Duke Nukem Forever DLC detailed?

Karaoke! Maps! Impregnader weapon!

Duke Nukem Forever will reportedly receive at least three packs of downloadable content, bringing new weapons, maps and modes - including karaoke.

Details of the DLC have emerged from files found in Duke Nukem Forever's demo - posted online by egamer.

DLC Pack #1 contains four new weapons - a minigun, a "noob tube", a sticky grenade and a "BFG" - the latter of which was a big plasma weapon found in Doom and Quake.

DLC Pack #2 consists of three new deathmatch maps - "EDF Base", "LKR" and "Map 3", presumably for the game's multiplayer mode.

DLC Pack #3 includes 15 new single-player maps, arm wrestling, the "Impregnader" weapon and a karaoke machine.

This tallies with recent comments made by long-time voice of Duke, Jon St. John: "There will be special add-on packs and features," he said, "including... I don't know if I am allowed to talk about this or not... something that may involve singing. I'll leave it at that."

Duke Nukem Forever's demo is available now to those who pre-ordered the game. It weighs in at a hefty 1.7GB. Pre-order customers also get Duke Nukem's first DLC free.

Isnt the demo just Xbox only still?
  • Haloboy #2 12 months ago

I just played the demo! I now wish I hadn't. But then it is the E3 2010 demo.

  • spitfire1945 #3 12 months ago

Nope. But it's avalable only to those that have the First Access Code. I got mine with Borderlands GOTY edition, but it was also available in other 2 or 3 ways.
  • kinky_mong #4 12 months ago

12 years in the making, and they'll still cut stuff to sell on later!
  • EmiliasHorse #5 12 months ago

A demo for someone who pre-orders? Surely they don't need a demo as they have made up their minds already. Sell me over Duke... make me want your game.
  • uknortherner2000 #6 12 months ago

Yeah, with all this day-one DLC bollocks, I think my interest in DNF is gone.
  • Goonboy #7 12 months ago

    @roquey

After playing the PC Demo this afternoon,
all i can say is, it's not top of my shopping list.

i HATE DLC news BEFORE the fucking game is even released!

sick of the DLC culture these days!
it should be something that adds to a game weeks or months after release....not stuff to get more money by removing it from what should be on the fucking disc!!

    rant over :p
  • sabbede #11 12 months ago

I'm pretty sure day 1 DLC makes piracy moral.
  • gribb #12 12 months ago

The demo is for PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, but honestly don't get your hopes up.

It wasn't great, let's just put it that way.
  • SpookyTang #13 12 months ago

I hope that demo code isn't what the retail game will be like, long loading times and serious performance issues.
  • Haloboy #14 12 months ago

Don't forget the fact that it looks like this http://img19.imageshack.us/img19/8792/du... even on the highest possible settings
  • merc2k7 #15 12 months ago

Just played the 360 version, not bad but not good either. Average FPS, Duke's humour is old, will be waiting for a price drop and canceling my Balls of Steel preorder!!
  • Mister-Wario #16 12 months ago

    Heh, Impregnader.
  • O2L #17 12 months ago

The game is GOOD, The demo is NOT.
i might have a little wait before buying this game next week
  • bad09 #18 12 months ago

You really have to wonder why publishers and devs de-value their games with pimping DLC before the game even hits.
  • acehotshot #19 12 months ago

I do like how they ran out of names for the DLC Maps. 'Map 3'. :D
  • -cerberus- #20 12 months ago

DLC already? Well, I'll be sure to add this to my not-to-buy list along with the main game then!
  • Rosswell #21 12 months ago

It was not a bad demo but I feel it was an old build because its the exact same demo that was at PAX last year I'm hoping the full game will be a little better.
  • Fightclubber #22 12 months ago

The demo is a nightmare, looks ugly as hell and just the over all design and layout of some of the levels reeks of mid 90s game design.
Felt like id found an old ps1 demo disc and slotted it in my 360

It did look like that old demo from pax last year tho, so im still praying it can be improved

Just played the demo with my credit card in my right hand dribbling ready to lock in that steam price because I am a Duke fanboy and have been wanking off over this shit in excitement for years!

    BUT....
HOLY SHIT THIS GAME IS SHIT!!!!

Depth effects ruin the game and cause some horizontal lines too which they apparently when I emailed say are part of the effect!

Runs at 250fps on 2x480gtx on top settings so it'll run on anything

BUT holy crap the badguys have no brains its like the first Doom lol they point at your location and do nothing else. If you kill them they fall in half or just die.

I killed a ship on top of 2 generic pigs and they spent the next 5 minutes twitching and spazzing out whilst dead.

If you turn off the filters because of the horrible distance effects you will see what lays underneath - ALL textures are very low res

Worst FPS of the last 2 years including anything from indie devs. Even the crazy weapons were not fun and hard to aim. Seems you can't carry more than 1 large weapon.

Doom3 Massively owns this game in terms of everything and it's now years old.

For the love of GOD please agree with me! Developers cannot get away with this and poor sales of Duke are one thing needed to make them think!

@O2L 'The game is GOOD, The demo is NOT.

How can you be sure the game is good? I'm not saying it isn't, but all we have to go on is the demo, and it doesn't sound encouraging so far.
I'd like to believe it's going to be great, as an old fan, but after the development hell it's been through, I remain cynical.
  • alan_stealth #26 12 months ago

I seriously don't know what people were expecting.
You can see some of the game is still present from the 2001 trailer... from 10 years ago.

I wasn't hoping for some next generation reworking of Duke - maybe that'd come next.
This is the game I had £40 down to play, over 10 years ago.

When MW2 was still just a nightmare of the future to come... getting to play this, is like your fav band reuniting and touring "one last time".
Yeah the original drummers not there anymore, everyones a bit older and fatter, don't sound quite as good, and are a little outdated, but fuck it.

If you loved Duke, then you'll buy this.
If you didn't then, simply put, "you're not welcome".

This is an old boy's club.
Pour out a little liquor, for the last of the true video game action hero.

"the over all design and layout of some of the levels reeks of mid 90s game design"

Sounds great to me. Personally I think there is nothing wrong with 90s game design at all, especially FPS level design. Games likes Doom, Duke3d & Quake used to unceremoniously dump players into a huge, open level with a dozen cool weapons, another dozen or so unique monster types (instead of the same generic human cannon fodder like COD), fold their arms and say "go on, beat me". That's it! No cinematics to interrupt the flow, no chest high walls to hide behind like a baby while your health regenerates, no hand holding objective arrow pointing exactly where to go, nobody screaming orders at you telling you what to do. If you wanted to find the exit, look for it yourself! Pure, simple and fun.

If anything the fact that Gearbox (or 3D Realms before they handed it over) slapped on a Halo style health and weapon system onto Duke Forever only proves it's not old-school enough. And I bet dollars to donuts that the FOV and mouse aiming will be borked just like every other Unreal 3 powered console ported monstrosity. Lame. It'd be nice if the demo was available to everyone so we could find out, eh?
  • Fightclubber #28 12 months ago

    @desomondo

I meant just weak and lazy game design, as in shit A.I horrible weapon handling and basicness to the point of blandness
  • desomondo #29 12 months ago

    @Fightclubber

Sorry, I didn't mean my comment to sound like an attack. Weak and lazy design is still weak and lazy design no matter what era the game is attempting to emulate. I just don't see anything personally wrong with attempting to make an mid 90s throwback. I can't help it... I grew up on those games and, if anything, really detest modern game design (Bioshock compared to System Shock 2 for example). Like I said, it'd be nice if we all could give the demo a go so we could make up our own opinions before we lay out our cash :)
