Alan Wake: Night Springs outed – report

Source claims it's an XBLA title.

A new Alan Wake game subtitled Night Springs is currently in development for Xbox Live Arcade at developer Remedy, according to insider sources.

An "extremely trusted" tipster leaked the news to XBLAFans, who claim to have seen screens from the unannounced title.

There's no further details, though those familiar with the 7/10-rated original might remember Night Springs as the name of a paranormal show glimpsed on TV sets dotted throughout the game.

Earlier this month, Remedy confirmed to Eurogamer that a new Alan Wake title is indeed in the works.

"Fans of the franchise will be excited to learn that yes, more Wake is coming! But to be absolutely certain to avoid confusion, this next Wake instalment will not be Alan Wake 2. And neither will it be DLC," said head of franchise development Oskari Hakkinen.

Late last year it put out a recruitment call for motion control experts, leading to speculation that the next Alan Wake game could be Kinect-friendly.

So if it's a XBLA title, it's DLC. Period.

EDIT: Negged for stating the truth. Nice.

Sucks that it's not a full retail "2" in the works :/ but still anything is more then welcome.

Awwww I was looking forward to getting a full retail release, but you know something is better than nothing :)

I'd really like to see a sequel, but Remedy are famous for being slow and steady. Hope it's for Kinect, though. I'd love to see a serious title play on that hardware.
  • AbracadaverAK #6 1 year ago

I still think a sequel is in the works, they've only stated that the next installment won't be Alan Wake 2.

Admitting that they're working on something else is an easy way of diverting attention from the fact that it's being made. The CV that revealed it in the first place was probably still accurate.
  • jonharrispro #7 1 year ago

I agree that if its XBLA it might as well be DLC. Dont think ill be a fan of a Kinect friendly wake game but it looks like thats the way its going.

    Everybody buy this!

Hopefully then they will work on Alan Wake 2.

Yay, literally got to the end of the signal last night!

Could be MS way of see the interest in Alan Wake before signing the check for a second game.

I would be more interested in an 'Address unknown' game

Mirrors are more fun than television indeed!

An intriguing concept, but how exactly would what is basically 'The Twilight Zone: The Game' work?
  • Subdominator #14 1 year ago

I'm guessing it will be something like "You're in the movies" but with Kinect. But it's really sad to see Remedy go straight from AAA developer with a big budget to XBLA and iPhone developer struggling to pay the bills.
  • apoc_reg #15 1 year ago

XBLA! Damn, that's bad bad news
  • coolbritannia #16 1 year ago

I'm with Machiavellian, it's a tester to see how much interest there is for a full sequel.

  • darkmorgado #17 1 year ago

So basically MS telling us to fuck off then? I find it laughable they are making numerous Kinect sequels to bad games yet they wont make a proper sequel to AW.

I take it that you are privy to what is going to be shown at E3 then, going by that bold statement?
  • Jon1292 #18 1 year ago

    All facts considered, that seems to be quite a smart move;
The original game was very small in size
Remedy are close enough with MS to wrangle their way through a couple of Size limits
To my dissapointment the game didn't sell wildy, but as an XBLA title its genious can live on
  • Collymilad #19 1 year ago

    @cerberus.

Yeah, you know nothing about it beyond the fact it's an XBLA title.

    Stating the truth my arse.
  • lockload #20 1 year ago

    XBLA Kinect game surely

How dare you imply that XBLA games are downloaded. Shame on you. Shame Shame Shame.
  • Malefant #22 1 year ago

Let's hope they aren't doing a Ghostbusters! Talking about dropping the ball - really enjoyed the first game despite it feeling a bit cheap but Sanctum of Slime. Horrible. I have faith in Remedy and hope they keep the quality and atmosphere up although I'm not sure how they can if it's an XBLA game. We'll see.

@Collymilad #19 & @charliechan #22: Let's all try to pay attention to the language we agreed on. To the bottomless pits of oblivion with 'common usage'.
Downloadable Content. Content that is downloaded. XBLA games must be downloaded before its contents can be played. There we have it; downloadable content.
  • Toxicity8 #24 1 year ago

As long as its not to pricey and is decent enough I may pick this one up, took to the gameplay of Alan Wake like a fish took to water.
  • -cerberus- #25 1 year ago

@charliechan #25: That's perfectly fine. When I need to take a crap I usually say "Would you excuse me for a minute?". I don't go into details because nobody cares. Catch my drift?

I'm still waiting for my Alan Wake PC version. :(
  • Subdominator #28 1 year ago

Even if it is DLC turned into an XBLA game it makes a lot of sense. Alan Wake sold what, 500.000 worldwide? With another piece of DLC for that game you can't rise awareness for the brand but with an XBLA release you can.
  • mkreku #29 1 year ago

Grr, I bought Alan Wake and didn't really like it since it was so linear and repetitive. But my stupid brain still remembers that impressive open-world tech demo they showed in 2005 (on PC nonetheless!) whenever someone mentions Alan Wake and I can't stop myself from clicking on the articles.
  • deadmonkeyuk #30 1 year ago

I think Alan Wake will become something of a cult classic, I loved the way it was split into eps like a TV series, DLC was also great. I do think they could have done away with the shooting in the game and just had you killing enemies with light, flares and fire.
  • snick #31 1 year ago

I hope they do something interesting with this, the original was more shooter than expected from the trailers, which is not to say I didn't think it was anything other than excellent but I had perhaps been expecting something else, something where the storyline was an even more involved part of the game.

Perhaps all I'm trying to say here is, please don't be a twin stick shooter set in the woods.

That reminds me, I still have the original dlc to play through. MIght do that tonight once it gets dark.

I hope this is not a kinect game as, though I would like one, I don't have the room for it
  • DiamondIce #34 1 year ago

    Anything Alan Wake-ish is welcome.

Did anyone else find Night Springs incredibly disturbing? I quite enjoyed finding the TVs to watch the clips.
  • bodypopper #35 1 year ago

But will it be out this decade? Hope Springs more like.
