Sony: PSN maintenance next week

Still no mention of the PS Store.

Sony has announced planned PSN maintenance for this coming Tuesday, 31st May.

The service will be offline from 7pm that evening until 1am Wednesday morning, wrote Sony Community Team member "RabidWalker" on the European PS community forum.

During that time you won't be able to use:

  • PC Registration
  • Console Storefront
  • PS3 Account Management
  • PS3 Network Account Registration
  • PSP Network Account Registration
  • Qriocity Account Management

However, if you're already signed in you will stay connected. You won't be able to use the above services, though.

The post doesn't mention PlayStation Store. Will the PS3's virtual shop finally re-open on that day?

    My jaw just dropped...

...it's the first time I've ever seen PSN maintenance announced more than 48 hours in advance :p
  • RampagedDeath #2 1 year ago

They said the end of May so I bet this maintenance is to put the store up too. If not I'm not going to be very happy.
  • Teamallstar #3 1 year ago

    Really?!?

It only just came back!! What the fuck were they doing for three weeks!!
  • rockavitch #4 1 year ago

I agree, if it's announced this much in advance then it must be some major maintenance so it could be the store going back up after all.
  • M_of_the_sys #5 1 year ago

    Cue mock outrage.
  • Nevfx #6 1 year ago

I know it doesnt SAY the store will be back, but if you tie this together with what they said bout end of May, it would MAKE sense for the store be back.

However as ever witrh Sony, no guarantees. They had maintence this week too.... Well whatever. We'll see what happens wont we?

Theyll want to make sure the store is back up before E3, just so that they have less questions to answer reguarding PSN. Im sure they will talk about it but there going to want to be concentrating on there future products.
  • joelstinton #9 1 year ago

I wonder if they got some things lined up for E3 just to ease the pain of the last month or so, the store and just puting in some framework for some new features. PSP/PS3 connectivity testing for NGP arrival and perhaps that activity log that features in the NGP trailers, making it cross platform standardisation etc. A little bit like the MS dash update.

Hold the Press! It does say 'Console Storefront' will be unacessable! i can only assume the store dront is the psn store. simples!
  • Snowymonk #11 1 year ago

I agree with the consensus so far in that it will be the point at which the store returns. I was disappointed that it didnt return as hoped yesterday but I would much rather Sony got the implementation right than rushed.

    /pedant mode

If the network is out until 1am and the outage is to allow the store to return, then it wont be back until the early morning hours of 1st June. Doesnt this break the previously given promise of store back by the end of May?

    /pedant mode off

To be fair on Sony, they never said the end of May 2011.

Why is it always Europe gets shafted by maintenance when people are most likely to be playing after work?
  • RawNinjaKid #15 1 year ago

The US is bigger market (and definitely a more important one) for Video Games; that's why!

I like how nobody is mentioning the fact all the people that will be trying to download the free games might overload the system too. theyl have to do a stage by stage Store implementation.

Haven't previous store upgrades just been chalked up as scheduled maintenance? I remember a lot of talk of scheduled maintenance as being a sign of possible store upgrades. If so, it seems likely as it's bang on their target time for reactivation. If it goes well, perhaps they can end it early and open it bang on 23:59:59 on 31st May.

In this case, it'd be nicer for them to be a bit more transparent. But if they encountered any problems with it whilst sending it live it would be a bigger embarrassment than just keeping schtum and launching a couple of days late. One makes them look like they've botched it, the other just looks like they're still testing it.

That is, of course, if they _are_ relaunching the store then...

C&VG says the Japanese and south east Asian stores are going back up tomorrow, so maybe Tuesday will be Europe's turn?
  • Zozzilla #19 1 year ago

    "Console Storefront"

...So it technically does mention the PSN Store, just disambiguously.
  • RawNinjaKid #20 1 year ago

"Console Storefront" - well that at the moment just prompts the maintenance notice. We won't be able to do that!?

  • jablonski #21 1 year ago

    They don't learn do they.
Just be open and honest you fucking clowns

"If the network is out until 1am and the outage is to allow the store to return, then it wont be back until the early morning hours of 1st June. Doesnt this break the previously given promise of store back by the end of May? "

Depends on how you look at it. the end of May announcement, like all previous updates were first made on the US blog and then "translated" to the European blog, and this maintenance both starts and finished on the 31st in the US, so technically they're keeping the promise, at least in the US. I imagine there will be much disappointment here in the Eurozone though as we've received less information, the information we have received has often been late and if this maintenance is the return of the store we'll get the store back in June and not May as originally outlined.

Like most I was hoping it would have been back much sooner than this, I upgraded my HDD once the login was available only to find that I need to reactivate every game and DLC I own, which requires store access. Then there's things like online passes, reobtaining the DLC I had to delete, games I want to buy, PS+ content etc.
  • Beano #24 1 year ago

If it's a similar maintenance like last week, we will still be able to sign-in and play online in the maintenance period, but just not change password or access Account Management. A small inconvenience IMO.
  • metallicorphan #25 1 year ago

@Golgo-C&VG says the Japanese and south east Asian stores are going back up tomorrow, so maybe Tuesday will be Europe's turn?

that is actually for online play, the Japanese Government blocked PSN going back up last week that came up for everyone else in the world,so tomorrow they are hoping Japanese are able to play online again...it's not the playstation stores
  • Snowymonk #26 1 year ago

Here's hoping that the reason for the extended delay in bringing back the store is that it is going to be a major update / overhaul to compete against MS?

i.e. they could have brought the previous one back weeks ago, but have instead gone for the update the look, feel and usability of the store. Hence the reason why they call it Console store front rather than store.

(living in delusion, but at least I am happy there)

The only thing I've seen Sony say is that they are aiming to have it back by the end of May. I haven't read them saying "It will definitely be back on the 31st"

  • obidanshinobi #35 1 year ago

This is really getting on my tits now and I don't even play online.
I can't even change my frikkin PSN password, the link from the e-mail I was sent to change it keeps saying there is a problem or the request has timed out, WTF ? And whats with the "Enter the following letters and numbers in the box below:" is that an o or a 0, capitals or not etc ? Is this really fuckin necassary ? Bit late now for a pointless piece of security like that.
If any one knows of another way I can change my password it would be greatly appreciated.
  • X201 #36 1 year ago

    @obidanshinobi
    PS3 or PSP?
Give us something to work with.

The password emails are only valid for 3 hours.
If yours has expired than you need to get a new one.

    Edit:

    Follow the instructions here

@xero521: No, the developers disabled the online activation via a patch to allow PS3 owner to play online now. Just start the game and you should be able to play online.

God knows what this bunch of clowns have been doing during the past 6 weeks with fixing PSN.

Two service downtimes during peak gaming time in the same number of weeks is becoming facial especially when you consider the previous 4 weeks absence.

There is a reason that all my game pre-orders for June have swapped over to the 360 instead of using both my systems for new releases. Sony you are fortunate to have Infamous and Uncharted coming.
  • Lucodeath #41 1 year ago

Just blame the faggot tossers who hacked psn.

    Console Storefront

The post doesn't mention PlayStation Store.

It does, if you know how to read.
