BBFC outs SSFIV Arcade Edition for UK

UPDATE: Release date revealed.

UPDATE: The BBFC lists a release date for Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition: 24th June 2011.

While we're at it, we'll point out it has Resident Evil The Mercenaries 3D down for release on 17th June.

ORIGINAL STORY: The British Board of Film Classification has confirmed the launch of Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition in the UK.

The BBFC's listing mentions anime animator Jiro Kanai as director, suggesting the Arcade Edition includes new intro and outro movies.

Predictably, the game was passed with no cuts made.

Street Fighter producer Yoshinori Ono has teased the launch of the Arcade Edition, which includes four new playable characters, for months now.

Speaking to Eurogamer ahead of the launch of Super Street Fighter IV 3D Edition last Thursday, Ono said: "Well, if you think I'm a tease, I ought to have something to show if I'm teasing. But that's all I can say because of political issues."

The AE adds Yun and Yang from Street Fighter III as playable characters, as well as Evil Ryu and new character Oni (an even more evil Akuma) as secret bosses.

Gameplay balance changes are also implemented, some of which have sparked intense debate within the fighting game community.

Surely they can't expect people to buy yet another version of SFIV?
  • convercide #2 1 year ago

    You are kidding me. :/

This was supposed to be DLC. *sigh*
  • Mister-Wario #3 1 year ago

Well, people have bought Super Mario Allstars in droves, and they'll most likely buy Ocarina of Time, so, yeah.
  • Phantom_Dynamite #4 1 year ago

Jesus capcom I was expecting over priced DLC but another version of the game, balls to it.
  • Eighthours #5 1 year ago

Nice to see Capcom making exactly the same mistakes as they originally made with SFII, and Activision made with the Guitar Hero franchise. Naked greed will kill this revival all over again.
  • Domstercool #6 1 year ago

Wouldn't this be the PC version if it was retail by any chance?
  • Yodith #7 1 year ago

DLC or GTFO. I'm not buying another version of SFIV.
  • PixelPirate #8 1 year ago

    Wow.

Thats pretty terrible, it should be DLC.

I guess they are working on the model they used for Street Fighter 2, Street Fighter 2:championship, Street Fighter 2:Turbo etc.

    Which is pretty outdated now
  • griggsy101 #9 1 year ago

What with all the character rebalancing and general tweaks, this was unlikely to be DLC. Surely though they'll sell it at a low price like SSFIV?
  • TheEarlOfZinger #10 1 year ago

    Lap it up, sheep.
  • TelexStar #11 1 year ago

I'm really struggling to contain my utter hatred for these money gouging bastards at Capcom. I bought Street Fighter 4. I then bought Super Street Fighter 4. If you think I'm buying Arcade Edition, you can jog on.
  • argus_raphite #12 1 year ago

@Mister-Wario Although I partially agree about how Nintendo have done similar. its not like they released OoT or Mario All-stars 3 times, with slight tweaks, within 2 years of the original, for the same console.

Only SF I've ever bought with 3 Alpha on the PS1. Won't be getting this, but I suppose if people just choose not to buy it maybe Capcom can at least take a hint...Although I highly doubt it.
  • MisterCraig #13 1 year ago

I'll buy this. I love street fighter. I'll spend money on this newly boxed game and have a great time playing it. This is about the only game I will disregard principles for because I - Love - Street Fighter.

Kind of ironic really, because this franchise is among the worst for releasing reiterated editions.

I probably wouldn't be so salty if they had included additional costumes on the disc, rather than making us shell out more money for more skins which we've been doing for 3 games now. Terrible!
  • Alipan #14 1 year ago

This will probably sell for £20 online like SSF4 did.

Thats not a bad deal - as DLC it would have been 1200 points minimum - more likely it would cost more if you look at how much Capcom are charging for the extra characters on MvC3.

AND also it doesnt force the changes onto people. Dont like the changes to Blanka? No problem just stick with the old version.

  • RobotRocker #15 1 year ago

Why do you want DLC? It was already on the SSF4 disc. It will just be an unlock key.
  • superstu1337 #16 1 year ago

    Mortal Kombat anyone?
  • serpantdarius #17 1 year ago

Should we Expect a re-release on 3DS too then, it wont have these characters, unless they intend to spotpass them
  • convercide #18 1 year ago

    @RobotRocker

Erm, what? No it isn't. Yun, Yang, Evil Ryu and Oni Akuma are not on the disc. Only the initial costume DLC was on the disc. Even the new costumes require downloading a sizeable file.
  • Aretak #19 1 year ago

"Should we Expect a re-release on 3DS too then"

I think you can be expecting new versions of SFIV on every platform going for many years to come. That's what Capcom do with Street Fighter.
  • AdamAsunder #20 1 year ago

For Fucks Sake. For anyone bothered about achievements it's another grind to get to C with every character. There has to be more than 4 new characters to make me want to buy a new iteration. The last one had 10 so this isn't exactly progress.

Bad form Capcom, very fucking bad form you fucking cuntfucks.
  • StolenGlory #21 1 year ago

There is no cunting way that they should be selling this as a seperate retail product.

EDIT: And obviously the fuckmuppets who negged me have way more money than sense.

I think Robot Rocker is being sarcastic.

    Well I chuckled...
  • Skeletor #23 1 year ago

"Should we Expect a re-release on 3DS too then"

Probably not, but expect the Arcade Edition on Sony's NGP.
  • coderkind #24 1 year ago

If it's more than 4 extra characters then I've no problems buying this. Vanilla and Super Street Fighter IV were both amazing games.

As long as they're not going down the route Marvel vs Capcom 3 has (charging a lot for individual characters) then I can't wait. By far the best fighting game around and a hell of a lot better online than MvC3 too.
  • Freelancepolice #25 1 year ago

Might this not be an arcade cab version rather than a console version of the arcade? I think they still have to be rated.
  • shadowlp #26 1 year ago

Logically they will cease production of SSF4 and replace it with the Arcade ed, they will patch SSF4 and add a DLC to upgrade existing copies to Arcade Ed, well from a business stand point it seems the most logical thing to do! Peoples dont want to buy a third version of the game...
  • Alipan #27 1 year ago

If Capcom had released 4 new characters at 400 points a pop everyone would be moaning about that - they cant win either way.

Some people will only be happy if this is free or dirt cheap!
  • MadDave123 #28 1 year ago

No one has confirmed or denied if the Arcade Edition will be available as DLC or not. I think people need to relax a little until Capcom actually announce the title officially.

For all we know there is DLC planned as well. But DLC won't show up on the BBFC site. If you think about it, it makes sense to have a retail version (if there is DLC as well). Then people who don't already have SSF4 can just buy all the content on a disc (like a GOTY version).

Chill out until we have all the facts. Then, if Capcom say "actually, it's retail only, no DLC, soz!" by all means go ape shit. I know I will.

  • Cheapshot #29 1 year ago

If the game is released at 20 quid like SSF4 then hey, not a big deal. Probably the same they would have charged for DLC anyway.
  • kitsuneyo #30 1 year ago

    Could this still be DLC?
  • Bigmac1910 #31 1 year ago

Not going to buy this, 2 versions was enough for me. Besides Mortal Kombat is coming out, so yeah...
  • RobotRocker #32 1 year ago

Erm, what? No it isn't. Yun, Yang, Evil Ryu and Oni Akuma are not on the disc. Only the initial costume DLC was on the disc. Even the new costumes require downloading a sizeable file.

Of course it is. Capcom always has their DLC on disc, just watch, it will magically appear. They are waiting under the bed right now going to suck the money and blood right out of you with On Disc DLC. They will also create a new Day 1 for the game just to piss you off further as well.

Street Fighter IV: Super Mega Turbo Platinum Fighter Edition Deluxe
  • bit-crusheRRRR #34 1 year ago

Having only just got around to getting ssfIV this is kind of annoying. fingers crossed for dlc.
  • Der_tolle_Emil #35 1 year ago

I guess it makes sense if the Arcade Edition is SSFIV + DLC. If they completely skip the DLC and balance changes for SSFIV then Capcom are ripping us off. Of course I expect it to be quite cheap like SSFIV but it still is a bit weird. Hopefully there will be a way to import my save files into the new one. I'd like to have more than just 3 awards per game just because I don't spend enough time and they always release a new one.
  • Gearskin #36 1 year ago

If they throw in other modes and backgrounds, I'd have no issue trading in SSFIV against this. If it was DLC they'd charge... what... £10? This won't be a full price game, like SSFIV wasn't.
  • kitsuneyo #37 1 year ago

Looking on the bright side, maybe retail is ok. Stick Super on eBay and get some money back for it. Then buy the Arcade Edition, which will surely be around £20. Could work out cheaper, and you have a physical copy of the newest version.
  • NewbieZilla #38 1 year ago

I'm surprised more people didn't see this coming. This is Capcom we're talking about. One SF4 was enough for me.
  • Deano_98 #39 1 year ago

It doesn't actually say anything about a disk, surely DLC needs to be rated too otherwise capcom could just put porn on there with a 12 rating.
  • kosigan #40 1 year ago

So, when's Hyper Street Fighter 4 out?
  • mega7ech #41 1 year ago

These new slightly tweaked versions of SF4 are nothing new to those of us old enough to remember playing the origianl SFII way back on the SNES. Back then we had many championship, turbo, super, super turbo, etc, editions BUT we were paying £60 a pop back then for those good old expensive cartridges. So these new £20 updates, to me at least, dont seem so bad. Just Capcom doing what they've always done...
  • MadDave123 #42 1 year ago

    @Deano_98

The BBFC only supplies ratings for physical retail product. It's doesn't rate anything that's online only e.g. DLC. PEGI however, do rate online content, so that would prevent your 12+ porn theory. ;)
  • Slipstream #43 1 year ago

I should be totally mad right now, like, really furious, you know? Bit...I can't be angry, because I'm too excited!
  • AdamAsunder #44 1 year ago

I can understand a disc to compliment the DLC. A lot of digital content is now being released as boxed product. It just better be DLC as well.

  • menage #45 1 year ago

I bought both other games. I won't buy another.
  • kingcrowbar #46 1 year ago

If it is a new version, it's a great way to split the online playerbase :/

Hopefully it's just a new pressing of the disc plus dlc for those that don't have it yet.
Maybe the rest can still play online even without the needing to buy the dlc, just an update with the new (unselectable) characters.
  • vagabond #47 1 year ago

Why do so many idiots get ANGRY each time a new SF is announced?

Everyones totally fine with FIFA (and all it's dlc modes) every year, Call Of Duty and the like, but as soon as anything fighting game related is announced you get the same morons writing rage filled comments: 'OMG WTF Fuck Capcomm Lolz cuntZ'

Guys here's a news flash, you don't HAVE to buy.

Personally speaking ive put in 100s of hours of enjoyment into SF4 and Super so I'm more then happy to do the same again as it's great value for money.

It makes me laugh that you buy a fighting game and expect it to last you for years without having to buy an update again.

    Keep crying scrubs.
  • Ashcroft #48 1 year ago

    Oh fuck this shit
  • Geminosity #49 1 year ago

I don't actually mind them releasing a new version, DLC or not. Problem is, I'm not that enamoured with the whole 1 frame link thing and the input leniency screwing up my already less-than-stellar execution so it'd have to have had a character or two that really grabbed my interest to make me return and sadly the two least interesting SFIII characters combined with two super saiyan shoto clones really doesn't tickle my fancy.

If they announce Rainbow Mika and/or Karin I might reconsider though :o
  • Ryze #50 1 year ago

No chance I'm buying another copy of this... but the article is vague.

Does this mean that there's an Arcade cabinet being released in the UK, or another retail rehash of the console game?

  • Phishfood #51 1 year ago

This would have been very expensive DLC for Capcom to implement mainly because whether you buy it or not everyone who plays SSF4 will need a mandatory update with the new changes when they fight someone online who did pay for the DLC.

I'm sure Microsoft would have charged Capcom a hefty sum to get that done, so in the end its cheaper to release the Arcade Edition. Can't say I'll be buying it because they changed my main Zangief way too much in SSF4 that I didn't feel like playing anymore.
  • Der_tolle_Emil #52 1 year ago

@Geminosity: I agree. I really enjoy Street Fighter IV but it is a bit too hardcore for me. Actually I quite like games where you can improve constantly but I just don't have enough time for this (or rather invest it in other games like StarCraft 2). I only play against the CPU anyway and I haven't even touched some of the original cast so there is still a lot of life left in SSFIV, which I did get. I'm just not sure if I will get a new one because I have only experienced about a third of what SSFIV has to offer. On top of that the more "strategic" approach of Marvel vs. Capcom suits me better at the moment as well and I don't think I will have enough of MvC anytime soon.
  • Rens11 #53 1 year ago

I've bought the last 2 and am tempted to get the 3ds version but I am not getting the same game for the 3rd time on ps3
