Eurogamer.net E3 Podcasts

All four days inside!

This is the blog post for the final day of the Eurogamer.net E3 podcasts. You'll find the previous three days available to listen to at the bottom of this piece.

There were many misty eyes around the Eurogamer E3 2011 Podcast Compound - a rented shack under the 405 Freeway - as our broadcasting adventure came to its inevitable end. E3 2011 is over, and now we're left to pick up the pieces.

The question of the day here on Eurogamer throughout the show has been, "Who's winning?" John Teti is joined by Oli Welsh and GamesIndustry.biz editor Matt Martin as we shift into the past tense and ask, "Who won?" All three of us sort of punt on the question, pointing toward a stalemate, but it is a silly question in the first place, isn't it?

Matt reveals that it's possible to make it through E3 without ever putting your hands on a controller. Instead of going booth to booth on the show floor, he's spent the week interviewing some of the biggest how-do-you-dos in the industry. Matt's a pretty big deal, if he does say so himself, and he does.

Then it's on to the games. Oli saw Star Trek, but he can't talk much about it yet, thanks to that bane of every writer's existence, the arbitrary embargo. He's more forthcoming with impressions of Defiance, an MMO that will be produced in conjunction with a TV show on SyFy. Defiance promises to mix the self-regard of fanatical MMO players with the inevitable narcissism of TV fame. Is this a plan destined to end in tears? We discuss. (Spoiler: Yes, it is.)

The Official Game itself. In solemn remembrance of E3 2011.

John shares his take on Prey 2 and Mass Effect 3. He was impressed by one and depressed by the other. But which one is which? You'll have to listen to find out, and to hear what John thinks about Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, the upcoming successor to his beloved Oblivion.

Of course the show would not be complete without more reporting on The Official Game of The Eurogamer E3 2011 Podcast, Brother in Arms: The Furious 4. Today comes breaking news: brand-new screenshots of the Official Game itself! They're positively oozing with dignity. No, sorry, that's blood. They look so similar.

We wrap up our week by discussing who "lost" E3, and in due course we end up being probably a little too mean to Ubisoft's Mr. Caffeine. And then, alas, time runs out on our podcastin' adventure together in the Los Angeles sun. Thanks for listening!
