Rumour: NGP to launch in Europe this year

Development deadlines set.

Sony's Next Generation Portable will launch in Europe this year, according to fresh reports.

Rumours floating around claim an exact release date: 11th November 2011.

Sources told MCV that development deadlines have been set to ensure key Western releases are finished before the end of the summer for deployment in the autumn.

Sony's current stance is that its PlayStation Portable successor will begin "rolling out" this year – suggesting Europe may not see the powerful handheld until 2012.

"It's very difficult to have the quantities to be able to launch on a worldwide basis on the same date," SCEA boss Jack Tretton said.

"Our goal is get at least one territory out by the end of holiday 2011."

NGP is still without an official name and price, but Sony insists it'll be affordable.
