Sega ponders Guardian Heroes PSN launch

Developer issues Facebook poll.

Would you buy Guardian Heroes on PSN?

The side-scrolling brawler already has a makeover booked for its relaunch on Xbox Live Arcade this autumn. Sega wants to know if PlayStation 3 owners are interested, too.

Guardian Heroes is a classic Treasure-developed beat 'em-up from the halcyon days of the Sega Saturn. The remake brings HD graphics, online co-op - and the option to switch back to the original at any time.

"Guardian Heroes is coming to XBLA, but we've heard rumblings from fans that you'd like a PSN version as well," a post on Sega's Facebook page and official forum reads. "If Guardian Heroes were to come to PSN, would you buy it?"

On Sega's forum poll 88.51 per cent have responded that they would. 11.49 per cent say they wouldn't. On Facebook, however, it's more even - 716 people say yes, 736 no.

So, would you buy Guardian Heroes on PSN?

I'll buy it on XBL or PSN, it doesn't matter to me. I generally prefer that kind of games on the PS3 though because of the D-pad so given the choice I'd go for PSN.

Let's make it really simple for you Sega, save you some time.

The answer will be, yes. Now go get it done and stop procrastinating.

Oh and you can put Dragon Froce and Shining Force 3 on PSN and XBLA whilst you're at it.

360 owners voting on a PS3 poll? Nah, can't be...

What's to ponder? Get it done!

I'll buy it on whichever console gets it first I think. As long as they don't pull any bullshit where they add exclusive features to the version that arrives later, I hate it when they do that.

I can safely say I will not buy it on any platform :)

I want it on Saturn. Surely that's got be fairly cheap to re-produce!

@BBIAJ Ooo you lucky bastard! Trying to import a Jap copy meself. Generally a bit cheaper.

I take it Microsoft didn't stump up the cash this time so Sega are shopping it elsewhere too.

    @sonicyoda:

I have it on Saturn, and it cost me nought, as a kindly friend donated me his entire SEGA Saturn games collection!

Odds are the PS3 version is and always was being developed in parallel and this is just a planned bit of extra fan-pleasing hype. If there was a really good reason for this being on 360 only (paid exclusive, some unlikely technical limitation, or Treasure disliking PS3 for unknown reasons), Sega wouldn't tease like this.

If I'm wrong, how about a poll on whether people would buy Yakuza or Valkyria Chronicles on 360? Come to think of it, why are they exclusive to Sony machines?

FFS Sega, sort it out, just release it on the PSN
  • Pasco #14 12 months ago

If I buy it, I will buy it for Xbox. But I am still on the fence, since I don't like paying for Saturn graphics when games from other developers on XBLA or even other games from the same developer have more work put into them (Bionic Commando Rearmed, Bangaio HD, Street Fighter HD). Filtered low-res graphics won't do it for me.
  • kupocake #15 12 months ago

Maybe. Ahead of PSN versions of Ikaruga and Radiant Silvergun? Nope. I guess SEGA doesn't have the same level of control?

Pasco, although the game uses sprites and backgrounds straight from the original, the game doesn't really have Saturn graphics. Everything is being drawn to the screen in HD widescreen, so the sprites shouldn't look flickery when they move into the distance like they did on Saturn, even in the 'Saturn' mode.

A complete remake would probably be a greater task than the likes of the HD version of Street Fighter 2 because of the huge number of characters. And in my view, even though it looked great in screenshots, I feel that that SSF2T-HD looked a bit flat and charmless in motion compared to the originals.

Without wanting to sound like one of those horrific fanboy types, I heavily suspect most of the people who are voting 'no' do not use a PS3 as their primary console anyway.

Still got a Saturn, still got GH. Oh, and NiGHTS, VF2, Virtual On, etcetera. Life is good.

Why the fuck not is my question.
