Jagex reveals online Transformers game

TranScape?

Jagex, maker of extremely popular browser MMO RuneScape, is making a Transformers game.

Hasbro has given the nod, and Jagex hopes to release an online Transformers world in 2012.

Talkative Jagex CEO Mark Gerhard said there was "huge appetite" for a Transformers online game, and that his concoction of "dynamic" and "action-packed" gameplay will be "irresistible".

Last summer, Jagex told Eurogamer there was a third MMO in development besides upcoming sci-fi bonanza Stellar Dawn and RuneScape. Transformers, we presume, was it.

Through RuneScape (and casual portal FunOrb), Jagex does serious business - employing 450 people and describing itself as a "serious competitor" to Blizzard and World of Warcraft. RuneScape, a free-to-play MMO, has over 10 million active accounts and 140 million registered accounts.

This is RuneScape.

Thought it might be called `Tranniescape - men in disguise`

I know Stellar Dawn is supposed to be a reboot of the MechScape project, but I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of the MechScape assets were put towards this, rather than wasting them.

This could actually be pretty darn cool.

Would like to know more, but if it's f2p (or at least some of it) then it wouldn't hurt to try.

You may think it to be shit DDevil but it makes a bucketload of money for them. One of the most successful UK Dev/Publisher teams.

I thought Activision held the rights to Transformers games?

I hope to god it isn't set in the movies-verse. The design is terrible. IDW's take on G1 would be a good compromise.

Argumentum ad populum. Just because a lot of people like it doesn't mean its good/smart/worth your time.

I've never played RuneScape so I don't understand everyone is throwing so much hate at it. If it has 10 million active accounts it can't be that bad?
  • gypsyr0ad #13 1 year ago

10 million active accounts is a misleading number, its more like 1 million and 1/3 of those are bots, and the rest are multiple accounts made by the same players, I would assume there is roughly 700-900 thousand actual active real players currently
When Jagex reinstated free trade, there is roughly 150 gold farming bots on every single server.
The vote they had to reinstate free trade only gathered 1 million votes.
If they had 10 million active players why does the vote not show that?
Free trade in the game is a huge issue, 9 million people didnt vote on one of the biggest issues on the game they play?
    I doubt that very much.

The game is only popular to kids who's parents pay the membership fees and if Jagex continues their trend of failed customer support, their next game will not take off.
Most of runescapes current active long term players are slowly quitting due to the way Jagex treats its customers.
Jagex directly lies to its customers and fails at every promise they make, which is why they put free trade back in, in attempts to bring back the players that quit.
It currently is back firing on the game as RWT and bots have completely taken over and are slowly ruining the games economy and Jagex is doing nothing to combat against the bot issues.

I personally will never pay them a dime again nor trust any game they introduce, all your hard work and time is taken away by their failed updates and lack of concern for its players.
Currently they appear to be accepting bots and gold farmers back into the game because that is extra money in membership fees, regardless of the fact its ruining the game play for its real players.
