Trials HD lifetime sales reach 2 million
The RedLynx effect.
Super-duper Xbox Live Arcade stunt bike game Trials HD has passed 2 million sales, maker RedLynx has announced.
That number includes sales of Trials HD and the Big Pack and Big Thrills expansions.
Those sales cement Trials HD as one of the best ever selling games on the Live Arcade platform. And so it should be, after earning 9/10 on Eurogamer.
Finnish studio RedLynx is understandably revved about reaching the milestone.
"We couldn't be more pleased with the success, and we'd like to thank all our fans for their continuous support and enthusiasm for our game," was the measured response of CEO Tero Virtala.
The ever enthusiastic Antti Ilvessuo, who came up with the idea for Trials 11 years ago, was "naturally quite pleased".
"But the most important thing for us is to continue making excellent games that other gamers will like. Whatever the future holds remains to be seen, but currently we have six teams working on six games, so I can guarantee there are other great RedLynx games in the works. "
Those games are MotoHeroz for Wii, DrawRace 2 for iPhone and 1000 Heroz for iPhone.
What are the other three? Is one Trials HD 2? Not necessarily, as RedLynx has a decade of concepts tried and tested as web games or N-Gage games to draw upon.
I flew to Finland in 2009 to meet Antti Ilvessuo and Tero Virtala and the RedLynx gang. I had them pose with inflatable cacti, guns and teddybear bear heads.

Even though I often love it and hate it in equal measure. Usually during the same course.

Though it's lucky they're not liable for broken xbox controllers or they'd be bankrupt!

Genuine classic game, I suspect when this generation is looked back on in the decades to come it'll be in all the top tens, and pretty high up.
Edit: I love the comments from the developers. I sometimes wonder if the Finns are constitutionally incapable of showing enthusiasm. Kimi Raikkonen would be proud! (But you wouldn't be able to tell.)

Wish they'd opened up the user created levels feature a bit for those of us less social types, so maybe that's something they can work into the (inevitable) sequel.
