PlayStation Network down all evening

Sign in before 4pm to play online.

Sony will take the European PlayStation Network down today from 4.05pm UK time through to 3am tomorrow morning.

You won't be able to access the PlayStation Store on either PS3 or PSP, nor any of the account management or registration areas.

If you want to be able to play online during that time then make sure you sign in before 4.05pm.

There's no word on what the maintenance is specifically for, nor whether today's Store update will be affected.

If PSN Store is not accessible then what the hell any good is today weekly updates?! May as well offically move it to tomorrow?!
  • spiritsnake #2 1 year ago

i bet its got to do with that homebrew going round that enables ps3's on firmware lower than 3.55 to be able to go online and also the homebrew enables banned consoles to get back online and have full access to play online. i think its called f***PSN weird name!!
  • Dizzy #3 1 year ago

Couldn't they do this at an hour when nobody plays?
  • PixelPirate #4 1 year ago

    @Dizzy

I believe they are, because its the US team that handle the PSN, so they take it down when us Europeans want to use it instead of the Americans... couldn't inconvenience them at all. *sigh*
  • NotSoSlim #5 1 year ago

    New firmware update soon then

Grr, just started to get into the Killzone 3 Multiplayer and I won't be able to play it tonight :(

    >PSN is managed in Japan.

And they don't have servers in Europe? I doubt that. How hard would it be to patch the servers according to their region? MS can do it. Blizzard can do it.
  • captain_Carl #9 1 year ago

It's always done at a time which is more convenient to Japan. And usually shit for us
  • midnight_walker #10 1 year ago

What the shit? It's FINALLY Back To The Future week and they're taking the store down?! Why must they punish us like this? :'(
  • Whatsfor #11 1 year ago

It's funny they do this at a time when it will piss off their most popular territory... Or maybe they know that the Americans will piss and whine more then us Europeans?

I dont mind them doing it on europeaon time im not so addicted that i cant take an evening of just single player gaming, but why on earth choose store update day, unless this is really critical and to do with piracy as some have suggested.
  • RockTwist #13 1 year ago

On the day the Mortal Kombat demo is up too, nice timing.

Taking the PSN down not long after the store updates is really dumb. It would be fine if the store reliably updated at 1pm like it used to, but in recent months it hasn't updated until 3, 4 or even 5pm so depending how "switched on" the guys are PSN HQ are today the store may not actually update at all until it comes back in the wee hours of tomorrow morning.

The saddest part about these patches is that it's the only thing that Sony applies globally while everything else from release dates to content to pricing is set regionally. Please either patch regionally or make the PSN (and SCE in general) truly global, this bizarre mix-match of behaviours is only consistent in that Europe gets the shitty end of the stick in all cases despite being the biggest market of your wares. Get it together Sony.

What a bunch of muppets!! Do it while we are asleep. Wanted to play some FIFA tonight & get the lastest squad updates. Sony Japan ftw .... everybody else tough shit!!
  • CaptainQuint #16 1 year ago

Oh well, back to Halo for me tonight.
  • Beano #17 1 year ago

Why take PSN Store down for maintenance on a wednesday where the EU Store usually is updated?

    Idiots.
  • Beano #18 1 year ago

"Grr, just started to get into the Killzone 3 Multiplayer and I won't be able to play it tonight :( "

As long as you are signed in before 5 PM, you should still be able to play KZ3 online. "Only" sign-in and PSN Store is affected.
  • slippysloppy #19 1 year ago

Why do it before anyone has a chance to get home from work? Even the kids won't have much of a chance to log on after school. Agree with @Dizzy, if it's a Euro update why not do it when nobody plays?

That's my planned night of DC Universe ruined, back to the Xbox for some COD.

I've only had my PS3 for two and a half weeks and already I'm finding the online side of things a fucking joke. Constantly signing me out, iPlayer crashing frequently, hiked up PSN store prices compared to XBLA and now this.

These are the horrors we in the privileged parts of the world have to put up with. A damn travesty let me tell you.

Often the actual PSN maintenance downtime is shorter than the annonced - so I recommend people to try again later in the evening.

@kinky_mong : Are you using wireless networking? If you are, try to use wire LAN if possible since wireless on PS3 is crap for many. I use wired LAN and is never signed out (ok, maybe 2-3 times in 3 years) and performance is great.

I Hope they can update the PS Store today and I can quickly get on there, I've been waiting for the ACB DLC for about a month now...
  • Zimo #25 1 year ago

Store update is a 1pm, PsPlus at noon
  • the_dudefather #26 1 year ago

They shouldn't do this when it inconveniences me, they should do it when it inconveniences someone else
  • kinky_mong #27 1 year ago

@Beano: A wired connection isn't really an option I'm afraid, would requiring trailing a long lead up stairs and across a hallway. It's just baffling how my 360, Wii and PS3 are all in close proximity of each other yet the first two never drop their connection.
  • KRadiation #28 1 year ago

Just so people can read the full post - they have mentioned the store update for today.

"In light of this maintenance, The Store will update at 1pm today. PS Plus content is being uploaded at noon, with a couple of extra little bits."

  • FuzzyDuck #29 1 year ago

A quality service i don't actually pay for is down for maintenance but will be back up and running within 24 hours?

I wish the real world worked like this!
  • Mnia786 #30 1 year ago

blame the cunts that so ironically use the "fuck psn" hack to get back online.
if you want "hombrew", stay the fuck off psn and go enjoy your "backups" some place else.
  • homerramone #31 1 year ago

Maybe this is instead of a game ?
    ;-)
  • Beano #32 1 year ago

@kinky_mong : I assume the PS3 wifi antenna is simple not good enough - but you are not the only one with this problem. Try to do a speed test from the PS3 web browser, and you should see fluxuating speeds.
  • slippysloppy #33 1 year ago

@FuzzyDuck A fair comment but I am paying for DC Online, which is a little frustrating.
  • Collymilad #34 1 year ago

"These are the horrors we in the privileged parts of the world have to put up with. A damn travesty let me tell you. "

Shouldn't you be in Africa doing something?
  • FuzzyDuck #35 1 year ago

    @slippysloppy

I'd imagine it is frustrating not being able to access paid-for content.

You'd think that they'd rotate the downtimes between the continents?
  • MDL199 #36 1 year ago

There's nothing wrong with the ps3 wifi connection. My routers in the furthest away room in the house from my ps3 and yet my connection strength never goes lower than 85%.

If wireless isn't working and wired is not an option then use homeplugs.
  • ilikePS3andXbox360OK #37 1 year ago

What Hotz WAS doing was illegal so PS3 DID have the rights to sue and restrain him so the 'Annomous' hackers cant say its there way to get back for unnecessery punishment
