2K confirms Mafia II special editions

DLC bundled in at discount price.

As rumoured last week, 2K has repackaged its Mafia II mob epic to include all the game's DLC.

The pack, tagged Mafia II: Director's Cut on PC, Mafia II: Greatest Hits on PlayStation 3 and Mafia II: Platinum Hits on Xbox 360, bolts on the following content to the bare-bones game:

  • The Betrayal of Jimmy expansion
  • Jimmy's Vendetta expansion
  • Joe's Adventures expansion
  • Four Style Packs (Vegas, Renegade, Greaser and War Hero) each with two cars and two suits for in-game use

The PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions are apparently available now at "select retailers" and then at additional vendors worldwide throughout April.

Plans for the PC version are even more ambiguous. That will "become available in the coming months".

European pricing hasn't been confirmed, but the US RRP is a knock-down $29.99.

We're chasing 2K's UK outpost to help fill in a few of the blanks and will update accordingly.

Could you also ask them if the Xbox 360 version does indeed come with The Betrayal Of Jimmy DLC?

I was under the impression that this was Playstation 3 exclusive, and was expecting it to remain so in the bundle re-release, as-per Batman: Arkham Asylum GOTY with The Joker content.

    Cheers!

Jimmy's vendetta is on Xbl marketplace already (has been pretty much since launch) so it'll be on there. Both the DLC's are terrible though imo.

Umm... Thats why he's asking about "The Betrayal of Jimmy" much?

The game has only been out for 6 months. Publishers are devaluing their own products with these repackaged 'complete edition' games. Buying games on release, for full price, without any DLC, seems more and more foolish these days.

Definitely regret buying this now - xbox broke halfway through me playing it and now I have a new one, the "full game" is being released at a cheaper price.

Lesson learnt, and that is why the only game I've bought so far this year is a DS game, and the only other two on the horizon at the moment are both PSP games. LA Noire and Portal 2 are clearly going to have DLC so they can wait until they're released as "1.0" versions rather than the "0.5" versions games are released as now.

Can you blame them? With the specialist retailers (and now the supermarkets) pushing pre-owned more and more, publishers need to recoup all that lost revenue somehow. While I would rather see initiatives like Project Ten Dollar taken even further (like a mandatory £5.00 activation fee for any preowned game), at the moment releasing multiple editions and DLC is pretty much the only way that publishers have to claw back the money they are losing to the likes of the c*nts at GAME.

    @brod

Completely agree buying games at anything more than half of the retail price is more or less fanboy territory now.
Talk about screwing people over with DLC, worst of it is actually that it's the fanboys fault for gobling anything up that is put in front of them.

Oh by the way these spam bots are awful!

The flipside of that coin is... someone has to buy it when it's new and full price, otherwise the price plummets because the developer goes bust and that's all you get, regardless of how good it is.

I agree that games are overpriced (especially as they now sell you a significant portion of them later) and hate to admit it but at times it feels like my scenario above is the only way to do anything about it.

Except the fanboy factor, of course.

ive been there did that got the t-shirt no thanks. one way to milk more money i suppose shame it dont have multiplayer.

Played this on PS3 and really enjoyed actually. Great story, just felt a little rushed but decent enough.

The thing is, if I pay full price for a game, I expect a full sodding game, not half of one with the rest served up in bite-sized, overpriced chunks.

Imagine going to a pub, paying full price for a pint of beer, only to be served half a pint, and being informed that the rest of it will be sold to you via micro-payments. You wouldn't tolerate this sort of shit in the pub, so why should we tolerate this sort of shit from the gaming industry?

I wouldn't care if they were giving it away for free, I'm never playing this pile of garbage again!

I think there's got to be recognition of various types of DLC. There are the things like Shale and Warden's Keep in Dragon Age: Origins which were obviously gouged out of the main game. But then you have all of the Borderlands DLC which tonally feel really separate to the main game. I think with Borderlands you can buy the main game as a 'complete package' and treat the DLC as a separate thing. Same with Mass Effect 2, the DLC released for that game never feels like something was actively removed from the game.

I knew it - my waiting paid off. I never buy games on the day of release anymore for this very reason.
  • glaeken #15 1 year ago

Sounds like the version I have been waiting for. Mafia 2 the complete game edition.

I actually deliberatly held off buying this one due to the DLC looking like stuff that should been in the full game. There is probably a lesson for the publisher in this.

Likewise , I've held of buying Mafia 2 simply because I wanted to wait for the GOTY edition.
See? I'm getting stronger and am able to resist day 1 purchases more and more.....nowIi just have to work on my day 2 purchase habit........

    @Raiftel

I agree that there are some great DLC s but I could count them probably on one hand.
Tendency is that most DLC is just there to milk people stupid enough to buy it, and there are it seems enough of that sort to make it a lasting business model ,with an ungodly amount of DLCs that are getting shitier by the day.

PC even gets a staggered re-release. Hnnngggggh. (Bought it already for €7 in a Steam sale, but still: hnnnggghhhhh.)

"...Platinum Hits on Xbox 360, bolts on the following content to the bare-bones game.."
and so there you have it.. a pile of bare, dry bones with rusty bolts sticking out.. simply amazing, if you're into that kind of thing.
