UK Top 40: LA Noire locked in first

Hunted fails to forge top ten spot.

Dark detective drama L.A. Noire has extended its reign on top of the charts, spending a third week at number one.

Co-operative fantasy fighter Hunted: The Demon's Forge was last week's major new contender, but the Bethesda-published adventure could only capture 14th place.

Hunted's platform sales broke down to 63 per cent Xbox 360, 30 per cent on PS3 and 7 per cent on PC (excluding downloads).

Sims 3: Generations - the life simulation's fourth expansion - fared better, knocking up a tenth place entry on PC.

Lego Pirates of the Caribbean is anchored in second, no doubt buoyed by the release of fourth film On Stranger Tides.

Codemasters' rally racer Dirt 3 revved into third. Colourful caricatured shooter Brink held fifth place.

The Wii bundle-backed Wii Sports Resort spends its 98th week in the UK Top 40, reclining in sixth.

Chart stalwarts COD: Black Ops, FIFA 11, and Portal 2 fill out seventh, eighth and ninth respectively.

    Taking this one case at a session, and absolutely loving it. Even Mrs StooMonster, who normally hates games, is interested enough to watch and even participate.

    hunted might be an ok game and might get on pc in future but for now it came out at busy time for me and other games.

    quite surprised at Hunted,i thought that the most recent trailer(happy together),made it look pretty good,although that guys voice was irritating straight away

    Well deserved for L.A. Noire. It's not perfect but it is refreshingly different and the voice acting, lip sync and facial expressions are absolutely stunning.

    Wow, I didn't think LA Noire had this kind of sticking power. Could it be because, as well s being a fun game, it appeals to people who don't normally play games? I was playing last week, and my housemates all just sat round and watched and commented.

    I've had the same experience, my wife has enjoyed watching a bit while we play, and we've talked through some of the moral quandries in the game.

    In the run-up to the game coming out we also had a bit of a film noire retrospective, including The Maltese Falcon, The Big Sleep (which incidentally is playing eveywhere in LA during the game, it came out in 1946), LA Confidential, Chinatown, and a few others.

    Loving the game, probably in the final quarter, although it's not without a few problems, repetition of game mechanics being the main one.

    Hunted (PC version) is proving to be a guilty pleasure at the moment even though it isn't anywhere near as good as it could and should have been. The RPG elements of upgrading weapons/armour and attacks/magic plus the enjoyable combat is keeping me playing in spite of its bland UE3 visuals, forgettable story/characters and generic level design.

    I'm glad LA Noire is doing so well, despite the repetition it suffers from later in the game. Hopefully it'll be like Assassins Creed; a good idea and very entertaining despite being a bit shonky in its execution, but the next one will be much, much better :)

    Blasted through it in 20ish hours now taking it one case at a time. L.A. Nöire is different class.
