New Silent Hill movie starts shooting

X-Men Origins star takes lead.

A sequel to 2006's Silent Hill movie started shooting in Toronto today, producer Davis Films has announced.

Silent Hill: Revelation 3D will star X-Men Origins: Wolverine alumnus Adelaide Clemens as lead Heather Mason, alongside Kit Harington, who you'll soon see in HBO's adaptation of fantasy epic Game of Thrones.

Solomon Kane director Michael J. Bassett takes over the director's chair from original helmer Christopher Gans, with Resident Evil: Afterlife cheque-writers Samuel Hadida and Don Carmody serving as producers.

According to the marketing blurb, here's how you can expect the plot to pan out:

"For years, Heather Mason (Clemens) and her father have been on the run, always one step ahead of dangerous forces that she doesn't fully understand.

"Now on the eve of her 18th birthday, plagued by terrifying nightmares and the disappearance of her father, Heather discovers she's not who she thinks she is. The revelation leads her deeper into a demonic world that threatens to trap her in Silent Hill forever."

There's no word yet on when it will be hitting cinemas/DVD bins. You'll just have to make do with the image below for now, offering a glimpse of Clemens in action.

The next game in Konami's survival horror series, Silent Hill: Downpour, is due on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 later this year.

Well it sounds exactly like Silent Hill 3 so hopefully they can make a half-decent film at least. I have fairly good hope for it.

The original was the best game to movie adaptation ever made by a country mile. A shame Christophe Gans isn't directing this one, I was very impressed with the lengths he went to to convince Konami to hand the rights to him. He did a fantastic job with the film, the only reservation I had was the shoe-horning of Pyramid Head. Also, Sean Bean deserved a bigger role. Can never never have too much Sean Bean!

Expected the sequel to carry on from the original with Bean perhaps playing a more centralized role but I guess they've decided to take the series in a different direction. The original combined many of the games storylines and characters but I suppose they want this one to focus on one storyline. I know many people have a soft spot for Silent Hill 2, as do I, but I personally found SH3 to be the most terrfying of the lot. It also helped that it was a direct sequel to the brilliant original. Hopefully this film can do it justice.

My only fear is that they'll get drunk off the success of the movies ala Resident Evil and make countless sequels that just mow the whole series into the ground. The first Resi movie was faithful to the games and had a decent cast and story to go with it. The sequel was average but it felt like The Dark Knight when compared to the atrocious sequels that followed. Here's hoping Konami don't ruin their baby on the big screen like Capcom did theirs.

I liked the first one a lot. But i don't like how everything has to be 3D now these days.

    Fucking hate 3D in films.

Yep an adaption of the SH 3 game...which was excellent.
    Good news.
I was hoping the same director would be on board however,as apart from the first 10 mins of the first one, ( that little girls acting was abysmal ) the film was great....

I'll see it as there's not near enough 15-18s rated horror that isn't torture-porn these days. But I can't help but think that the budget on this must be quite low with no stars of any note attached to it (I'm not counting Adelaide Clemens, despite her pivotal role as "Carnival Girl" in Wolverine).

Hopefully Michael J. Bassett can pull it out of the bag as he has style by the bucketload in his other films.

Oh, this is so not gonna suck. I mean, look at the title: The "3D" at the end is the detail that spells "No sir, this is not a crappy cashcow we're bringing up because we need some quick heroin cash". I'm so excited I could take a nap!

Sean Bean is currently in negotiations to appear in Revelations, possibly as Harry Mason...

It caused a bit of confusion at first seeing as Sean played Christopher Da Silva in the original, but fans are speculating that the name change would fit in with the fact Harry and Heather have been on the run from the cult in Silent Hill. But that still leaves incongruities that need to be cleared up because of how the original movie ended.

Anyway, I'm stoked that filming is underway, and Adelaide looks absolutely fucking awesome as Heather. Can't wait to see it.

I absolutely LOVE the first film so I'm very excited about this. Hopefully it doesn't disappoint!

The original Silent Hill movie was the most authentic video game adaptation to date sure. It had the look, plot type and vibe of the games pretty much down verbatim, but that was also where it fell down. It was just like like watching a massive cut scene from a game and simply went to illustrate that games should never be made into films and, in most cases, visa versa.

I liked the first film, went to the cinema etc and found it the most accurate adaptation of a videogame so far. With people on board fromn the resi films I have a feeling this will become watered down and a piece of shit

    I hope I'm wrong

Is that picture from X-Men Wolverine or the SH2 film? Cause she needs a lot more emo eyeshadow to play Heather...

First movie was great, really. I was hoping this one would focus on following SH3's plot, and it's good to see that happened. Though considering the first was one of the bad endings from SH1 (stuck in the mist world), I'm not really sure the continuity makes sense.

I also hope they include the "they looked like monsters to you?" line. Haha, best mindfuck in a video game I can think of.

And yeah, the 3D in the title sounds pretty tacky.

Not keeping Christopher Gans on to direct was a mistake in my opinion, I loved his vision for the original film (his previous work on Brotherhood of the Wolf was also incredible).

I'm still trying to keep hope that this film will turn out good, please please please... :)

    Damn straight!

Oh man, I hoped for Gans so much. I don't think anyone can do such a good job as he did with the first movie.
  • bad09 #16 1 year ago

Does anyone else automatically switch off on Hollywood as soon as 3D is mentioned? Still I'll have a look when it hits blu (not in 3"shut the hell up about your already flagging gimmick"D) as the first was cool.
  • space_ace #17 1 year ago

The best game adaptation was "Yakuza", directed by Takashi Miike...
  • 5h1nj1 #18 1 year ago

Lol, Miike's Yakuza was bad. :D But really fun to watch. I'm not really sure how much of that fun was intended though.
  • Zebula77 #19 1 year ago

Sounds like SH 3 alright. Not necessarily a bad thing at all, tho it baffles me that they haven't tried to adapt the second game's story instead (arguably one of the best videogame stories ever).

I hope they follow the lines of the first movie, which I think captured a lot of the atmosphere, loneliness and isolation of the games. Plus, it actually had two-three really creepy horror sequences - a rarity these days.
  • sega #20 1 year ago

I don't like the first film at all really - was pretty disappointed. I didn't understand why the focus wasn't on Harry Mason and focused on some woman in his place. The same with Resident Evil ditching Chris for "Alice" - are they just trying to appeal to teenage boys by replacing the lead with a hot woman or something?

Actually, they'll probably reverse the trend now by re-casting Lara Croft as a man.
  • Canyarion #21 1 year ago

All I read here was "Game of Thrones" and "soon."

    !!!!!

Edit: speaking of which: the new book, A Dance With Dragons, finally has a release date! July 12, 2011. Call me excited.

    /sigh

I really hope they can capture the atmosphere like Gans did. For any faults with that film, the presentation was bang on the mark.
