LA Noire Rockstar Pass released on Xbox

New "Reefer Madness" DLC outed.

L.A. Noire's mysterious Rockstar Pass is available now from the Xbox Live Marketplace, priced 800 Points.

Microsoft's listing has finally detailed the download's contents - including a forthcoming unrevealed DLC pack, "Reefer Madness".

The pass immediately grants access to the game's various pre-order items, the first announced DLC pack "Nicholson Electroplating" upon its 21st June release and another add-on, "Reefer Madness".

Rockstar split pre-order content five ways - extra costumes The Broderick Detective Suit, The Sharpshooter Detective Suit and The Badge Pursuit Challenge & Button Man Suit, the latter of which adds an additional collection quest to the title.

There's also "The Naked City" Vice Case and "A Slip Of The Tongue" Traffic Case, which each add 100 Achievement Points.

June's "Nicholson Electroplating" is an Arson Case, while "Reefer Madness" is a Vice Case. Rockstar Pass owners will able to redeem both free upon their release.

The game's extra cases are set during the existing game's storyline, and can be accessed via the game's "Cases" menu.

The Rockstar Pass was originally slated for launch two weeks ago. Was the delay to accomodate PlayStation 3 owners, ahead of the PSN Store's imminent return?

Reefer madness? Gosh Rockstar you are so edgy.
  • Yuroko #2 12 months ago

Yeah, go on, for 800 points I'll have some of that.
  • LHH #3 12 months ago

I knew it wouldn't be worth preordering this game (for the bonus dlc or whatever shit they tried selling it with)
  • Eraserhead #4 12 months ago

Jonsaan: Reefer Madness is the actual title of a (now famous) propaganda film from the '40s, warning against the supposed dangers of weed (apparently it can send you mad!).

So, um, don't take it seriously.

  • geeza2020 #6 12 months ago

do we get all the pre-order stuff with this as well? It seems like a lot of stuff for 800 points.
  • asphaltcowboy #7 12 months ago

@jonharrispro I don't think you're missing anything. Seems like four cases (plus other bits and bobs) for 800MS.
  • slickster #8 12 months ago

what is 800 points in pounds? i would like to know for when it comes to psn.
  • asphaltcowboy #9 12 months ago

@Slickster If you buy your MS points at full retail price, it equates to about £6.85.

    Great value.

Only problem (besides the PSN Store being down) is that I can only get R500 vouchers in South Africa (50 pounds) :(
  • TechnicPuppet #16 12 months ago

I'm so over this game now. Its half good.

In Australia, if you preordered at EB you would pay AU$110 for the special pre-order copies with this code. I price-matched though to somewhere else and paid $90, although other stores even sold it for $80.
At the EB they told me they couldn't price match for the "pre-order" version with the code, and gave me a code less shelf copy instead.
In Australia, 800 points is roughly $14. Essentially to get the code on day one would have cost $30 over simply buying the game off the shelf at a department store. This kind of thing has been going on all the time lately with preorders. Dragon Age 2 came with a mousemat and a code for e a magic hat or something, but if you wanted that junk you would have to pay $30 more than the cheapest copy of the game at department stores.

    @ubergine

That's because Australia hates gamers. And human beings in general.
  • HL706 #19 12 months ago

That actually sounds like pretty good value. It certainly makes a mockery of Activision's 3 maps for 1200MSP!

Does anyone know how to get this working? I just purchased the Online pass. Booted up the game and pressed X for Marketplace. All the items have "Owned - Coming Soon" next to them...
  • Toothball #22 12 months ago

This Online Pass is a bit better than I was expecting. I'm not much of a fan of all these bits of retailer-specific DLC as it usually takes them a long time to make the same things available to the rest of the audience. At least they're coming up with all of these in one go.

Not sure whether I'll bother yet though, I'll see once I finish the game.
  • Cronan #23 12 months ago

@WillyWongler The pass will allow you to download the DLC as it comes out, starting in June. Buying it early gives you a discount, that's all.

This is a nice idea, a good way to get some more money out of money, 800 points is nothing, my coffee and sandwich for lunch today cost me £6.
  • whome #24 12 months ago

apparently if you buy the two cases available now seperately they work, if you buy the pass they don't.
  • WillyWongler #25 12 months ago

    @Cronan

It's not just the June DLCs that are locked, but also the ones that are already released. Maybe it will roll out during the day or something.
  • linksdad #26 12 months ago

Bit late now, I finished it last week. Great while it lasted and all but I'm not in a hurry to go back.
  • Xardan #27 12 months ago

Why is everyone lauding this as great value?

Do you realise this is all content withheld from retail release to give incentives to pre-order from specific places?

I bought the game at lauch but now i have to pay more for this content because i didnt pre-order at a certain place.
  • ruddiger7 #28 12 months ago

they should have an alternate more happy ending dlc
  • tomjoadsghost #29 12 months ago

Isnt it weird how if this was a one time code included in the package it would be 17.5 kinds of evil and 9 kinds of stupid but this way everythings just peachy.
  • Mayhem64 #30 12 months ago

@Xardan - there were two desks afaik removed from the actual game as the size was spiralling onto six discs for the 360! Or one Blu-Ray. We might see some of that as DLC.
  • TZac #31 12 months ago

Although this DOES sound like really good value in general. Its a lot of dlc for the price but considering it was all ready when the game shipped it should be free with the game. Theyre just charging us 6 pounds extra for what could have been included in the shipped disc and we're lapping it up. Great price for a DLC pack if it was released a few months later.

    @ tomjoadsghost

The difference being that it's not a an online pass for MP, but for a discount for content which they are going to be charging for anyway, regardless of whether it's a second hand purchase or not.

But of course, that won't stop silly little comments from users like you commenting on supposed 'fickle' gamers, while not actually applying any thought.
  • ToastyElfAnt #34 12 months ago

You get everything it says you get. Just get on the game and press x for marketplace and download everything that's on the list. You don't have to buy any of it.
