Microsoft preparing "updated disc format"

Sends out call for US beta testers.

Microsoft is currently recruiting US-based beta testers for a forthcoming Xbox 360 system update.

A post on Major Nelson's blog today read, "We are conducting an open call for US based participants for a public preview to help us prepare for an updated Xbox 360 disc format.

"This is an important update as we continually strive to improve our products and we could not do so without the help of our great Xbox community."

There's no further information on exactly what Microsoft has in store but if you're based in the US and want to get a jump on it, a sign-up site has gone live.

All successful applicants will get a copy of Halo: Reach and "other possible rewards" for their troubles. Nelson says, "We're looking for multiple thousands of participants, so your chances of making it in are good." As ever, priority goes to Xbox Live Gold members.
