Wet 2 cancelled – report

Action sequel runs out of juice.

A sequel to 2009 actioner Wet has been abandoned, according to the resumé of a former Behaviour Interactive employee.

As reported by Siliconera, the LinkedIn profile of a programmer referenced work on Wet 2 and noted that the project has been cancelled.

Another programmer at the studio also lists the title on his LinkedIn page as a "past project".

The relevant line on the former CV has now been removed though Behaviour Interactive had not responded to our request for clarification at the time of writing.

However, Bethesda, who published the first game, told Joystiq, "We are not publishing Wet 2."

The sequel to the fun, OTT original was first announced back in November, though no firm release window was ever pinned down.

That's a shame, I really enjoyed Wet and it's over the top slo-mo blend of swordplay and guns. The soundtrack was fantastic too, spot on for the set pieces.

The best part was when it all want down to bare, primary-coloured polygons and was a fast-paced bloodbath. The rest of the game was desperately mediocre.

It was a really cool idea, though, and made me wonder why there haven't been more grindhousey games. Max Payne was great!

Bumfluff, first game was a fun no brainer.

Less Eliza Dushku in games is bad!

Well the first one sucked so i cant blame them

Yeah...it was OK for what it was but this is exaclty the kind of game that doesn't have the strength to make it in today's climate

Wet's one of the reasons I rarely buy games on the strength of demos anymore. I loved Wet's, pre-ordered the game, and... found that the pace of the demo (a composite of disjointed set-pieces) didn't translate to the game at all. It was fun for a 20 minute or so burst, but over 6-8 hours, not so much.

Though, I guess it's a shame they won't have a chance to improve on it now.

Ah, balls! Wet was often rough and in need of more polish, but it was still some of the most fun I've had with a game in a long time. All it needed was a bit more polish and variety to make it a great, which was why I was anticipating the sequel so badly.

Please reconsider Behaviour, Wet was the one reason I kept following you guys! :(

Bugger, Wet was a pretty good game. By no means brilliant but at least was a great homage to Grindhouse.

I notice Bethesda claim they wouldn't be publishing it. Too busy slinging loads of money advertising buggy messes not fit for release instead.

If this is true, its a real pity, as I thought the first one, although technologically lacking, was brilliantly designed and produced.

I'm still assuming this is a rumour though, as 2 vague LinkedIn profiles don't really add up to a cancelled game. Please don't make me look desperate Behaviour!

sad news as far as im concerned, loved the first game, and the soundtrack was pretty awesome, i was looking forward to what they could pull off with a sequel
i just hope something will happen like when a tv show gets cancelled and then another network buys it and it is saved for at least another season

This makes me sad. I bought and really enjoyed Wet. Hated the name, but dug everything else about it. I dug the cruisy (ie not too challenging) action & platforming, plus the visual/audio style got a huge thumbs up from me..

Oh Eliza, will you and Summer Glau ever get the continuation you deserve?
  • Gambit1977 #16 1 year ago

Bethesda's publishing record isn't great really is it?

Wet, Brink (which I love but it's unfinished!), that one man army mercenary type FPS that got hammered.

Tried the demo for the first Wet game. Not surprised the sequel is cancelled.

Oh Eliza, will you and Summer Glau ever get the continuation you deserve?

lets be honest, dollhouse was awful, i still get rage attacks when i see TSCC-reruns on syfy

and about the game, wet was fun for no more than an hour a time,

NOOOO!!! I loved Wet. I agree with all the flaws everyone has pointed out, but somehow, even those flaws added to the charm of the whole game for me. They got the Grindhouse feel just right, brilliant soundtrack and Eliza was the perfect cast for Ruby. Oh well, perhaps it is better to treasure the original then to have a sucky sequel. Still, I hope some other publisher picks this up.

Wet was actually rather brilliant. I picked it up for something like £6 and it was one of my games of last year (though it was probably released the year before). Fantastic fun with great production values and really good music.

I actually thought they had canned the idea of a sequel shortly after the first game was released due to its poor sales.

It's a surprise, since WET didn't do too badly. They didn't make much profit from it, but it almost broke even. http://www.develop-online.net/printer/ne...

I am still sure there was a Wet sequel cancelled story shortly after it was released. It was planned as a major new franchise if I remember correctly so not quite breaking even would have been fairly bad going.
