XBL chart: COD rules, Homefront falters

Limbo takes weekly Arcade top spot.

The Call of Duty franchise continues to dominate Xbox Live, according to the latest weekly usage chart.

As detailed on Major Nelson's blog, Black Ops had the most unique worldwide users for the week of 11th April, followed by Modern Warfare 2.

Call of Duty 4 and Call of Duty: World at War are both still in the top 10 too, while THQ's recent pretender to Activision's FPS crown seems to be struggling for audience share way down at 15th.

Good to see Bad company 2 coming back to life thanks to BF3 interest.Crysis 2 drop is a shock but Homefront isn't.
  • Bogie19th #2 1 year ago

Homefront needs to do better than that. Dang it peeps....get the game!
  • ShadowMountain #3 1 year ago

    Hmm...am I doing something wrong? I don't own a single game on that top 20 list! >_

I bought HomeFront, couldn't get a game going most of the time, so got fed up and traded it in. Apparently I wasn't the only one.

Pleased to see GTAIV still up there, ridiculously good fun with a good bunch.

4/10 are CoD? Jesus... I'm amazed WaW is there considering the stick it gets.

That's a major tail off on Homefront after the amount of copies they apparently sold, there was around 500,000 names on the xbox leaderboard the week after release. I'm still loving it, but aiming for the COD masses, then have constant cashes and not allowing people to play with friends was suicide really...

Everyone bar myself on my friends list has traded this in purely because of the state of the servers those first few weeks...shame :/

You're on your own friends list?

    That's a bit narcissistic!

Genuinely surprised to see Crysis 2 and Homefront as low down as they are (although the reason for the former is highly likely to be due to the disruptive, unfinished netcode and not the actual quality of the game itself - which is frustratingly brilliant, online.

    Oh and fuck CoD.

Limbo deserves that top spot. Started playing it this evening, it's very good indeed. Impressive atmosphere, and truly brilliant sound design.

You've got to be kidding me!

The last four CODs are all in the top ten most played!

  • darkmorgado #12 1 year ago

How the hell is MvC2 on the chart? I've not managed to get a single online game in over a year.

I wonder how CoD has so many playing. Do CoD players happily flit from one to another during the week or are there 4 core groups with a few floaters?

The chart for XBLA games is just the number of purchases not the number playing online.

    Reach Bitches!!!

Astro-Creature - There are XBLA games that have more online players, but aren't included for some reason. Full House Poker regularly has 10k + players on nights when they have Texas Heat sessions.
  • uzivatel #17 1 year ago

@Astro-Creature: does Forza 3 show all people playing the game or just people playing multiplayer?

@Astro-Creature: does Forza 3 show all people playing the game or just people playing multiplayer?

Only people on lobbies, and tbh most ppl play Forza for SP.
  • Scopeh #19 1 year ago

This is why Activision have nothing to worry about with COD, they know the kids on the Xbox will always play COD.
  • carlitoswagon #20 1 year ago

    Reminds me to buy Limbo.

Always welcome a few more players on BFBC2. Shame half of them are 'trying' to snipe.
  • AcidSnake #21 1 year ago

Glad to see Fallout: New Vegas in the top 20, its multiplayer portion is criminally overlooked...

    Errr...
  • BlinkeredAxis #22 1 year ago

Halo reach is still there - it's wonderfully well supported on multiplayer. New challenges and game types every day, loads of players online as a result. and you can create and play your own maps.

Officially it's 117 times times better than the CoD stuff.
  • kinky_mong #23 1 year ago

Only 2 good multiplayer games in the top 10, three at a push if you include GTAIV which I found a pain online because of the way the lobbies work. What a sorry state of affairs.
  • Mister-Wario #24 1 year ago

    Woo, L4D2's hanging in there!
  • Feanor #25 1 year ago

I would have bought Limbo but I missed the sale.

Crysis 2 deserves better. In crash site mode, its more fun than any objective mode that CoD has ever had(largley as its whole set up counters the ks builders). The suit makes you feel like a badass too-although the extra layer of complexity it adds wont sit well with some. It also deserves better from EA/Crytek. Its a good console base to work from, but has a diamond in the rough feel. Support it, patch it, nurture it and you have something. And I don't just mean a map pack. Something tells me we'll have to wait for Crysis 3 though..

CoD is top because Kotick is telling everyone if they dont own a copy of CoD Black Ops then the terrorists win.
