The Witcher 2 patch 1.1 delayed

Dev "encountered some problems".

The upcoming Witcher 2 patch 1.1 has been delayed.

"The good news is that the patch is ready," read an update on The Witcher website. "The bad news is that we have encountered some problems with the server infrastructure, making downloading DLC impossible.

"We want to apologise to our fans for not meeting our target of delivering the patch last night."

Patch 1.1 aims to fix a number of bugs as well as boost game performance by up to 30 per cent.

CD Projekt told Eurogamer that a second patch addressing yet more problems will be offered next week as well.

The Witcher 2 has been heralded as a role-playing great. A console version of The Witcher 2 is expected to be announced at E3 next month.

Eurogamer awarded The Witcher 2 a huge 9/10.

The Witcher 2 was also our game of the week last week.

    Boourns!
    Couldn't they just be all old fashioned and allow you to download the patch without using the broken launcher menu?...

    The performance gains are said to be 5-30%. The higher value being for those who have the retail version which shipped with last minute, poorly implemented (and forced on the developer) Securom DRM.

    Still think they should release the DLC and normal patch separately - unless the issues are intertwined. But they don't want to 'break their promise' to fans that the first patch would fix everything they previously stated.

    The patch was apparently live earlier as someone from Sweden on the Guru3D.com forum managed to install it. However, there is a problem with installing it if you already have the Troll Trouble DLC installed and it requires you to delete the Troll_Trouble.dlc or .dzip files prior to installing the patch. This may have been taken down now though so the developers can fix it although I find it hard to believe that no-one thought to test the patch with the DLC already installed! :o

    P.S. The patch issues exist because v1.1 includes the Troll Trouble DLC in it.

    @Darren - I managed to grab a copy myself (there's links in a thread on the GOG forums) but have yet to install it. Don't have the DLC so it shouldn't be an issue but I don't know what sort of problems it might cause when they finally release the real thing. Tempted but holding out for the DLC mainly for my second playthrough as that means I can finally complete two of the sidequests in Act 1...

    Boourns means you approve or an in favour of something. It's the opposite of booing.

    Well thats ok, CD Projekt are good guys. At least they patch their games unlike many developers.

    Considering the amount of effort CDP invested in the first game - most notable with the EE - I'm confident the vast majority of issues will get sorted in the long run.
    Rather they delay a day or two rather than release a patch that requires an additional patch to sort out.

    @Vitor

    Could you post a link to where you got it from please?

    It won't let me download any DLC, says pre-order code is invalid. And the page it takes me to after registering won't load.

    Looked fantastic?

    I'm a complete RPG noob (only RPG's i've ever really liked are the Mass Effect Games, the first Dragon Age and also Zelda games(i know they're not RPG's but whatever...)) but i've seen so much praise about this game i'm tempted to buy it.

    Is this game RPG-Noob safe? I don't mind a little challenge but i don't want to be (too) overwhelmed

    @ISmoke
    It's a really amazing game, especially if you're familiar with any of the lore (play the first game or read the original books) but it's not an easy game. The combat is really punishing and it forces you to quickly adapt to using skills and tactics that the game makes no attempt to teach you.
  • Darren #17 1 year ago

    @ISmoke - Witcher 2 has an Easy difficulty so you'll be OK provided you don't get bogged down with the opening sections which rely on your reading the journal/manual as things aren't always very well explained. You might want to try the original Witcher Enhanced Edition too as its still very good, is a great introduction to the Geralt character and can be bought for a fiver these days.
  • Darren #18 1 year ago

    P.S. You can switch the difficulty at any time if, say, you find Easy to be too easy.
  • ISmoke #19 1 year ago

    Yeah fudge it, i'll buy it. Games can only get good ratings for one reason. i bought myself a nice new 120hz monitor and some Corsiar speakers yesterday so this will be the first game i play on it.
  • aarlev #20 1 year ago

    @ISmoke: Definitely buy it! You wont regret it. It's quite a difficult game until you get the hang of it. Or maybe other games have just gotten too easy. ;-) Easy in TW2 is really easy though, so if you get stuck just lower the difficulty on the fly.

    IT'S OUT
    btw. They removed DRM already from the retail versions.
