Witcher 2 on Xbox 360 in November
UPDATE: CDP confirms 2011 release.
UPDATED: Developer CD Projekt has confirmed the news during its Summer Conference - the The Witcher II is coming to Xbox 360 later this year with all the content from the PC version intact.
ORIGINAL STORY: Two major Polish retailers list PC role-playing game The Witcher 2 for release on Xbox 360 on 15th November 2011.
That's a Tuesday.
There's no sign of a PlayStation 3 version, reveals The Witcher Wiki.
Gram.pl, which used to be owned by the game's Polish developer CD Projekt, has box art for the Xbox 360 version.
Shop Ultima does not, but carries the 15th November date.
Last month the American age ratings board ESRB outed an Xbox 360 version of The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings.
This backed comments by CD Projekt, which told Eurogamer that a new Witcher game would be announced at E3 "that console gamers might be interested in".
"Fans of RPGs should consider The Witcher 2 a must-buy," declared Eurogamer's 9/10 Witcher 2 review. "There's simply no competitor that can touch it in terms of poise, characterisation and storytelling, or the way in which it treats you not as a player - someone to be pandered to and pleased - but as an adult, free to make your own mistakes and suffer a plot in which not everyone gets what they deserve."

Game looks damn good, but is launching in an already-overcrowded November the best idea? My top tip would be to either release in the Summer or leave it til next February.
Edit: @ Shikasama #16 - There are a tonne of great games that are coming out that month - Dark Souls, Skyrim, maybe The Last Guardian (Pleeeease!), Uncharted 3, plus I'll prob still be playing through Deus Ex. Considering I'd never even heard of the Witcher until last week, it won't be on my radar. But if it came out in, say, July - it'd definitely be in with a shot. As it is, I suppose I shall just have to go out and get some fresh air and sunshine this summer ("Aaaah my eyes my eyes!" etc).

EDIT: To those negging my comment do you not see the logic? Skyrim and Witcher 2 sitting beside each other on the shop shelf. What a tough decision on which one to buy....not.

However it would not surprise me if they decided to concentrate on one console to start with. They're a great company and studio and I know some of the people there personally. They will want to make this as good as they can and they may well believe that one machine is work enough for their first console release

Not many care about late ports, but releasing in November definently has its benefits.Holidays, black Friday(US),Christmas...people throw money left and right in that period

I don't mind if they port it for consoles I don't particularly hate consoles/console people but any game that is multiplat from the start or comes later from a console port as an aftertought usually suffers and has to make many compromises in the PC version.
I know if it's multipalt form the start it will be not a bad port but that doesn't mean it is good as well because then they ultimately tailor it to the console versions.
@DJ_2011
Oh that was a rather fanboyish comment don't you think????
Do you know why even after a year PC people still wait for a RDR port because we know it's fucking awsome.
Whereas I do agree there are examples when they shouldn't bother releasing a port because the game will be forgotten and not needed like Fable3 for PC.
That was really just a wasted effort it came only to PC because M$ flapped their mouth too much about reviving the PC market and they had to do something for PR reasons tough it backfired on them heavily.
The Witcher 2 is also a game that is heavily anticipated and I think it will have a great following for the xbox as well just like RDR still has many followers on the PC.
Also to say something about Skyrim for christ sake it's a bethesda game made with a new graphics engine people should consider to buy the GOTY edition maybe then it will have patches for the patches of the patches that fix the amount of game breaking bugs that will make it unplayable at release on any platform. This commign from someone who liked oblivion, morrowind, and fallout.

The two are very different games.. I wouldn't really say one is better than the other. But Oblivion was watered down and had very little substance, I expect Skyrim to follow that trend. The Witcher is much more story driven and doesn't make any concessions for casual gamers or those who constantly need their hand held.
I'm not an elitest gamer by any means, but after the likes of DA2, that has to be appreciated and you're doing yourself a massive disservice if you miss out on this game. Not to mention all Bethesda games are horribly buggy when they're first released, to the point of being almost completely broken. It can wait a few weeks/months.

Edited 1 times, most recently on"
Yeah, easy decision. I would buy The Witcher 2 no question. It has already been released to critical acclaim.
Whereas Skyrim has not been reviewed or played by anyone, for all I know it could be dreadful. All I have to go on is Oblivion which was a huge disappointment for me, probably the biggest of this generation. Morrowind is one of my all time favourite games, but after Skyrim I wait for reviews of Bethesda's games before purchasing.

Too many people these days play on "normal" or higher and if their character isn't breezing through the enemy (like Fable 3) then they bitch and moan about how hard it is instead of sucking up your pride and playing on "easy". They want the developers to completely rebalance the game instead of taking the 10 seconds of time needed to change the difficultly setting.

im sure the port will be excellent though it should go without saying that graphics will be throttled back. that of course depends on the the system you have setup. i played it on max everything (w/o ubersampling) @ 1920 x 1200 with a average fps of 45 so i was very impressed. however, the textures arent the main focus of this game so that should look similar once ported. the main focus was the epic lighting, shading and dangling objects etc. that will take a hit.
Personally found the game to be a 9/10. The combat was a little to finicky in the sense that if you weren't 'locked' to an enemy you wouldnt hit them despite slashing his face off. also, the menu system wasnt amazing and console owners will find it even more awkward.
As a whole. Great job CD Projekt. Gimme some expansion packs so I can stick it to those Nilfgaardian sucker MCs!

They are a small dev with great customer focus, if you want it on PS3 get over to their boards and ask them.
EDIT - I get marked down for telling someone this company might listen if he asks for a PS3 version? Some of you people are completes pricks on this site!

Maybe we should wait until after E3 to be making "Xbox has no gaems!" posts? It's very likely the Halo remake will release in November, and they obviously do have more games coming, even if they're going to be focused on Kinect. Anyone who says they wouldn't be excited for a new Viva Pinata or Black & White game has no soul.
More likely, it's just some kind of deal with Microsoft to release it on the Xbox or the dev's simply wanted to focus on one system at a time.

Also they clearly said that they go for XBOX version first mainly because of the human resources available, so they concentrate on delivering the best of their work to one console, instead of doing 2 ports at once without providing enough quality. That might not be good news for PS3 users, but at least is fair with everybody.

This is great news if true because it means we can expect a good port on the Xbox 360. Obviously this is at the expense of PS3 owners, but im perfectly fine with that : )

Oh, that's not what I meant, I just meant I wouldn't. Of course I'm sure plenty of people will play it on console just fine - I just hope it doesn't get lost in translation. I just don't trust ports much, especially when it's such a technically demanding title.

(If you then buy 20 full price standard pc games over the next 2 years that you would otherwise have played on console you will have made your money back, and with access to steam sales you can have cheap games without dirtying you honour with pre-owned games)

This is why console owners are often seen as twats.

I think the problem is be it on pc or consoles that some people, well most people expect everything to be a mindles button mashing. Just like when the hunter was overpowered in WOW you went in rolled your face over the keyboard and 2200 arena rating was yours.
Now I don't know whose fault is it, either developers for thinking that people want every game to be a visual novel or young COD kiddies who have not/can not/will not/ activate their brain cells. I blame that on the shody general education not just in the US as it's cutomary to do but also in some European countries as well.
The thing is that nowadays we rarely recieve a challenging game be it console or pc and yeah generally the console are associated with the dumbing down mentality for dumb people.
I'm not saying that I agree, there are brain dead people on all platforms but you must admit that usually you only hear moaning about difficulty from the console side.

That's why I said usually and not always.
Pc also has a fair share of fanboys and idiots. From a personal opinion I saw more complaining over the years from difficulty standpoint from the console side but that's strictly personal.

Starcraft 2 - Blizzard had to put in place game modes to teach people how to play multiplayer because it was too "hard" for people to get into
Witcher 2 - as i said above
- these are the only pc exclusives that i can think of at the moment that have been released/updated recently and they've all had issues with pc players complaining about difficulty levels. PC gamers and Console gamers are as bad as each other IMO. For every console CoD obsessive, theres a PC gamer who has just got a PC that plays games to an average standard and is just as clueless as his console brethren.
