Agent, Max Payne 3 "still in development"

Take-Two confirms MIA projects are alive.

Agent and Max Payne 3 are still alive and well at Rockstar Games, publisher Take-Two has confirmed.

Responding to a question during an investor call earlier today, CEO Strauss Zelnick stated that both titles are "still in development", though didn't offer any indication as to when exactly we might see them.

1970s spy escapade Agent was first announced back at E3 2009 as a PlayStation 3 exclusive but little has been heard of it since.

A Winter 2009 launch was initially mooted for Max Payne 3 but the release keeps on slipping. However, a few new details and two screens offered proof of life last month.

Nobody heard a thing about L.A. Noire for a long time, and look at how well that turned out.

Not sure how MIA Max Payne is supposed to be when I read a huge preview of it in Edge last month.
  • spongebob #5 1 year ago

Yeah, how MIA is Max Payne 3, when even EG has ran new pictures of it recently and EDGE did a huge cover feature it just a month ago?
  • darkmorgado #6 1 year ago

Since when was MP3 MIA? EDGE have a huge feature on it in their current issue and it's the cover star.

EDIT: Ah, others have beaten me to it!

This is why i dont think GTA V exists

because Sony said that Rockstar NORTH is making Agent, and we all know that Rockstar NORTH makes the GTA games
  • darkmorgado #9 1 year ago

I dunno, I think GTAV is in development. Maybe not at R* North, but I think it's being actively worked on. It's one of the biggest franchises in the industry, and it's been a good few years since IV came out. Plus with the references in other titles, and the tech being pioneered in other rockstar games, makes me think that a lot of tech in rockstar games is being used as a proof of concept for integration into future GTA games.

This is my hypothesis (from 09): R* offered exclusivity of GTA IV DLC for a while or exclusivity of Agent (for a while?) to both MS and Sony and MS must have bid more GTA IV DLC, landing Sony with Agent.
Not being negative or anything but think R* are amongst the finest in the industry and have probably done more in 1 decade to gaming that others could ever imagine. The day GTA III dropped, the day gaming changed. Great talent and hope Agent turns out to be as good as their last few titles.

    @Mnia

Or Agent is Sony's payment from R* for the LA Nore IP, which Sony poured many millions into before selling to R*?

How can people be excited about The Agent when next to nothing is known about it other than the title and the exclusivity?!

Whereas I m more keen on Max Payne 3 as we know a lot more, bullet time and all that thanks to the previous games, and previous reveals of seeing an older Max. Probably this would be matching the ages of most gamers who were reared on the first game.

"How can people be excited about The Agent when next to nothing is known about it other than the title and the exclusivity?!"

    Because of R*'s track record.

    Max 2012, Agent 2013, GTA 2014?
  • RodHull #15 1 year ago

Wouldn't be at all surprised if Agent goes multiplatform, R* seem to have gone off platform exclusivity of late.
  • mkreku #16 1 year ago

@RodHull: Depends on how you see it. They stopped making PC games, it seems, so they are console exclusive now >:(

From what I heard, SCEA put twenty million Dollars into LA Noire before a deal was made with Rock Star for them to take over as publishers and acquire the IP. Agent is being made in return for that huge sum that Sony originally invested.

It's unlikely Agent will ever appear on another platform, twenty million was enough to budget Uncharted 2, Sony would expect full exclusivity for that investment.
  • God_Octo #18 1 year ago

Agent is PS3 exclusive due to, as many have said, Sony stopping funding on LA Noire and Rockstar offering this instead. It would be nice to seem something of it other than a logo, but I bet that if we do get anything, it'll only be a teaser trailer that shows nothing at all.

it's taking an afwul long time to give max his hair back, that's what I'm thinking.
  • Lee_Morris #20 1 year ago

Max Payne 3 just had an EDGE cover story last month, so it's hardly MIA.
  • beatwolf #21 1 year ago

If you had read last months EDGE, you would now that Max Payne ist still very much in development.!!
