Dragon Quest IX best-selling DQ ever

DS role-playing game Dragon Quest IX is the best-selling Dragon Quest game ever, Square Enix has announced.

The game had shipped more than 5.3 million units worldwide as of December last year, Andriasang reports.

It is the first game in the illustrious series to sell more than five million copies. The series as a whole has shipped more than 57 million units.

Last year producer Ryutaro Ichimura revealed the game was inspired by Bethesda's Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion and Blizzard's Diablo.

"We have no recognition that Dragon Quest IX is a part of the so-called JRPG genre, unless you mean all the RPGs created in Japan are JRPGs," he said.

Simon Parkin turned up a 9/10 in Eurogamer's Dragon Quest IX review, saying, "Dragon Quest IX cleanses the palate with its straightforwardness, allowing the workmanship to shine, and its clutch of nested fairytales to inspire."

    Good news, I just got through DQ9 yesterday and had a tremendous time. Not played any of the others, but I'm quite tempted to revisit some of them now.

    Wonder if DQX will be moved to the 3DS. It's odd how aboslutely nothing has been shown of the Wii version despite it being over 2 years since it was announced.

    Monster Hunter Selling 1/4 of what the series sells on the PSP must've been worrying for Squeenix.

    Been playing this again recently after a long hiatus. It is indeed very good, but certainly not a patch on the almighty DQVIII.

    Yes yes yes yes yes!

    130 hours in, admittedly i havnt picked it up in a while. but i still havnt beat the final boss. decided to grind the levels up a bit.

    As RPGs go, i dont think ive spent this long on once since FF7. Definitely up there with my all time favourites.

    It was recently confirmed that it's still a Wii game. The reason we haven't heard anything about it is because it was never officially announced. Yuji Horii just blurted it out during a DQIX event.

    Wouldnt mind if DQX was switched over to 3DS. DQ9 was awesome!

    I only played 3 DQ games, DQ5, DQ8 and DQ9. But out of these 3, DQ9 is easily the worst with it's relatively uninteresting story and party members with zero personality. DQ5 and DQ8 are brilliant, though :)
