Trials HD lifetime sales reach 2 million

The RedLynx effect.

Super-duper Xbox Live Arcade stunt bike game Trials HD has passed 2 million sales, maker RedLynx has announced.

That number includes sales of Trials HD and the Big Pack and Big Thrills expansions.

Those sales cement Trials HD as one of the best ever selling games on the Live Arcade platform. And so it should be, after earning 9/10 on Eurogamer.

Finnish studio RedLynx is understandably revved about reaching the milestone.

"We couldn't be more pleased with the success, and we'd like to thank all our fans for their continuous support and enthusiasm for our game," was the measured response of CEO Tero Virtala.

The ever enthusiastic Antti Ilvessuo, who came up with the idea for Trials 11 years ago, was "naturally quite pleased".

"But the most important thing for us is to continue making excellent games that other gamers will like. Whatever the future holds remains to be seen, but currently we have six teams working on six games, so I can guarantee there are other great RedLynx games in the works. "

Those games are MotoHeroz for Wii, DrawRace 2 for iPhone and 1000 Heroz for iPhone.

What are the other three? Is one Trials HD 2? Not necessarily, as RedLynx has a decade of concepts tried and tested as web games or N-Gage games to draw upon.

I flew to Finland in 2009 to meet Antti Ilvessuo and Tero Virtala and the RedLynx gang. I had them pose with inflatable cacti, guns and teddybear bear heads.

Did you see these secrets in Trials HD?

Easily one of the best (and most addictive) games I've ever played.

Good for them, it is great game, they deserve it.

Delighted for them. It's an absolute gem.

Even though I often love it and hate it in equal measure. Usually during the same course.

I fucking hate this game. Not because it sucks mind you, but rather because I suck. IT MAKES ME SOOOOO ANGRY!!!!

6 teams working on 6 games. Wow. Good on them for capitalising on the capital, so to speak.

    Hooray. Well-deserved success there.

Though it's lucky they're not liable for broken xbox controllers or they'd be bankrupt!

It's one of those games that you have love and hate. The odd thing is I spend 99% of the time hating it, as I repeatedly fail, but the moment of sheer joy from achieving whatever I'm trying to do (knock a mate off the top of my Friends Leaderboard usually) seems to make up for it tenfold.

Genuine classic game, I suspect when this generation is looked back on in the decades to come it'll be in all the top tens, and pretty high up.

Edit: I love the comments from the developers. I sometimes wonder if the Finns are constitutionally incapable of showing enthusiasm. Kimi Raikkonen would be proud! (But you wouldn't be able to tell.)

Well deserved! Still gets played almost every day in this household, although mostly by my son who absolutely adores the minigames. Definitely a "just one more go" game.

Well deserved. One of my favourite XBLA games - I made my own review of it at a point, and gave it a 9.0 score. The main reason is its addictiveness. Worse than most other substances I can think of, barring Coffee.

I echo others praise for the quality fun provided by Trials HD. It's excellent, although I do think it would probably have been an even greater sales success, had they not gone the total exclusivity route. I only think it can be a good thing, for all platform owners to be able to enjoy the sequel, if one was made. Trials HD joins Super Meat Boy, as a no reservation choice for recommending to anyone with the hardware to play.

Beats nearly all full price releases hands down imo. An absolute classic in the purest form. Them gold medals are tricky little buggers on hard and extreme mind you.

we need Trials HD 2 PLEASE!!
  • zubnut #14 1 year ago

Agree it's an amazing game but so frustrating at sane time.

Wish they'd opened up the user created levels feature a bit for those of us less social types, so maybe that's something they can work into the (inevitable) sequel.

The best game on 360. I hope they put some of their well earned money into creating another Trials game soon!

    Just. 14. More. Goes.

Why is it dark outside? Where did this long white beard come from?

    Not again!
