LA Noire "very appealing to women, too"

Team Bondi title not just for men.

L.A. Noire isn't just for men playing by themselves, according to developer Team Bondi.

Testing has seen people playing together to pool brain power.

Writer and director Brendan McNamara told Gamespot L.A. Noire "appeals to a really broad church".

Despite the game being exclusively single-player, NcNamara reported tests that found multiple people playing together.

"One of the phenomenons we've seen a lot when we watch people play the game is that they'll play it, or their wife or their girlfriend will play it," McNamara explained. People play L.A. Noire "like watching TV."

"So far it's been very appealing to women, too, which is great. I think women are pretty good at reading whether people are lying or not."

Oli Welsh confessed an 8/10 score for the title in Eurogamer's L.A. Noire review. Game's out today in the UK.

L.A. Noire's cinematic first 15 minutes.

    Women like games shocker.
  • NunianVonFuch #3 1 year ago

Yes my female friends are certainly interested in it. Because it's a very good game and they're finished with Portal 2, CoD: BlOps, Resonance of Fate and Fallout 3. Gender profiling FTL.

I can vouch for this as my mother popped in last night, saw what I was playing and immediately took an interest in the crime solving aspects of the game. In fact, she guessed correctly the outcome of the case I was solving. Maybe Phelps should have a female partner?

People play L.A. Noire "like watching TV." Hence women will like it?

Her: You're not hogging the telly to play your silly games again! It's my turn tonight!
Him: But it's not a game, love, it's a brand new TV serial. Starring a hunky cop in a sharp suit who's in that other thing you like.
Her: Ooh alright then, go on.

My missus is so excited about this game that she actually went and bought it - the first time ever she has done that! The last games she played and enjoyed were Spycraft and those old Sierra police detective point and click things....

Could we also get comment on how minorities perceive the game? Or could we just agree that good games are liked by all people.

As a recently converted Jewish Rastafarian (former Muslim New Zealander gypsy) immigrant from Saudi Arabia, awaiting my male to female gender re-assignement surgery - in spite of my genetic disorder where I have the body of a 26 year old for the last 52 years - I too can confirm that I enjoy L.A. Noire.

I really would like to know how they saw me and my girlfriend playing it at home.
Do they have some sort of hidden micro-camera in every copy of L.A. Noire?

Even with my girlfriend's help, I blew my first interrogation merely for "doubting" the witness in the jewellery store. That was the end of that.

Seems a bit of a crude system so far.

Yep - I'm sure they'll love all the wife beating!

I knew my Mrs would probably dig this. I showed her the trailer a few months ago and she's been asking me about it ever since. Very unusual for someone who's played little more than iPhone games, New Super Mario Bros Wii and a bit of Portal 2 co-op.

She's more than happy to watch me play games when the story is interesting. She found Deadly Premonition intriguing and hilarious to watch. I'm sure she'll be able to contribute with observations whilst grilling suspects on this one.

Well, fair dues to the man - I bought it today, and my girlfriend called earlier to forbid me - forbid me, I say - to even stick the disc in before she gets home from work...
  • Zozzilla #25 1 year ago

Wow, a gritty crime game that appeals to women, whatever next?

Well I bought it, not played it yet due to this whole bug thing but I'm sure I'll love it. People are still shocked I actually PLAY games, let alone things like this.

I always love the choice of verbs(always related to the game in hand) used by EG to emphasize the reviewing act :-).

Will let my gf watch but she can not touch the controller, as last time she did she just laughed like a crazy person as she ploughed a car into a wall during gta 4.

Seeing how many times this game has been compared to Heavy Rain, perhaps they took Cliffy B.'s remark that HR should have been marketed for women to heart.
  • metalangel #34 1 year ago

The missus really enjoyed the trailers... however, after Fahrenheit promised her detective thrills and instead gave her pseudo-Matrix bullshit with added corpse sex, she's a bit wary now. Having just gotten to disc 2 of LA Noire (less than 24 hours after unwrapping the game) I think her concerns are unfounded, for a change.
  • Dannyboy1100 #35 1 year ago

I dont see how it can be appealing to anyone.

It looks terrible and will most likely break your console
  • half #36 1 year ago

Well I can fully back that. Being a woman myself this instantly made me think about Heavy Rain & instantly got me interested. I plan on getting it, just not sure which platform to get it on yet, my Xbox 360 or PS3. I guess we have the so called 'womens intuition' when it comes to reading other people.
  • Murton #37 1 year ago

"those old Sierra police detective point and click things...."

The series in question was "Police Quest" and was awesome. Wonder who owns the IP now, would love to see HD remakes from TellTale, they're already the busiest developer on the planet with almost 10 projects already backed up, but if LA Noire sells half as well as commentators are suggesting it will then it'll be more than worth it for them.
  • gjgjg #38 1 year ago

Does you gf/wife play with it, while you play? * snigger
  • trubadman #46 1 year ago

I have only played the first set of cases but I have to agree with Biker_Bob_1971's second post. I wouldn't say it was completely boring, but for me it seemed repetitive already, maybe I'm not used to the linearity in a Rockstar game. Anyways, I hope that as the plot develops I get sucked in more. People are comparing this to Heavy Rain, but from what I've seen so far I have to disagree, for me the only similarity is the limits of what you can do and this can either be a positive/negative thing depending on the context. I loved heavy rain btw!
