Nintendo demos Zelda on Wii U

A taste of things to come?

Nintendo has shown an impressive demo of a Zelda game running on new console Wii U.

The graphically impressive, high resolution game showed Link fighting a giant spider. On the Wii U touch-screen controller the player was simultaneously navigating the inventory.

The Zelda tech demo is playable at E3 this week.

Note that this is not a full Zelda Wii U game. But it's a clear indication of how a Zelda Wii U game will work. Perhaps it could become a reality sooner rather than later.

The Nintendo Wii U consists of a base unit and a fancy touch-screen controller. The graphics capabilities seem on par with what PS3 and Xbox 360 can achieve.

Nintendo hasn't announced nitty-gritty tech specs yet.
