Budget Wii software range planned?

Wii Select to coincide with console price cut.

Nintendo is planning to introduce a range of budget Wii software, repackaging various first party titles at a discounted price, according to insider sources.

A retailer price list procured by Kotaku states that the Wii Select line will hit US stores later this month.

Mario Super Sluggers, The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess and Super Smash Bros. Brawl will be the first titles to fall under the banner, selling for a rock-bottom $19.99 each - that's about £12.

The launch will apparently coincide with a Wii price drop. The same leaked document lists a new Mario Kart bundle priced at $149 (around £90), down from $199. Former pack-in staple Wii Sports will henceforth be available as part of the Wii Select range.

We've asked Nintendo UK if there's any plan to introduce the range, if indeed it does exist, or implement a hardware price cut on European shores. We'll update if it responds.

With the Wii's successor set to be revealed at E3 next month, it would certainly be a timely leg-up for Nintendo's aging system.

TBH all Wii games should be £19.99 or less

And I've just paid $49.99 for Brawl ,all the wayfrom Canada! But being the obsessive that I am, I actually don't care because I must have ORIGINALS, not budget re-releases in my little collection. A bit sad really, I know.

Can hear my kids playing on "the old Wii" whilst I type this, sometimes they prefer it to "the new Wii" which is their name for the Xbox 360 Kinect.

Also, they love the same old titles over-n-over again. Not sure I'll need to buy any new titles, no matter what the price.

There's the software pyramid but this is the first time a bunch of first party titles are released as budget titles.

-Aww. Gets clucky before remembering that kids eat into valuable game-playing, net-surfing & movie/porn watching. Still though, aww.

The only Wii game that I have bought that's actually felt like it was worth £40 was Metroid Prime 3. Metroid Prime Trilogy is probably the best value package on the system.

-"Nintendo does not comment on rumour or speculation".

    There you go, job done.

I certainly hope others out there feel the same way as I'm putting my still-sealed copy up for auction on eBay soon. I suffer from awful motion sickness and decided that I've thrown up for the last time. Sealed copies of about 35 other FPS will be going up alongside it. Be nice to think I might get a decent amount. I put my ex's son's mint Gamecube copy of Metroid Prime 2 up a couple of weeks ago. It sold for 95p. Zelda - Wind Waker went for £20.

    Weird.

Bout time really. Wii games are expensive, and wtf has there not been a pilot wings wii?

I hope they put Super Paper Mario in this range, it seems impossible to find it anywhere at a normal price so it could do with a re-release.

Half the wii games released are cheap as chips anyway - its only the decent first party ones that often rob you of £40+

    @Scritti

I'm toying with selling my US lovely metal-tin version of MPT, or whether I should watch as value increases, as I'm quite happy with the copies of all 3 games separately.
