EA lands Flight Control developer
Firemint to "accelerate" mobile domination.
The developer behind iOS hits Flight Control and Real Racing is the latest smartphone specialist to be snapped up by publisher EA.
A deal with Melbourne-based Firemint is expected to be agreed in the next few weeks for an undisclosed fee.
"The Firemint team is remarkable for its critical and commercial success," commented EA interactive exec Barry Cottle.
"Having them as part of EAi will accelerate our position as worldwide leader in game development for mobile devices and online gaming platforms."
Firemint's Flight Control has sold millions of copies since first hitting the App Store back in 2009, making it into Eurogamer's Games of 2009 run-down.
Its most recent release, Real Racing 2 HD for the iPad, is the first iOS title to support 1080p.
Firemint is the latest smartphone scalp for EA. Last year it acquired Angry Birds/Cut the Rope publisher Chillingo, while more recently it snapped up MPP.
"The added technical expertise of MPP, combined with the creative talent of Firemint and our EAi studio teams, fuels EA's leadership in delivering top selling, high quality games across mobile phones and smartphones, tablets and future digital interactive entertainment platforms," added Cottle.

It's lovely!
Someone should award the makers of Flight Control, Peggle and Pacman CE for bringing me so much gaming fun this generation.
They're damn near my favourite games!
