We Dare will not launch in the UK
Decision made "following public reaction".
Ubisoft has bowed to mainstream pressure and decided not to release controversial Wii and PlayStation 3 game We Dare in the UK.
It had been slated for release this Friday.
"Following the public reaction to the 12+ rating of We Dare, Ubisoft has made the decision not to sell the game in the United Kingdom," Ubisoft said in a statement issued this evening to The Daily Telegraph.
We Dare, which Ubisoft has maintained was designed for and marketed at adults, asks players to use the Wii Remote to virtually spank each other as they complete "flirtatious" mini-games.
"Use the Wii-mote and PS3 Move controller in unbelievable ways, as you've never imagined before... wave it around to the beat of your favourite tunes, old and new... put it in your pocket and act-out flirtatious actions..." reads the product description.
"Sometimes co-operative hugging helps, and it certainly doesn't hurt.
"And there's more! You can also use your Wii Balance Board for additional gameplay based on pure body mass... are you the lightest one in the group? Perhaps shedding some clothes will even the playing field... it'll definitely make the party more interesting!"
The game sparked a mainstream media outcry after PEGI awarded it a 12+ age rating – which it insists was appropriate for the content.
The game will still launch in Europe.

While most of you guys will see this as a "so what" story, this game getting shelved is important. It shows that the UK is still not mature enough to accept a game that flirts with a bit of sexuality, no matter how silly it might seem (or how fun it might be as a game).
We live in a really conservative society when it comes to sex, and while this might seem like stupid to most of you to me it means that the UK still sees games as toys for kids.

Possible if it were a Wii exclusive, but they also yanked the PS3 version. No way in hell Nintendo has that much influence on a third party.

This 'public outcry' are probly those people who treat Jermery Kyle (sp?) as Jim-il-fix-it or some group of OAPs who think mags like Men's health should be treated like porn (it has happened where I live). To them Wii is ONLY for the under 10s (and the elctronic babysitter) and this is 'DA EVIL' to them 'THINK OF THE CHILDREN PPL!!!!.
We aren't all like that it's just those few who 'RAGE' over the fact Ann Robinson smiled and HAVE to 'make things right' by constantly going on and on about it - come on theres worse things in the world they should be trying to 'change' then this.

'The game will still launch in Europe.'
And the UK is part of which continent now?

Also, this highlights the problem of having a Europe-wide ratings agency. As much as I would love Britain to be as relaxed about nipples as our continental cousins are, I don't think gaming is going to be the medium to make that happen.
