I was obsessed with the DS version for months - first and only time frame rate drops actually worked in a game.

Do you know the large Space fruits that the Kosmo gang smuggle?
Riki:
What? Those legendary space fruits? The huge Space fruits?
Riki:
Go ahead, tell me! Where are these valuable things?
Mrs. M:
They appear when you destroy something.
Mrs. M:
You have already gained them without control.
Riki:
Okay, that's the way it is!
Riki:
They are huge fruits Which are apparently in space..
Mrs. M:
The type of fruit changes with the number of explosions.
Mrs. M:
The more, the better. Makes 50000 credits please.

Totally right - it's visual proof that you're playing it properly!
Seeing my beloved Dreamcast slow to a crawl when I finally managed to trigger 999 simultaneous explosions was magical. Never has watching a screen struggle to refresh been so cathartic.
And to think that Spirits was even better...amazing...
Bring on the Fury!
