L.A. Noire selected by Tribeca film fest

Rockstar invents "new realm of storytelling".

Rockstar's forthcoming crime epic L.A. Noire is the first video game ever to secure a slot at Robert De Niro's prestigious Tribeca Film Festival.

The title has been honoured as an Official Selection at the annual event which takes place in New York next month.

A Tribeca Talks session will see Rockstar presenting an exclusive preview of the game followed by a Q&A looking at how it has attempted to bridge the divide between filmmaking and game development.

"What Rockstar and Team Bondi have accomplished with L.A. Noire is nothing less than groundbreaking," said Tribeca chief Geoff Gilmore of the decision to include the game in the festival.

"It's an invention of a new realm of storytelling that is part cinema, part gaming, and a whole new realm of narrative expression, interactivity, and immersion. We are poised on the edge of a new frontier."

"We're thrilled that L.A. Noire is being recognized by the Tribeca Film Festival in this way," added Rockstar founder Sam Houser. "It's a real honor, and another step forward for interactive entertainment."

The game is due to launch on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on 20th May.

    "new realm of storytelling"

I'll believe it when I see it. Game looks great, though.

How many times can the following be said?

"I really, REALLY hope this won't be a massive disappointment."

Kudos to Rockstar. Its great that games like this, Heavy Rain and Mass Effect are pushing the envelope. Hollywood needs to bow down, now. Games have much to learn yet, though.

Well, if this doesn't help those U.K tax breaks, nothing will.

Visionary lot those people at Tribeca. Or should that be clairvoyant.

I'll believe it when I play it. Was told the same about Heavy Rain and got a badly written and acted story full of unexplained red herring plot devices, deus ex machina and a story that would make the worst episodes of criminal minds embarassed.

Mad thing is this game was picked up by Rockstar after being dropped by multiple publishers.
Its not Rockstar borne and bred its just being published by them

Its been in development 5 years i think i read... would be interested in hearing more about when they tried to get a publisher etc... But i would be very surprised if there was no creative input from Rockstar on this one...

Wait, how is this game different to other games (not been keeping up-to-date)?
  • metalangel #13 1 year ago

How can they tell? The game isn't out yet.

@RobotRocker: A[link url=http://www.]http://www.[/link] It had some good laughs over the years, but they lost me the day they printed something I sent in and didn't give me credit.

Hopefully this game will bring and end to some developers' obsession with making games into film hybrids and the 'new frontier' is a place where games are appreciated for their far superior potential and the shackles of the dying film industry can finally be shrugged off.

I don't hold out much hope though.

with every news about LA Noire make me more and more hoping LA Noire to be released on PC too.

Its just dont do justice with the quality of LA Noire if only released in Console.
The amount of detail is crazy.

its a shame these detail cant go to its maximum glory runing in current-gen console....
