Uncharted NGP set between first two games

"Most likely" interacts with Uncharted 3.

The Next Generation Portable Uncharted game takes place between Uncharted 1 and Uncharted 2, Naughty Dog has revealed.

In an interview with gameblog.fr, translated for Eurogamer by Eurogamer.fr, Naughty Dog co-president Christophe Balestra said Uncharted NGP will "most likely" feature interactions with Uncharted 3, also out later this year.

The story is described as "parallel". In Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, Nathan embarks on an adventure with journalist Elena Fisher and the duo end up liking each other quite a bit. At the beginning of Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, Elena is nowhere to be seen. When she eventually turns up, she's not happy with poor old Nate.

Will Uncharted NGP reveal why?

Meanwhile, Balestra said Uncharted NGP features a different vibe and rhythm than the PlayStation 3 games so people can play it in short bursts. This is a handheld game after all.

It's the same category of game, but has more exploration and fewer gunfights, letting people breathe while playing.

Responsibility for development has been passed from Naughty Dog to Sony Bend, whose most recent effort was the impressive Resistance: Retribution on PSP.

One of the development challenges Bend faces, Balestra said, is working with actors, suggesting the portable version features cinematics akin to those seen in its big brother.

"It's the same category of game, but has more exploration and fewer gunfights"

Sold. As if it wasn't sold before.

Agree with captin_carl, although any release of excitement will have to wait until the NGP is priced. Anything above £250 (looking likely) and I'm out. Thankfully Uncharted 3 will be out at the same time so happy days either way.

I thought this was a remake of the first game. Looks like i'll be getting an NGP then.

just waiting for that epic E3 reveal. Watching drake climb that building before the Helicopter Gun chase in UC2, and getting to the top to see that mountain range and Nepalese City was immense, the cries of joys, applause, and excitement was genuine and perhaps one of the best moments of E3 ever.

I'll probably be sold on that alone.

I'm getting this too. It's a true next gen portable (duh ngp), can't wait to see what they have on offer at E3.

I just hope the £500 price tag on an Xperia play doesn't reflect what they want for one of these.

Looking forward to a full E3 unveiling of this one.

this will be amazing, I'm glad naughty dog are involved in the development too, hate playing imitations of home console games on portables. I'm sure ND wont let this happen...

Now that the NGP has twin sticks I'm more than happy to play console style games on the device. It was the ps2 games shoe horned onto the psp that put me off the machine.

There is room for this and idevice games. Angry Birds is fine for a journey into town on the bus but when I travel to London to see my family this Uncharted seems the perfect way to spend a 5 hour train ride.
