Hudson cancels planned 3DS titles

Bomberman, Bonk, Omega 5 not happening.

Veteran Japanese developer Hudson has canceled three of its announced 3DS projects, according to the latest edition of Famitsu magazine.

Siliconera's translation tells us that Bomberman, Omega Five and Bonk are no longer in development.

No reason is given, but it could well be as a result of Hudson being taken over by Konami earlier this year, with the subsequent closure of its US arm.

Could the 3DS be the first game console in the history of mankind not to host a Bomberman game? Extraordinary scenes.

The same Famitsu article also revealed that Konami has canned two unannounced Wii RPGs, Bonk: Brink of Extinction for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, Bass Fishing Life for PlayStation 3, Deca Sports 4 for Wii and another PlayStation 3 Bomberman game.

More disappointed about the canned Wii RPGs, myself. That said, they'd probably not get western releases. Despite the Wii architecture being ideal for ex-PS2 devs to move their RPGs over, the Wii has been very disappointing from an RPG lover's perspective. Sigh.

Bomberman bonks omega 5? That's a bit rude!

Natsume made Omega 5....is that part of Hudson?

Anyway, that game is better than forgotten worlds ever was, if this is true it's actually a bit of a shame, bomberman and bonk are definitely nostalgia for a lot of people too :o(

I finished a shadows tale around the time the konami news was coming out, and i did think to myself it's possibly the end of a long and really good era...the cross eyed bumblebee is probably no more. I think the same will be true of Irem soon.

Bonk,or BC Kid as he was called over here, was a mad as a bag of spiders platformer with a great bit of charm about it. Shame to see its gone the way of the dinosaurs...*cough*

I hate to see Hudson disassembled like this. Such a loss to the industry...

    Bonk: Brink of extinction.

Is this some kind of sex simulation game, in a world where human populations are critically low?

"Could the 3DS be the first game console in the history of mankind not to host a Bomberman game?" nah. Not if you include the download shop, I bet.

Hudson: That's it man, game over man, game over! What the fuck are we gonna do now? What are we gonna do?

Bomberman will end up on the 3DS in 3D. Maybe not for a while now, but it is going to happen. Just like there'll be Worms, Fifa, NBA, Madden, PGA Tour, Tetris, Harry Potter, Board game collections (Monopoly/Cluedo etc.), Classic card game collections, Sonic the Hedgehog, Pac Man and other Namco/Midway classic arcade collections.

I'd also have mentioned Monkey Ball, Rayman, Splinter Cell, Dead or Alive and Puzzle Bobble but they're already out for it.

Incidentally, these titles will all also all be available on the NGP and next Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo home consoles.

    They are the multi-platform inevitables

Did Konami buy Hudson just to can Hudson's IP? I have a mind to set King Bombi on them.

What, Hudson was taken over by Konami? This is the first time I am hearing this. No idea how I missed that news.

Anyway, there have been tons of Bomberman titles anyway although I'd like to see one reminiscent of Bomberman 64. The single player was very different but a lot of fun. I could use another Bomberman game like this.

    Bomberman canned?.... geeez!!!

Not surprised though, it has been a severely mismanaged franchise for years. They are sitting on gold and refuse to look down.

    Ouch!

Hudson have listed on their site my personal killer application for 3DS:

    [link url=http://www.hudsonentertainment.com/games/detail/Nikolis-Pencil-Puzzle#
    ]http://www.hudsonentertainment.com/games...[/link]

(it should probably be subtitled for EG readers: "from the makers of Slitherlink"....)
I've preordered the console today, hope that doesn't get cancelled too.

Gutted. I've never played a Bonk game (but used to think they looked cool back when I saw them in C&VG) and was really looking forward to the new one. This sort of thing happens too often; buy companies up, close down their projects.

Still, I'd be amazed if we see an end to Bomberman. Surely there's some sort of law that ensures all gaming formats must have a Bomberman game available!

The rumours of Bomberman's death are vastly exaggerated. He shall return!

Cancelled has two 'l's, unless we've finally been bought out by the USA.
