Rage novel in the works

Turns at 60 pages a second.

A novel based on id Software's upcoming first-person shooter Rage is in the works.

It's written by Matt Costello, who helped write the video game, and launches in the UK on 30th August from Ebury Publishing.

The game is set in a post-apocalyptic earth devastated by an asteroid. Humanity is rebuilding as it struggles with bandit gangs and mutants.

The novel delves deeper into the background to the apocalypse, Bethesda said.

The Rage novel announcement follows the news that the game will enjoy a three-issue comic book series.

The comics, the first of which is due out in June, take place shortly before the events of the game.

Eurogamer last saw Rage at QuakeCon 2010.

"As it pretty much always is with this storied developer," Tom wrote, "it is all about that graphics engine. Staring into the screen and struggling to pick out a single repeated detail, 60 times every second, is almost disorientating. If the kids don't know who id Software any more, they should do by this time next year."

The lettering on the PS3 version of the book isn't as high resolution as the 360. But the sound of the pages turning is in Dolby 7.1

I've 'custom firmwared' my copy by tearing off the spine and inserting several old Siegfried Sassoon poem printouts between the covers, thereby 'emulating older systems' whilst making me feel all underground and cool and that

"If the kids don't know who id Software any more, they should do by this time next year."

Am I reading it wrong, or is that bastardized twice over? Sholdn't it read something like, 'if the kids don't know id software any more, they will by this time next year.'

    amirite?

also, just saying - expect a big performance dip on the PS3. I only own the PS3, and while I love it, I've learned my lesson from Crysis2. If you are making a big budget game intended to push the pc to the limit, you seemingly are unable to code for the PS3. I know carmack is a genius, but these pc centric coders can't code outside of their comfort zone WORTH A DAMN.

    Visceral gets credit.
