Tekken Blood Vengeance movie revealed

Out this summer in stereoscopic 3D.

Namco Bandai has announced a new Tekken movie – this time computer generated, in stereoscopic 3D and with the full cooperation of the video game development team.

Tekken project leader Katsuhiro Harada told an audience at Namco Bandai's LevelUp press event in Dubai this morning, attended by Christian Donlan for Eurogamer, that the movie launches this summer in theatres.

It follows 2010 Hollywood live action criticial and commercial flop Tekken.

"It's the first time in our history we've been involved in making a Tekken movie – a full length CG animated movie.

"There was a Hollywood Tekken movie, but please forget about that.

"We've always heard from fans that they want us to make some kind of animation that uses the hi-res 3D models from the game."

Digital Frontier, the animation company that created the Tekken 6 and Tekken 5 opening cinematics, 2004 movie Appleseed and 2008's Resident Evil: Degenration, is on board. Tekken producer Yoshinari Mizushima, who is head of the art and graphics department at Namco Bandai, is also involved.

Dai Sato, whose credits include Cowboy Bebop and Ghost in the Shell, has penned the script. Lorelei and Evangelion's Shinji Higuchi is on storyboard duty.

"As you can see we have the best of the best involved in this CG movie," Mizushima said.

After the movie's theatrical release, a boxed version with expanded content will launch.

Its debut trailer is below.

I'm sure there was another tekken movie... It was an anime. I remember Total N64 magazine was giving a copy away in s competition, which even they admitted was weird because tekken was a playstation title.

    @Joe

You are right. It was a traditionally animated affair that was released back in 1997 by the now defunct anime releasing company ADV Films, and was just absolutely fucking awful, in everyway imaginable. Honestly, it makes the recent Hollywood shitathon look like a masterpiece.

Looking forward to this though, especially with the talent behind it such as Dai 'Cowboy Bebop' Sato.

"It follows 2010 Hollywood live action criticial and commercial flop Tekken." - There was a Tekken movie last year? Jesus, that's news to me!

This looks quite interesting but I doubt it'll be released in cinemas here. With the exception of Spirited Away and that CG Final Fantasy movie, I can't remember the last time a Japanese movie made it to the cinema here - meaning I'm guessing we'll have to wait for the DVD and miss the 3D.

Still trying to. Even the animated one from 1995 wasn't great, but if this is anything on par with Advent Children, I shall be jizzing my pants in anticipation.

The Tekken 5 intro remains the best Tekken "movie" there has been. I hope this can at least equal it.

I think Resident Evil: Degenerations finally opened eyes of a lot of game studios that CGI movies do better with fans than live action Hollywood movies.

Correction: Actually, it was Final Fantasy that started it all.

This is a terrible admisssion for my 1st post, but I watched the live action Tekken film last night. I wished I hadn't bothered. Don't get me wrong, I've seen way worse (but not much) but if you are a Tekken fan I'd suggest steering clear unless you want to spend the entire movie screaming ' That's not right!!' or 'NO NO NO, that's not supposed to happen!'
I was sorely dissapointed. Let's hope that this CGI version will be brilliant - looks good from the trailer. :)
