LA Noire Reefer Madness DLC dated

Plus: Rockstar clarifies the Pass.

Rockstar has confirmed the contents of the Rockstar Pass and dated the "Reefer Madness" DLC case for 12th July.

No additional details for the Nicholson Electroplating Disaster and Reefer Madness cases were given, other than that they are inspired by "famous" noir fiction and real-life crimes "taken straight from the headlines".

The Rockstar Pass buys all DLC for 800 Microsoft Points or $10 (PSN) - a 50 per cent saving on what you'd pay for all seven add-ons separately.

That's a time-limited price; the Rockstar Pass will cost 960 MSP or $12 from 14th June. But that's still a 40 per cent saving.

Those seven new add ons - four cases, two suits and a collectible challenge - are:

  • Chicago Lightning Detective Suit (Social Club only) - May 17
  • L.A. Noire Rockstar Pass (limited-time discount price) - May 31
  • "The Naked City" DLC case - May 31 (320 MSP / $4)
  • "A Slip of The Tongue" DLC case - May 31 (320 MSP / $4)
  • Broderick Detective Suit and Gun - May 31 (80 MSP / $1)
  • Sharpshooter Detective Suit and Gun - May 31 (80 MSP / $1)
  • The Badge Pursuit Challenge - May 31 (160 MSP / $2)
  • Chicago Piano Machine Gun (free community unlock) - May 31
  • L.A. Noire Rockstar Pass (standard price) - June 14
  • "Nicholson Electroplating Disaster" DLC case - June 21
  • "Reefer Madness" DLC case - July 12

Members of the Rockstar Social Club have been given a Chicago Lightning Detective Suit for free.

Which is better, L.A. Noire on 360 or PS3?

No thanks. I've not finished the campaign yet and to be honest I'm thinking of trading it in. Very disappointed by this game.

    Not me!

    GOTY thus far imo.

I think the 8 that EG gave it was spot on. It's good but not great. I thought Red Dead was better. With a sequel or two it'll be up in the 9's.
  • darkmorgado #4 12 months ago

Brilliant game. Can't wait to get stuck into the new cases. GOTY so far.
  • Deckard1 #5 12 months ago

Fucking love it. I'll have me some of this.
  • Toothball #6 12 months ago

I was enjoying the game until it forced me to do street crimes instead of solving cases. If I wanted to shoot people I'd be playing GTA or something. I wanted to solve crimes rather than chase them. I'll get back to it in a while I guess, but all my early momentum disappeared after a certain case on the Homicide desk.
  • landlock #7 12 months ago

Good but not great for me still I want to play the extra cases.
  • Kazzahdrane #8 12 months ago

Only about halfway through but I'd definitely up for more LAN!
  • CaptainQuint #9 12 months ago

I just wish they'd had the balls to be a proper detective game without feeling the need to cater for the CoD crowd by including regular action shootouts in which Phelps kills more people than soldiers fighting in the front line. I mean - why bother with interrogation at all?

And don't even get me started on those bits...

1 - Walk around until chime sounds. Press X. Press X.
2 - Chat to witness and/or suspect and hope you found all items at stage 1
3 - Proceed to next location and repeat stages 1 and 2
4 - He's made a break for it! Run / drive after him. Case closed.
    5 - out of 10

The game likes to parade itself as being smart and 'grown-up'; when in fact it's the complete opposite.

It's as dumb as GTA - but that series NEVER took itself seriously; unlike LA Noire.

Good game, but by the time I've done the main campaign I'll probably be done with it. This game doesn't play well in large doses, the cases become routine, repetitive and forgettable way too fast, which doesn't help with the last case of the homicide desk. Less, more fleshed out cases would have suited it better.
  • ronuds #15 12 months ago

$4 a case isn't very good value, imo. The game would have been over $100 if they charged the same price per case that came with it.
  • obidanshinobi #16 12 months ago

This game annoys me in that you know certain suspects are innocent yet you have to find them "guilty" to get a good rating. Certain circumstantial evidence is often regarded as case breaking hard evidence with a suspect labelled guilty as a result ie Mark Bishop. When that case ended I thought "is that it ?" what actual hard evidence is there that would get a convictiion ?
And yes I know its the 40's but come on, I'd like to feel that I've put the right man behind bars through a thorough investigation with hard evidence proving their guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. In that sense LA Noire leaves me unsatisfied.

In case no-one has seen the original Reefer Madness US propaganda film, here's a trailer for it; ^_^

I wonder if people complaining about street crimes know you can do them all in a separate mode? Just ignore them while playing the main game.

Anyway I'm loving this game and almost at the end, so I shall be purchasing 1 rockstar pass.

Was expecting a modern Grim Fandango, but it seems as though there's too much hand-holding going on. I enjoyed it - but not as much as I thought it would. I wanted something more like a procedural cop drama - where you find the right clues and use them to nail the right or wrong suspect - but a lot of the time even if you find two perps and grill em, and arrest one, it turns out later that neither of them did it, which makes the whole investigation aspect seem useless. I have hopes great things can be done with the engine, and the car chases were enjoyable, but Rockstar really need to take a look at how they do shooting in games. Red Dead aside, their 3rd person shooting/cover mechanics are pretty bad in their games.
  • BBIAJ #20 12 months ago

L.A. Noire never "forces" you to do the street crimes, not once.

Unless you feel a compulsive urge to twat the "A" button every time the prompt is flagged up of course.

But then, that's your own fault for being a dumbass I suppose!
  • brseg #21 12 months ago

Definitely waiting for 'complete/goty' version (for sub-20 quid). Nice move, publishers.
  • nuanimal #22 12 months ago

So glad I didn't buy this.

As I've said before, developers that provide DLC, are encouraging me to wait for the GOTY editions.

    Edit: So I've been negged?

    @Geeza2020 #26

Usually certain developers will push GOTYs more so than others. Rockstar is one of them.

    Red Dead Redemption GOTY

    Grand Theft Auto 4 Complete

Don't get me wrong, I think it looks a great game - but DLC makes me cynical about buying games fisrt-hand, and waiting for the re-release instead.

    @Thamuhacha

My review of generic first person shooter number 579 that came out last week alongside two others:
1 - run around until enemy pops up. Press right trigger.
    1
    1
    1
    1
    2 - watch rehashed global conspiracy/war cutscene
3 - proceed to next level and repeat step 1
4 - game ends. There's always multiplayer (repeat step 1 forever more)
    5 - out of 10
  • geeza2020 #24 12 months ago

how do you know there will be a GOTY version?

edit: cool yeah, dont answer the question, just neg me you bunch of fucking flaming faggots

    /sigh

Sure you don't have to do the street crimes, but at least it's a break in the routine. I'm still determined to finish more then 1 street crime without killing the suspects. They almost always fight to the death, you're not allowed to flank and tackle them, they never run out of bullets, and if you finally give up and shoot them in the leg they instantly die. In the meantime my partner gets shot about 10 times and is still running back and forth between cover.
  • BBIAJ #26 12 months ago

    It's Rockstar, go figure.
  • God_Octo #27 12 months ago

Will the soundtrack be coming out too then? My pre-order from play.com apparently came with it, but I haven't got it yet. I assume it's because PSN is down, but the game keeps scanning for DLC when you start it up.
  • DiamondIce #28 12 months ago

If I didn't like the game I would probably refrain from constantly going on about it.

But I do like it so 800 points for three extra missions (I already have the Naked City one) is bloody great news.

  • cowell #29 12 months ago

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but some people are riding this game really hard. It definitely ain't perfect but it's still a huge step in the right direction and easily in the top 10% of games this generation. I'm enjoying it thoroughly.
  • CaptainQuint #30 12 months ago

I can think of twenty other better games this gen.

The game is beautiful to behold - the attention to visual details is quite astonishing and the musical score is a nice tip of the hat to Goldsmith's Chinatown.

But there's so many other things wrong with this game that those accomplished qualities are easy to overlook, unfortunately.
  • DiamondIce #31 12 months ago

Don't worry about this news then.
