol Kinect adds value but Move doesnt?

obviously money hats involved, I cant see how pointing at the screen for who to pass to etc, wouldn't be an interesting control scheme.
  • thewool #3 12 months ago

Really glad I didn't buy either Move or Kinect at this point...
  • SHPanda #4 12 months ago

Of course Kinect can add value that the Move can't to a FIFA. The clue is in the name of the sport football, Move uses your hands. I'm not a fan of Kinect at all, but I can see how it could appeal in a football game to a certain segment of the audience.

Move I guess could be implemented for just goal keeping or throw ins, but they'd feel tacked on for the sake of it.

But the Wii controller does? Surely its the same thing? EA? hello? whats that? M$ payed you lots of money?? oh, oh right...i see..

What we did was to take a sublimely playable football game and add loads of tacked on motion control.

Work quite well in PES on the wii.
  • Ultrasoundwave #9 12 months ago

But...............i thought EA and Sony were giving each other blow jobs on a constant basis??

Seems Sony is in the doghouse?

Don't really care what the haters think, football in Kinect Sports works rather well, and is a lot of fun. I was hoping for a Kinect-centric FIFA title, or at least a Kinect-only arcade mode of FIFA that took that concept, and made a more (for lack of a better word) serious game of it.

Like almost all of the perks Kinect provides, the only use I could see for this with FIFA is voice commands. Issuing substitute orders or tactical changes on the fly could actually be kind of cool.

Still won't get me Kinect just for that, though.

    "Xbox! Offside trap!"

The only thing they will likely add is being able to stand up and celebrate when you score or shout swear words into the Kinect ala Rooney.

Football on Kinect Sports is fun but cannot compare with the accuracy in passing and such you can achieve with a controller so it'll be interesting to see how they'll implement Kinect in Fifa. Fifa on Wii is rather terrible so can kinda understand their point as other than throw ins can't see why I'd want to flap my hands about, other than throw ins or passing someone a large wad of cash.
  • Augmentation #14 12 months ago

I might be missing something here but hasn't soccer always been against using your hands (outside of the goalies)? Aaand isn't the Move specifically for hands...?
  • Steroyd #15 12 months ago

Player switching to the wrong person at the wrong moment in defence or attack is what has pissed me right off in both Fifa and Pro Evo for ages, and EA is saying this pointing at exactly who I want to control "wouldn't add value"?

    Riiiiiiight....
  • onezeonx #16 12 months ago

    @14

So I suppose you use your feet on your controller then?

Using hands on that would be cheating!
  • HL706 #17 12 months ago

The only way I could see Kinect working for FIFA is for full body control of the goalie. It would be kinda cool in that sense. Well, until you make an acrobatic save - breaking a few ribs in the process.

    Is that Chad in accounts?

From a motion point of view, of course Kinect is better suited. Unless you want to cellotape the move controller to your foot. I'm not exactly a massive fan of Kinect but try and at least give credit where it's due. Kinect Sports Football works suprisingly well actually and couldn't be replicated with Move. Is it better than using a controller? Of course not. It IS a different experience though and a fun one at that.

GOLF ACCESSORY IN FOOTBALL INCOMPATABILITY SHOCKER
  • MinerWilly #21 12 months ago

Im a Move owner and agree motion control would be ridiculous but i also think its just as useless on any of the platforms . Gamepad every time for FIFA or PES .
  • Dizzy #22 12 months ago

Swinging a plastic tube in a football game doesn't do anything shocker!
  • coomber #23 12 months ago

Glad to see someone applying common sense to this motion rubbish. Just a shame they caved in over Kinect.

"Yearly FIFA updates doesn't add value to gaming."

    Fixed.
  • theonlyix #25 12 months ago

Move doesnt add anything to anything.... its a wii controller disguised as a black sheep!

    All hail the copycat!
  • reeferchief #26 12 months ago

@Scophe, I think you misunderstood, they've tried using the wii remote on FIFA games and found it hard to implement, on FIFA 11 on the wii you use the classic controller. Unfortunately the physics completely suck and the wii version is still seriously flawed compared to PS3/360.
  • Pastici #27 12 months ago

Its Kinect supported, not a Kinect game. Stop freaking out guys, like others have said it will most likely be for issuing voice commands like in Mass Effect. Why they can't do it with a head set though is beyond me.
  • woodyrulesok #28 12 months ago

At first I thought 'well obviously' but just thinking about it for a second, surely it's the other way around.
I can't work out how you would control the players with kinect?
With the move you'd have the normal thumb stick for direction and then the move to aim on screen, like shoot here or some kind marquee button so you could quickly circle two players and tell them to make a run with another button press.
  • metamorphic #29 12 months ago

And Kinect does? Yeah, I'm sure another on-rail "shooter" adds a hell of a lot of realism to the game, lol. Just admit you're money-grubbing greedy toads, EA.

Really? This is not wether one controlsystem adds value to the gameplay or not, but wether someone "invests" money in EA to get them to include something in a VERY popular footy game as promotion.
One that brings out at least 1 new version each year.
  • Darren #31 12 months ago

Kinect and Move are both rubbishy gimmicks. That is all. :)
  • MeBrains #32 12 months ago

exactly the same comment between kinect and move, but subline here says 'move doesn't add value', while kinect's line said ' kinect support coming to fifa' (or something alike)
