Job ad suggests multiplayer God of War

Kratos vs. Kratos or Kratos and Kratos?

A new job advertisement posted by Sony Santa Monica suggests a multiplayer future for the God of War series.

Sony's PlayStation 3 exclusive gore-em-up has always been single-player only.

According to the ad, posted on Gamasutra, Sony's after a senior online programmer to handle "designing and implementing systems and tools to support networking needs (such as in-game communication, client-server, match-making, leaderboards)".

Is Sony Santa Monica plotting competitive or cooperative multiplayer?

God of War III launched early last year as a visual showcase for the PlayStation 3.

It enjoyed a 9/10 in Eurogamer's God of War III review, in which Christian Donlan wrote: "There are no branching paths, no complex decisions, and no multiplayer modes, but this particular game is all the better for it, since the results are rich and focused rather than drawn-out and a little ragged."

This article is 10% facts and 90% speculation.

Isn't the Santa Monica studio involved in Journey? This position would be suited for that project.

Or it could be a new IP( facepalm at EG)

Co-op God of War? Yes please.

It'll be Kratos and his brother.

to all the people complaining - just don't buy it. You're the same people complaining about Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood when it was announced.

Just don't buy the damn game, and be content with the trilogy...

    edit:

...if it turns out rotten, then none of the rest of us will bother, but if they strike gold - then once again - it'll be the modern day equivalent to the original Golden Axe.

Since I played the first God of War, I've had the feeling that it's the new Golden Axe, as Sega don't have a fucking clue what they're doing in this century, it's up to other studios to take the spirit of their franchises and modernise them.

Roll on the 2 player co-op, the battle modes, etc. Hopefully it'll increase to 3 and 4 player modes in the years to come, with different characters and different places in the God of War time-line being explored...

edit2: Also this gives them the chance to experiment with Move and 3D support. It's a damn shame that the Move wand has no directional control. This game would be PERFECT to play while dual wielding Move wands, but how would you move and roll?

    :p

After 3 in a row I honestly dont think they are gonna make another GoW. Multiplayer GoW would never work, this add is for a different game

The job ad says, "Join the God of War team!"
  • Markitron #9 1 year ago

That doesnt necessarily mean they are making a God of War game tho, just advertising the fact that they are top developer
  • jonsaan #10 1 year ago

It'd be good if you could be those giant rock and tree creatures from GOW3.

I'm pretty sure there's a new IP on the way. Either that, or a complete reboot of the GoW series, set in either Norse or Chinese mythology.

Thinking about it, the combat engine of GOW could be fantastic for a multiplayer game.

No contest there, but it's unlikely that the same IP would now be used for a multiplayer game. A new IP with the same (or similar) engine would be very welcome, though.

It says "join the GoW team". It doesn't say "help us create a MP GoW".

    Cut the crap, EG. Seriously.

Really? Well anything is possible, but it could be for Twisted metal or a new IP.

I am not a fan of multiplayer tacked on to games for the sake of it, but I have to say I can see this one working if some time and care is put into it (i.e like Assassin's Creed Brotherhood). As someone mentioned above, the combat engine would work well with multiplayer.

sorry but gow is all about epic single player. mulitplayer is just wack and would feel out of place.

well it doesn't matter to me. Eurogamer may have given it a 9/10 (and I love you eurogamer) but I gave the game a 3/10. Ninja gaiden sigma was a better fighter, DMC1,3 and 4 were better fighters, Bayonetta was a better fighter, viewtiful joe too - and I don't mean slightly better either. GoW is a polished, derivative turd. I've honestly never seen a decent fighting game come out of the west. Not one.

I buy my fighting games from the Japanese and my shooters from the west (except, of course, for vanquish which was awesome). No one builds fighters like the japanese.

God of war was like Sarah Palin. Nice to look at, but full of shit.

    PS

The uncharted games suck too. The graphics aren't that good - the camera aims like a dump truck - there's no depth, or upgrades, exploration or variation.

Naughty Dog did much better with Jak 2 and 3. It's like naughty dog was riding the 'next-gen' bus and decided to get off in 2008. from what I can tell, they haven't gotten back on.

Yeah you heard me. GoW and Uncharted are derivative, semi-realized, and over developed. Killzone beats both.
