Uncharted NGP set between first two games

"Most likely" interacts with Uncharted 3.

The Next Generation Portable Uncharted game takes place between Uncharted 1 and Uncharted 2, Naughty Dog has revealed.

In an interview with gameblog.fr, translated for Eurogamer by Eurogamer.fr, Naughty Dog co-president Christophe Balestra said Uncharted NGP will "most likely" feature interactions with Uncharted 3, also out later this year.

The story is described as "parallel". In Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, Nathan embarks on an adventure with journalist Elena Fisher and the duo end up liking each other quite a bit. At the beginning of Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, Elena is nowhere to be seen. When she eventually turns up, she's not happy with poor old Nate.

Will Uncharted NGP reveal why?

Meanwhile, Balestra said Uncharted NGP features a different vibe and rhythm than the PlayStation 3 games so people can play it in short bursts. This is a handheld game after all.

It's the same category of game, but has more exploration and fewer gunfights, letting people breathe while playing.

Responsibility for development has been passed from Naughty Dog to Sony Bend, whose most recent effort was the impressive Resistance: Retribution on PSP.

One of the development challenges Bend faces, Balestra said, is working with actors, suggesting the portable version features cinematics akin to those seen in its big brother.
