The Witcher 2 patch 1.1 problems
Game launcher "does not work properly".
The downloadable content option in The Witcher 2 game launcher "does not work properly, please don't use it".
That's the advice of game developer CD Projekt, which addressed patch 1.1 criticisms on its blog. Add-ons for Witcher 2 can be downloaded independently by emailing special addresses specified on the website.
"The Downloadable content option in the Game Launcher does not work properly, please don't use it," sated CD Projekt.
"This option (same as Register Game) still doesn't work properly, but for every resulting problem we provide you with a workaround.
"Currently the only problem remaining is with the Language Packs. We will provide you with a solution for this issue as soon as possible. Registration through the Launcher will be fixed in the upcoming days, and our goal is to have it work perfectly in patch 1.2."
That second patch is planned for next week.
Patch 1.1 was released last night to rectify many early bugs identified by the community within the superb role-playing game. The patch also made Witcher 2 a rare DRM-free PC game.
"So what's next?" the developer continued. "First, we have set up our own team to improve the server structure and repair the above mentioned game registration. A team is also working to finalise our new forum. We will launch these services very soon. For sure, you will be informed as soon as they are ready here.
"Then, by the end of next week you can expect some more free stuff available online.
"Stay tuned, especially for our online conference scheduled for the 2nd of June. Exciting new announcements are coming!"

Apparently it'll be addressed 'no later than patch 1.3' but that could be as much as 2 weeks away. My advice, if the game runs fine, don't patch.
Also reports of stability being impacted and DLC problems not having been fixed depending on how far into certain side quests of Act 1 you are.
Great, great game - shame it has these niggling issues.

All future patches will most likely involve a change to that pack file so Steam users have many more 9GB+ downloads to look forward too! Me included.

The patch worked just great for me, as did the lovely free new suits DLC. CDP had my cash, now they have my respect and my gaming heart to match.

Yo dawg, I herd you like patching, so I put a bug in your patch so you can patch while you patch.

To those commenting about repeatedly downloading the steam version, you can set it to not update automatically as the game still plays perfectly.

"To those commenting about repeatedly downloading the steam version, you can set it to not update automatically as the game still plays perfectly. "
From what others are reporting Steam deletes the 9GB file FIRST before downloading the newer version. So some people have been unable to stop that download and still have a game they can play.
For those on slower speed lines and/or bandwidth caps I can understand their unhappiness at CDP implementing a single 9GB file in the Steam version given how Steam updates.
I doubt a high percentage of people set every game they download to not automatically update as auto-patching is one of the benefits of Steam.

Mind you, I find Steam to be a bit flaky at times as I've had several instances where I've tried to install Steamworks games from disc, only for them to start downloading instead. And Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 twice tried to redownload the entire game instead of the smaller patched files. Add to that the annoyance of not being able to install games where you want to like with EVERY other PC game and those inflated prices and Steam is turning out to be very unappealing to me except for the odd sales bargain.

You've actually cleared something up for me - I had no idea why Steam always had such massive patches. I basically stopped playing Dawn of War 2 when it required a 6gig patch as I didn't understand why when the whole thing was probably less than that - so it's downloading the whole thing again, but repackaged?!
Thankfully I bought my copy of the Witcher from PC World - outrageous I know, but I happened to be walking past and it was £24.99 for the edition with the extra dvds and all that other stuff, so I couldn't really say no!

I got an €300 PC with a €30 graphics card and the game already runs smooth on high settings.

"The installation program will ask you for an activation code. However, as the game is now DRM-free, you can enter anything in the relevant field."
Hi-five CDP!
The game has been pretty solid for me so far (just started act 3), the only problem I've had is not being able to download DLC, but a second playthrough is pretty much guaranteed at this stage, so that's no biggy!

The game should patch itself automatically when you reinstall, so no need to separately install this patch... (or are you getting this message then as well?...)

The above link is for all the pre-order DLC. Released for free and 100% endorsed by CD Projekt.

I have to restart the game about 5 times in 2 hours play for frame rate getting progressively worse, some controls not responding anymore and various sound glitches. The game is awesome, but the way it runs should not be acceptable.
At least it hasn't downright crashed yet, but losing the ability to swing your sword mid fight pretty much hast the same result.
Run into town, "You there, sheathe your sword" "Sorry I can't, I'm pressing 2 honestly it's not working" "Sheathe your sword now or else" "Careful don't hit me, Quen is still active for another 20 seconds" ZZZZAP "Men we're under attack!" Bah restart game.

I have had the problem a few times, when all you can do is move, everything else freezes, including looking around.
Be sure not to save during that time, i did and had to go about a hour back to redo everything, usually restarting it from a previous save fixes it, i just make sure to save regular now.
