Prey 2 inspired by Mirror's Edge
No multiplayer.
The first Prey 2 gameplay details have hit the internet.
The first-person shooter is inspired by DICE's splendid Mirror's Edge, according to a preview in Gamereactor magazine (translated by forum poster Manager on NeoGAF).
Also influencing the 2012 game are Mass Effect, Riddick and Blade Runner.
The main character, Killian Samuels, is a sheriff and prison guard. He is nimble, and can perform Parkour moves.
"If the first Prey was the Luke Skywalker version of the story, Prey 2 is Bobba Fett's story," said the game's producer at developer Human Head.
Gameplay revolves around using wide-open spaces and shadows to sneak up on enemies. The structure is described as "open".
The game will not feature multiplayer and will not support 3D, Kinect or PlayStation Move. "Who would pick the multiplayer mode of Prey 2 ahead of the one in, for example, Halo Reach?" explained the game's producer. "We'd rather do a really good single-player adventure."
Importantly, the "vag portals" from Prey 1 return.
As revealed last week, Prey 2 does use id Tech but doesn't use id Tech 5. Bethesda was announced as the publisher of Prey 2 with a press release that said the game was "being built on the cutting edge id Tech engine from id Software".

Who thought his was a good idea? Feck off, if I want Splinter Cell I'll play Splinter Cell. In Prey I want to shoot bad guys up the ass. Through a portal.

This makes me inordinately happy. It really does.
I wonder if devs are starting to feel it's a poor use of money and resource to try and compete with COD and Halo on the multi side of things and instead are realising it's no bad thing to invest in creating strong single player shooter experiences.
As someone who politely ignores the multiplayer in more or less every game I play, I certainly hope so.

It's an interesting progression from regular run/jump/crouch control.
