L.A. Noire: Where's the Rockstar Pass?

Store update missing 800 Point add-on.

The Rockstar Pass, a promised downloadable add-on for L.A. Noire, has missed its planned release date.

The mysterious extra was previously listed to launch yesterday on the Xbox Live Marketplace.

There's no sign of the Rockstar Pass on Xbox.com and no mention in boxed copies of the game.

This week's Marketplace update does however bring L.A. Noire Xbox themes, a L.A. Noire Fedora and a L.A. Noire Stage Dress for your Avatar.

What is the Rockstar Pass? Microsoft's earlier press release didn't let on. "In celebration of launch on May 17 take your L.A. Noire experience to the next level and download the 'L.A. Noire Rockstar Pass' add-on," it stated.

Could it unlock access to the assorted pre-order exclusive content? The "A Slip of the Tongue" and "Naked City" cases are being doled out free by specific retailers.

Does the delay signify a shift in Rockstar's plans? Or did Microsoft let slip early?

Another upcoming add-on, the Nicholson Electroplating Arson Case, has also been spotted. Developer Team Bondi has also suggested cut content could also be reinstated.

L.A. Noire's first 15 minutes.

    It's an unsolved mystery.

Sorry if I'm a bit late in asking this (the game had only come on to my radar recently), but are these cases substantial?

If so that seems a bit shitty!

Yeah, the Pre-Order DLC stuff in LA Noire has taken the piss a bit, but they promised to get these out on XBLA/PSN in decent time.

    @Paulie_P

A Slip of the Tongue is 272MB, the Naked City/Badge Pursuit stuff is 472MB. They have 100 extra achievement points each.

There's also 4 other pre-order bits, just comprising extra guns and costumes.

Do you not get this pass if you buy a new copy of the game? I thought the plan with these passes was to glean some money out of the second hand market rather than just requiring everyone to pay more for it.

Well by the sounds of the press release it was going to be a day-1 dlc of some kind, maybe they're waiting for the current psn problems to be sorted out before release?

Can't wait to download this free day 1 DLC on my PS3.

    Oh. Fucking wait.

"Developer Team Bondi has also suggested cut content could also be reinstated."

Theres no "could" about it, they WILL be reinstating the cut content, as premium DLC at a later date. It was probably the original plan in the first place, gotta keep the shareholders happy and all that.

Maybe it will show up between now and Friday, given that that's the game's actual release date?

It's the same way with pre-order DLC codes from online retailers, those don't tend to be emailed out until the Friday of release, Thursday if you're very lucky.

I t was definitely cut so they could sell it on later, and not because the game was already huge enough to fill three xbox discs.

    Give me strength.

No online pass on marketplace? I don't think anyone's missing it anyways.

If Naked City doesn't cause all NPCs to become naked, I am demanding a refund.

i wonder if Rockstar, now they have seen PSN online play up,have decided to wait until PS store is up as well so that it can release on both at the same time

    So many questions.....
  • geeza2020 #16 1 year ago

Yep, use the "its already on three discs" excuse if you want, I just think your being naive. Its all about the $$$ with games these days, and DLC is the current publisher flavour of the month.

I'm sure that some stuff was cut due to space/time issues rather than dlc plans... certainly some cut stuff was planned to be in the boxed release as there's a fairly obvious continuity error where you get congratulated on a promotion from burglary, despite never having worked there...
  • callum9999 #18 1 year ago

geeza2020 - Obviously it's all about the money - since when has it not been with commercial publishers (you can list companies you deem "creative" etc. all you want, but at the end of the day, they too were just after the profit).

What people are saying (I have no opinion on the matter as I don't know why it was cut or how finished it was) is that as it is a big game, they are happy enough having it as an optional extra. I.e. it won't be missed but if you wanted more and were happy to pay for it, it's there if you want it.

    Piss off, spammer.

So what if the DLC doesn't get released for day 1, I'm sure people can wait a few days before it is released. After all, there is the whole issue of actually getting through the main game before you even have to worry about any DLC, right?
  • Paulie_P #21 1 year ago

Thanks skowhegan, still on the fence about whether to buy this game. It seems to be a big enough game, so I'll get my fill without having to purchase any of the DLC.
