Resident Evil Director's Cut hits EU PSN

Out next week.

Cult classic PSone game Resident Evil Director's Cut will hit the European PlayStation Store on the 23rd March, Capcom has confirmed to Eurogamer.

It costs €9.99 / £7.99.

The game has been available to download from the US PlayStation Store for over a year.

The Director's Cut is the updated version of Resident Evil, first released in September 1997.

It includes an arranged version of the game that changes the location of nearly every vital item in Resident Evil's famous zombie-filled mansion.

The main characters wear different clothes and there's an improved handgun.

There's also a beginner mode, which makes the enemies easier to kill and doubles the amount of ammunition available to find.

In March 2009 Matt Edwards took a trip down memory lane with Eurogamer's Resident Evil series retrospective.

That gallery shows REbirth though...So is it the REbirth or the DC?

Is this the PS1 version or the GameCube version? Article says one thing and the pictures show another. I would much rather have the GC version.

How about an HD collection of 1-4?
  • el_pollo_diablo #5 1 year ago

I think this might be one of those games that lives on better as a memory.
  • captain_Carl #6 1 year ago

It'll be the PSOne version... Like they always are

I thought it was out today, from what they said on the blog last week.

Chris has certainly been overdoing the steroids since his first outing.

Looong time after US and Japan's Store.. As they say better late than never eh?!

Glad I got US account and purchased many titles, as I m pretty impatient!
  • graz68 #11 1 year ago

    £7.99, fuck that.

Bought from US PSN over a year ago at a much better price with full screen, full speed and none of that slow as shit, letterboxed rubbish of the lazily ported EU version.

    RE2 you slow crackpots!

Alas it's not the GameCube's shiny REmake version - the PSone Director's Cut dates from five years before before (as the new picture above clearly shows).

Never finished this, would be tempted but £7.99? Jogon.com

Would rather have RE2 or 3 anyway

It's another one off the long overdue PS1 games list, but I won't be happy until they get to Wild Arms.

Fuck that shit, let's get an HD resi 4 with decent move support. (the move patch for 5 was arse)

Which version of the Director's Cut is this? There were two, with the second Director's Cut release which added Dual Shock support and replaced all the music with a new score. Personally I much prefer the non-Dual Shock version as I like the original music much better (the end credits music, Still Dawn, is really awesome), and who needs analogue control with the tank controls anyway? :)
  • graz68 #19 1 year ago

If its like the american one, it will be the dual shock edition
  • Machetazo #20 1 year ago

+1@ photoboy: Saturn/original or GTFO. Change the score? Are you kidding me...what a joke! :(

"Alas it's not the GameCube's shiny REmake version - the PSone Director's Cut dates from five years before before (as the new picture above clearly shows). "

EG replaced the pictures - seems like they are correct now and not the GC version as before.

"Which version of the Director's Cut is this? "

    There's are two RE:DCs? Crazy... :)

They are both called RE:DC or are there any way to spot the difference on the cover?

Items are in the same place as on the origional Resi Evil, what happens is that the green lizard creatures come earlier on in the game and they are a bit faster.

I actually have the origional disc here beside me from all those years ago, has a second disc with it which is a demo of Resi 2. Wish they would do the Tenchu series on PSN, loved those games.

@Tinyspark "Fuck that shit, let's get an HD resi 4 with decent move support. (the move patch for 5 was arse) "

Resident Evil 5 was ARSE full stop. - biggest let down this gen for me.

Remaster Resi4 in HD and release for £20 you have a sale.

The arrange mode shuffles everything around in the most sadistic way imaginable, its a quite different challenge to the original mode even though there's nothing actually new there.

Its a lot harder than the original RE.

@Pollo-diablo, I agree. One of the best games ever but should be kept in memory, those that are gonna get it, enjoy.
  • JamieR #27 1 year ago

It said directors cut so will be the later ps1 version that had more zombies
  • Bleemo #28 1 year ago

I got the Remake of Resident Evil for my Wii and it was brilliant. With better graphics and a new plot (Lisa trevor) it's probably worth a punt over this one to be honest (I own Wii and PS3 not a fanboy moment).

"@ Pollo-diablo, I agree. One of the best games ever but should be kept in memory, those that are gonna get it, enjoy. "

I agree I picked up MGS on PSN and genuinely found it unplayable after the more modern games and Splinter cell. Some games just don't age well. Half Life on the other hand.

Resident Evil has actually aged pretty well due to the pre-rendered backgrounds. Not sure why it's being referred to as a 'cult' classic in the article, the franchise was and still is huge.

I think my brother still has the pre-Director's Cut version.

I've still got the original UK Director's Cut. As a previous poster mentioned, it also contained a demo of Resident Evil 2, which contained a couple of interesting differences to the finished game, the most obvious being a piece of music which, as I say, I'm pretty sure wasn't in the full game of Resident Evil 2. It should be pointed out for anybody who doesn't know or doesn't remember, that as well as the new mode and the beginner mode, the Directors Cut also features the original version.

I don't think the Dual Shock version of this ever came out in the UK. More than happy to be corrected though.

I wonder if we'll get the colour intro for the PS3 release. Probably not.

Do PSone games work on the newest PS3s? I can't remember what the situation is with that.

Got this aaages ago for less off EBay...even then I couldn't play it cos it had aged so badly. The attrocious voice acting is the best thing now!
